Jorge and I we're discussing in private PMs about the lack of an IRC channel. He gave me the rundown about why it's the way it is. But I happen to be an acquaintance of the owner of the Irondust/IRCnode IRC network and I believe that I might be able to set up a new official IRC channel for the dungeon, Jorge supports the idea but I would like to hear the public's opinion first.
-
I had the honor of being banned from the IRC chat on several occasions when it was still active. So yes, it should be brought back ;)
-
Whatevs, I'm down.
-
You have my axe!
-
Sure no problem.
But pardon my ignorance, is there a free app for chatting on ios devices?
-
There was one, few came, it got Ol Yellered, the end.
*bans crisis from IRC again* ;)
-
sounds great, i'll be there ;D
-
RedRum-sama *hugs*
-
I suppose it wouldn't hurt, as long as we still get traffic here in the Dungeon!
-
This poll will be up until mid-february, at which point a decision will be made about whether one should be started again.
-
Goddangit, how did this get back here? Well I'm bumping this poll because this thing seriously needs to be temp-stickied. at least until the specified date, at which point a decision will be made regarding the IRC. So far it seems that most people support a resurrected IRC channel.
-
It seems so.
We will see when the end of the poll comes.
-
I will join this surely.
-
i want parts of this.. its almost mid feb so whats the verdict???
-
@son_the_vampire: We will come to a conclusion on the eighteenth and not a day before. besides, the eighteenth is just four more days away.
-
I don't get it. What is it about the IRC thing? :|
-
It's pretty much "The Castlevania Dungeon Live!"
-
You talk about butts in there.
-
It's pretty much "The Castlevania Dungeon Live!"
Oh, i get it. But what is it for?
-
butt talking.
What else would we talk about?
-
Oooh, i get it. It's more or less like a shoutbox, right? Yeah, it's great!
I think it's a great idea! I noticed the forums don't have any shoutboxes... :/
I agree it. ^^
-
Umm... yeah I guess it is like a shoutbox.
But no, it would not be part of the forum. It would be on a separate page (on a browser) or you would need a program (if on a computer) or an app (if on a phone) to access it.
I thought about adding an actual shoutbox, but then that would also need moderating and I think it would cut down on discussions in the forum.

Yeah... I know what you mean. I think it quite seems like Chatzy, then.
-
Looks like we're gonna do the IRC thing again.
Stay tuned for more news.
-
My apologies everyone, I will get on setting up the IRC Channel.
Edit: #cvdungeon on irc.ircnode.org is live! We are currently looking for potential channel operators, if you're interested please PM Jorge D. Fuentes
-
I may have oversimplified things a bit, so I'm going to have to ask those who are interested in irc moderating to state their qualifications in their PMs to poor ol' Jorge and me and their reasons as to why they think they would be a good IRC moderator. We will be deciding who will be an irc moderator based on their qualifications, their overall maturity in the community and their reasons.
-
irc.ircnode.org
Forgive my ignorance, but how does one access the page? I entered the link but no idea what to do next. Tried to access once and then was for some reason forbidden. Are you supposed to download anything, sign up, any of that crap?
-
@mooning freddy: What Internet browser are you using? if you're using chrome it should send you to a barebones IRC interface with a name input screen.
-

Firefox.
It did. I tried to enter the channel #cvdungeon and a random name then it friggin blocked me. Am I supposed to enter any specific name to access the chat?
-
No.... Strange, I'll have a word with the administrators. First of all what is your IP address? I think you might be a victim of a ranged ban against someone else.
-
I've just tried it and it worked fine for me. I'm also using the latest firefox version.
-
You should try mIRC Freddy, it's basic but very functional. If it doesn't work at least you know it's not a problem with your browser or the browser client just being wonky.
http://www.mirc.com/ (http://www.mirc.com/)
-
I can confirm that the IRC works well on Chrome. Never used any IRC before. Extremely easy to use and I feel foolish for never messing with them earlier.
-
I, myself, would recommend against one, but I view the whole thing from a different perspective than most (the perspective of a forum admin). Things like that are too difficult to moderate (I guarantee you people will be doing stuff in there you don't want them to) and will eat into your forum activity. There's a good chance your regulars will use that as their main medium of interacting, which, in the long run, will likely not help the forum. Perhaps the most harmful thing that can happen is that it may create a rift between members and open up room for a lot drama.
Just adding my own 2 cents, which, a lot of is from experience. I don't really mind one way or the other whether one is added, as I'm pretty sure I wouldn't use it. But beware, they sound like nice, happy, helpful things, but I actually would not have one, speaking from the perspective of someone who would have to manage the forum, and considering the 'big picture' of the well-being of the forum.
-
I'm alright with the idea, as I use mIRC often.
I've been browsing the forum just as much as I did prior; it hasn't drawn my attention elsewhere.
Chat rooms in general allow users get to know each other better due to how casual they are—private messages always seem awkward.

We had one for years, with little problems.
It died a few years back only 'cuz the server went kerplowie.
This is why I held it up to a vote and had this poll for over a month. It seems to me that having one doesn't really generate enough of a backlash to not have it.
The worst that can happen is that either it sucks or it's an unorganized mess. Likely though, it'll be just like other IRC channels: silent most of the time, with the occasional wave of activity.

Yeah that's the #1 thing for people new to IRC to remember (apart from common sense stuff that applies in most social situations like don't bring up politics/religion/racism etc.) the IRC should not be your primary source of engagement/entertainment. It's something to leave running in the background and occasionally check to see if an interesting conversation is going on. Because at least 70% of the time it'll be dead as a door nail.
-
Today I'm being blocked by the remote server on the IRC channel. Did it go kerblewie again or did I do something wrong?
-
I am on the case. One of the network's very own IRCcops is currently looking into this as we speak.
Edit: Here's a transcript of the conversation I had with the IRCcop concerning this issue:
[13:28:39] <FireSeraphim> Fudge, it seems that some peeps wishing to join #cvdungeon are having issues. I believe they may have fallen victim to some old ranged ban
[13:29:01] <FireSeraphim> allow me to link you to a forum topic where the grievance has been reported
[13:29:01] Fudge [Fudge@staff/Fudge] has just joined #cvdungeon
[13:29:01] Common channels for Fudge [Fudge@staff/Fudge]: #smbx, #cvdungeon, +#help
[13:29:23] <FireSeraphim> http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,5727.msg124897.html#new (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,5727.msg124897.html#new)
[13:31:54] <FireSeraphim> Fudge?
[13:31:55] <Fudge> You could clear the bans on that channel; /cs clear #cvdungeon bans
[13:32:04] <Fudge> I believe that would work, though I've never needed to use it
[13:32:29] <FireSeraphim> I think it's more than a mere channel ban since the channel itself is merely a day old
[13:32:42] <FireSeraphim> It might be a network ranged ban
[13:33:08] <FireSeraphim> although I will try your suggested command first and see if that generates results
[13:33:26] <Fudge> What ISP are the users connecting from?
[13:33:36] <Fudge> Or, even better, could I have IPs/hostnames?
[13:33:49] <Fudge> I can check to see if there's any ban affecting them, though it's unlikely.
[13:37:22] <Fudge> It could also be an issue with the client they're using
[13:37:42] <Fudge> If you can provide me with logs from their clients' console window, it would also help me
[13:38:01] <Fudge> Clients are disconnected straight away and a reason is displayed if they are banned
[13:38:15] <FireSeraphim> They're mostly using the standard barebones irc client that's available at irc.ircnode.net
[13:38:50] <Fudge> You mean the web client at http://chat.ircno.de (http://chat.ircno.de)
[13:38:51] <Fudge> ?
[13:39:01] <FireSeraphim> yes
[13:39:52] <Fudge> If you could tell the users that are having issues to pastebin what's in the status tab on that client and give it to me, I'd be able to see if there's an issue with actually connecting
[13:40:45] <FireSeraphim> I have already PM Phoenix7786 on the forums, I'm just waiting for him to reply (and yes he is on the forums right now)
[13:41:08] <Fudge> Sure, PM me when you have additional information and I'll look into this for you.
[13:41:19] <FireSeraphim> understood
In essence I cannot help you guys unless you help me by giving me some critical information.

Weird, I'll let the people in the chat know.
-
Found the problem, its http://irc.ircnode.NET (http://irc.ircnode.NET) and not http://irc.ircnode.ORG (http://irc.ircnode.ORG) like they said in some posts here. :p
-
i finally got on today!
-

Okay... Today the inverse happened, .NET gives a 403 error and .ORG works. They REALLY need to fix that, since not everyone will figure that automatically.
edit: Try http://chat.ircno.de (http://chat.ircno.de) and perhaps these bugs doesnt happen anymore, at least its working for now while .org is giving a 403 error and .net is showing a /index directory.

No, both are showing an Index directory saying "Hi", or stuff like that. The one you gave the last time seems to lead me into it, but how do i get in there?
Edit: Nvm, i made it already. Thanks for the link! ^__^

* @Lash wakes up to a four page thread on video game whores
<@Lash> ...That escalated quickly.
-
Hmm...when I try to log on using http://chat.ircno.de (http://chat.ircno.de) it tells me "Bad Password." x_x;; Whats goin on? Pardon my ignorance XD
-
Its because you dont use your forum password for login Gungun, just type a nick. After you logged in you can register that nick in the channel ;D
-
I did, I typed in my forum name, and just a random name and it still gave me "bad password." I'm using mibbit tho...
-
I logged in normally using MIRC and letting the password field in blank. also if you are using a IRC program you need to enter in irc.ircnode.net or irc.ircnode.org, chat.ircno.de is for people logging using chrome, its like a site. Try it, its plenty more easy xD
-
I'll try with mIRC tomorrow...it's been ages since I used it, I like mibbit T_T
EDIT: nevermind, orfmg you guys I got in!!!!
-
As the originator of the topic and the founder of the IRC channel, I wish to remind you all that this IRC channel still exists. @Jorge: could you be so kind as to sticky this topic. I fear the reason why people aren't coming there is precisely because they don't see this topic and therefore do not see the channel name and irc network name.
-
You should edit the first post and add a simple way to people access our IRC channel like "access http://ircnode.org/ (http://ircnode.org/) on your browser, then choose a nickname and put #cvdungeon on the channel field". I've tested it today and it still works, also this thread shouldnt be staked? So everyone could knew that tgus IRC channel exists.
-
Honestly, friend, I think the reason more people aren't showing up in IRC is cause that software's a little dated these days ;_; Do any of you guys have Skype? We could make a CVD chatroom on there :D Or maybe a castlevania chat on Steam, where people could ask to be added to the group :o
-
Sounds like a plan, I think that most people would like Skype (I prefer Steam because emoticons :3 ) because you can easily text using even a cellphone. But with Steam groups we can have moderators and even ban people if something bad happens, in brief we have control.
Since no one shared their skype with me nor in a thread, I thought that almost no one had skype :-/
-
Most people who want to share their Skype/Steam/etc. info will have it on their profile.
<---like here, on the left.
However, it doesn't have a field for Skype so that's a legitimate request.
Guess what my Skype ID would be? :P
