Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Official Teaser Trailer #1 (2015) - J.J. Abrams Movie HD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOVFvcNfvE#ws)
Dang! I felt teary eyed.... Hooray for something to look forward to next Dec. after the Hobbit ends this year!
But the new red lightsaber.... what's with that design?
-
So how much argument is there about the crossguard lightsaber? :V
-
I can see how useful a cross guard lightsaber would be. Especially when you take into account on how Anakin Skywalker cut off both of Doku's hands by sliding his blade down to the saber grip. A cross guard would prevent that from happening.
-
When I saw that black trooper in white armor and the rolling r2d2 style droid I thought "is this a parody of Star Wars of sort?"
So random. :P

Ah, now you say that... I get it.

I'll see it at midnight but ever since I've heard about new films I've kinda been iffy. I'm sure it's going to be good but we'll see.

Trailer leaves me cautiously optimistic. Nice to see a more diverse cast even if I know disney is making it so as a calculated business move.
Ah, now you say that... I get it.
Then again, there's a few problems with the design.
Warning: Nitpicking ahead, abandon fun all ye who read below-
As various people have pointed out the little projectors on the side stick out too far. So unless we assume that those projectors are made of a lightsaber resistant material then in a dual when the opponent's "blade" slid down the Sith's lightsaber it would just chop off that little projector bit (the same way Darth Maul's lightsaber was split in 2) thus making the crossguard useless. Some site also got a master bladesmith to comment about it and he said having those too blades like that would be more likely to hurt the wielder than an opponent. So even if the main function of the little side blades is offensive, it's more likely to hurt the person using it.
Then again, this is a series where people can move objects with magic by just concentrating on them, probably best not to overthink these things.
-
You know Ratty I thought about that too. They do stick out a bit too far. Had they just come out of the sides of the saber itself that would be a much different thing all together.

I too will reserve judgement until I've seen it. Here's hoping it's better then Episode's 1 & 2. The only thing I'll take from Lucas's prequels is Episode 3 as that movie was more hardcore and a kin to what Star Wars was actually about.

Somebody posted this. I loled.

Yup. Just go for the ride and hope it's better than the prequels.

Me too. We shall all talk about it next year with an abundance of spoiler tags. hehehe.
@Mooning: LOL!

How true. The force thing was a kind of spirituality; The Religion of both Jedi and Sith alike. A mystical 'force' that gave those who were tuned to it the ability to do things that nobody else could. Even the term 'Wizard' was used in one line of the original Star Wars. Yoda himself went into further detail about what the force actually was and we were all fine with that...until Lucas made Episode 1 and put way too much thought into it. Now, instead of it being a spiritual thing, the force is brought about by a symbiosis relationship. And the culprit? Midichlorians :P :P :P I feel dirty saying that word.
@VladCT:
Now that's a cross-hilt that works.

Not as much as there being a black guy as a stormtrooper. Even worse when it was then rumored he may be the lead character of the movie.
The internet took it in a very well respected and adult like manner as you can imagine.

I get (if you go by Ep. 2) why people are in a uproar about the story elements, what I don't get is why people are in a uproar about a black guy as a stormtrooper?
When I first saw that scene, I was under the impression that he stole that armor from a storm trooper and was using it as a disguise...which has been done in the series before.
He sure wasn't acting like someone from the Imperial Guard...
-
Yeah I'm sure there is a reason behind it. I know that in the EU the empire stops using Jango Fett as clones but since the EU has been removed I don't think that excuse works.
-
The uproar over a black Stormtrooper, and I hope he really is a Stormtrooper and not just disguised, puzzles me. They're Stormtroopers, not clone troopers. The Stormtroopers in the original movies didn't act like clones. As I understand it the guy who sets Luke up with the rebel alliance, Biggs Darklighter (who's scenes in the original movie have been restored in at least one of the special editions) was a member of the Imperial Military, and Luke had aspirations of going to "the academy" himself. Point is- clone troopers were no longer standard even by the time of the original trilogy. Why would the empire want to rely that much on a single resource for its fighting force once Palpatine had gained power?
-
And it should be pointed out that supposedly John Boyega's character is a "former stormtrooper", though I'm guessing that if this is true we're going to see him leave his commission during the movie.
Also, Han Solo was in the Imperial Academy, too. Was going to be an officer even, IIRC.
As far as the EU, yes Disney said that it was all being removed from the cannon of the main franchise. They also said they would use any bits of it they felt like incorporating into the new movies.
-
Ratty's correct in his assumption of the Storm Troopers. It is even evident in the original trilogy that the troopers themselves all had different voices. This indicates they are not clones but actual individuals that go through extensive training to become Storm troopers. Many if not all the clone troopers themselves would have been either retired prior to episode IV, and/or killed off by the fledgling Rebellion. It also shows you just how much they suck and can't hit a rebel worth s**t, lol!
-
All of you talk about whether it's logical to have a black stormtrooper, and I'm just like
"Is that a black guy in white armor? Damn that looks hilarious!" ;D
-
I don't mind that a storm trooper is black and even if he is not, I still don't mind.
I am more concerned on the plot.
And please no more Jar Jar Binks like character!

I concur. It is a silly controversy that will die off as time passes.
I'm hoping that they take a lot of inspiration from the EU. I at least want to see Luke begin training a new generation of Jedi, becoming the "Obi-Wan" of the third trilogy.

Mark Hamill discusses Star Wars Episode VII -Luke Skywalker in the Sequel Trilogy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UGV7WVB-bA#)
-
Talk about predictions, he's only 3 years off, lol. I think the Luke Skywalker character will probably be going down that road anyways since he is the last of the Jedi. However Leah is also force sensitive so she could have been training in between the years of Episode 6 & 7. Although it is duly noted that in the EU she has decided not to become a Jedi. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
