With all this time off most of us have these days, have any of you decided to finally complete any castlevania games that you’ve never got the chance to in the past?

I’m going to finish Castlevania 64. I’ve had it all these years, never really worked my way thru it from beginning to end. I might do Haunted Castle or Castlevania Chronicles next

I also never beat that boss rush dungeon area in Circle of the Moon. It always pissed me off back in the day  :(

i haven’t really gotten on a castlevania kick yet this quarentine.  i recently had a street fighter kick and just started a zelda kick.  i’m sure i’ll get to castlevania.  but you’re right, there are a few loose ends that i should consider tying up.  there’s a couple games where i’ve basically gotten super close to the end but never went for the final push to beat Dracula (Ecclesia, Adventure ReBirth).  there’s a few i could make a good amount of progress on (Haunted Castle, Harmony of Despair).  i’ll probably end up picking up Bloodstained again when i get the vania urge though.

Assuming this quarantine extends past my current run of the Mass Effect Trilogy, Dead Space 1+2, and a new run through Bloodstained, I'll probably get around to trying to shove my way through a run of Castlevania 2, which has kind of bored me out of attempting to finish every single time I've played it so far.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

The arena stage right? It's tough when you first get there. But as a general rule I always spend quite a bit of time levelling up in the catacombs prior to going there. Heart containers, potions; both for magic and life drop from the bears and Arachnia enemies, as well as earn decent experience. What I also do is get the cross boomerang as that thing chews through enemies and kills 'em quick and easy. In this way I get strong enough and what I need to progress through the arena and win a sweet set of armour at the end of it. Some of the enemies also drop cards as well so you might end up going through there multiple times if you feel the completionist vibe.

In terms of finishing what I've started for the duration of the quarantine break, I have a picture on the go that I've been putting off. At least I completed the other one  _/(-_-)\_

I haven't gotten any extra free time out of this pandemic (still have work but got a pay cut :/ ), so nope, haven't been getting a chance to do any extra gaming. But I have been thinking of starting up Dawn of Sorrow sometime soon. I've yet to play through any of the DS games (not the biggest fan of the SotN clones but they're still fun enough once in a while). Beyond that, there aren't many Castlevania games I haven't ever beaten, at least among the ones I give a damn about (couldn't care less about any of the Lords of Shadow games).

I don't think there are any Castlevania games I own that I haven't beaten. Except for the Simon's Quest handheld because...bleh, and the FDS version of Simon's Quest because the disk drive on my Famicom Twin doesn't work. There's also my PC version of Castlevania that I don't have the hardware to play.

Other than that, it's most of the extra modes in the handheld games that I can't be bothered to try. Like, harder difficulties and Julius Mode and similar things are cool, but the extra modes in Circle of the Moon? I'm already backlogged as it is without adding stuff like that onto it.

Still on a huge Doom kick, though. I haven't really played any CV since the Collection was released.  :-\
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I remember smashing CotM’s arena back in the day, very satisfying.

When I get the Wii set up I’m definitely going to finish Adventure Rebirth, previously got to the Clock Tower.

I’m also going to finish all of SOTN with Maria and Rondo with Richter on Requiem. I played it for about 3 days on and off and got to Death and finished 4’... The Devil definitely flies by night ????

There are also 2 challenges I’m going to make a point to finish:
- Albus mode on OOE Level 1 Max (Hard); Currently at Dracula
- Richter/ Maria on POR Level 1 Max (Hard); Currently at Dracula

I often skip/put off the extra modes/hard modes too, but the ones in Circle of the Moon are worth doing, in my opinion. I've actually done all of those. It's less of a time sink than it seems. After the first time beating the game, I was blowing throw the extra modes in around 5 hours apiece. Each one changes the experience of playing the game, not just makes it harder, so it kept it interesting for me.

Well i just beat Castlevania 64. Easily one of the most obnoxious castlevania games out there. The level design actually wasn’t that bad, some unique platforming elements here n there... but the awful controls killed the experience unfortunately. Not a lot of enemy variety. Those skeleton fuckers are a pain in the ass because they like to chase you around. Vincent was utterly useless. I didn’t fight Renon, i heard that he’s an optional boss that attacks you if you’re “too greedy” or somethin?

Overall it was a decent first attempt at 3D. So i can’t really fault them at doing something with the series that’s never been done before. I heard Legacy of the Darkness fixes a lot of these issues. Might tackle that next

Still need to beat Kid Dracula.

I'm still working (thankfully) so my free time is less than most, but this would still be a good time to try to beat that fucker finally.

I tried playing through legacy of darkness and curse of darkness, and got about halfway through. neither of them seemed like they were worth beating.

i've beaten all the cv games that aren't 3d though

I used my stimulus to finally grab myself a copy of Belmont’s Revenge. So good!! Can’t believe I didn’t play this sooner. The only way it could be better is if it didn’t have that dumb Soleil/Soleiyu mistranslation :P

Just managed to be able to play Order of Shadows through emulation, and the journey to finally complete any emulation-compatible Castlevania games eventually comes to an end earlier this year.

Digging the recently surfaced mobile port of Symphony, didn't get the reason of why Noctune should be disabled AND removed from sound test. The file with file name "ps_hekiru" in sound folder serves as the Noctune track in Dracula X Chronicles port but is replaced by white noise in mobile version. Tried to replace music files but it still didn't make the song work in-game (the green-clothed pixie didn't make corresponding reactions like in original DXC port). It might be removed intentionally through disabling related program routines. Weird.

Thoughts? I really liked Order of Shadows and thought it was a pretty quality game considering the hardware constraints the dev team was working with, budget, and time restrictions, etc. The pace was a bit slow on my flip phone back in the day, but I also played it basically nonstop when I was out and about and caught with any wait time (and no Game Boy Advance).

Sounds like a licensing issue. I don't get why it's even an issue to begin with, but that's the only reason I can think of.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.
^^
You are now reading this in Robert Belgrade's voice.

Then Lords of Shadow 2 just takes a big, semi-solid, smelly, pea-green dump all over everything.
