Nope, and Sony did that to save money. 60 and 20 have complete PS2 chipsets in them, hence the compatibility. 80gb runs off of an emulation program, and 40 has no PS2 hardware at all.

On the other hand, you can still play your Ps1 titles.  Though there might not be too many titles that aren't RPG's/ CV titles that you might want to go back to, still think its worth mentioning.

theres more ps1 games to ply than 2 imo. but man thats pretty lousy to skip out on bc emulation as well. a huge shot in the foot if there ever was one.

Wow that's crappy so there's no actual PS2 hardware in any of the new PS3's anymore, just an emulator?, no wonder the 80gb isn't fully backwards compatible emulators are generally full of bugs and tend to freeze or have problems with random games, or are not able to play some games at all, geez, I'm def. going with an older one I don't want to rely on some emulator to play my old games that could fuck up at any time.

I'm not a big fan of the 360 and the PS3, but the 360 has shown some pretty impressive graphics.
