Title: Please support Wayfoward so they can make the next Castlevania.
Post by: Pumpkin Glow on August 18, 2013, 06:39:36 AM
you have to do a little digging on Konami's site in order to contact them so here is a link:

https://us-support.konami.com/ics/support/ticketnewwizard.asp?style=classic

probably should have typed eastern and western when I mentioned the aesthetics but here is some of my contribution (grammer probably sucks too):

I believe Wayforward would the best company for making the next Castlevania game. Wayforward mixes asian and western aesthetics perfectly in my opinion.  Also, the gameplay of their titles are very fun and thoughtful.

All you had to say was Adventure time and Ducktales.

Out of all the dev studios out there why look in the trashcan first?

Konami may have already chosen the next dev team to do Castlevania by now.

Plus, some of the key members of Wayforward have left to form Yacht Club games and are working on Shovel Knight. The only one worth anything at Wayforward now is Jake Kaufman.

Bring Jake Kaufman to Yacht Club and then ask them for a Castlevania game. (A new Kid Dracula maybe?) :P

Where did this hate for WayForward come from all of a sudden?

Also Ahaseverus, you cherry-picked the lowest score for Ducktales, it has a 77 and 79 for the PS3 and Wii U, respectively.

Well, Im kinda confused too, the good guys from WayForward are in Yacht Club since when? The only thing that I know is that since Hotel Transylvania I see "how wonderful would be if WayForward did a new CV game", but since I've read here that the best members doesnt works in WayForward anymore, Im confused.

Maybe its because DuckTales isn't so good like some members here expected or what?

Hey, I'll support for WayForward to have a shot at a new CV title. It obviously cant be nearly as bad as LoS.

Whichever company they're at, grab the guys who made Contra 4 and I'll be good.

This does indeed seem like a sudden turn. I remember people saying Bloodrayne: Betrayal and Hotel Transylvania were indicators that Wayforward would be an ideal choice for the next CV dev. Did all of the people who made those two games suddenly leave?

I made a thread about Hotel Transylvania DS/3DS some time before it was released. I had only seen a bunch of screenshots and they looked A LOT like Castlevania. Sadly, the game came out and it was... meh. It still both looks and sounds like a kiddy Castlevania clone, but it's not a very good game. At all.

I know Wayforward is capable of great things, and I think Bloodrayne was pretty cool though. I'd be happy with them giving Castlevania a try.

I must admit I am leaning more towards Armature Studios for a new 2D Metroidvania these days. The new Batman game for 3DS/Vita will have to be awesome though. If not, they're out!

The fact that you had to resort to posting something Metacritic-based makes me lose a bit of respect for you. It's like going to IMDb and seeing people prove a point by posted a Rotten Tomatoes score as if it was God's golden word.

I wouldn't try to write a little essay about every game of them, I've played 4, the best one being Contra of course, bur the rest.. eeeh.
I'll stand for my statement again, Wayforward makes the best looking mediocre games.

The core team that did Contra 4, Shante and Double Dragon Neon all left the company a year ago to form Yacht Club Games.

LOL completely forgetting all about Contra 4 in that 'objective' Metacritic analysis. B
wahaha, that's good.  My sides hurt and everything.

Anyway, having actually played a lot of Wayforward titles, they're good games.
They're not all 'best' games, but you have to remember that Wayforward is a developer, not a publisher.
They're not calling all the shots.  They could make an awesome game and the publisher can go "Well fuck that, cut this, cut that, cut the other thing" and all they can do is say "ok".

Shantae: Risky's Revenge is a wonderful game that isn't packed with a lot of extra stuff.  It's to be sure, at least an 80 out of 100.

I like WayForward, but I can admit not all of the games are the best, but you could definitely say that for every developer. Even Mercury Steam wasn't flawless. Clive Barker's Jericho, anybody? And hell, Scrapland got super mixed reviews. While I might not be the biggest fan of LoS, I can acknowledge they did SOMETHING good, but would it have been fair to write them off SOLELY based on their other games? Hell no! :)

Metacritic be damned(really, as it annoys me how much companies yield to the will of that website regarding "changing things up")!!

Fun fact, I knew Jericho before knowing that it was made by MercurySteam, even before knowing who did LoS. A friend of mine showed the game for me and wanted me to install it in his PC. :P`

It was pretty good, at least the part that I saw, its a FPS. So I know that MercurySteam have a HUGE potential for original franchises and original ideas.

I haven't played a whole lot of their stuff but I can understand folks thinking of their output as at least a mixed bag.

Contra 4 was phenomenal, among the best games I've ever played. Double Dragon Neon was hilarious, pretty fun, could've done without the grindy RPG elements. Ducktales is good, but mostly because it's almost the exact same game as the NES version. Bloodrayne I didn't like a whole lot due to its finicky controls... maybe I was playing it wrong?

I'd like Yacht Club to do some Castlevania, but they seem much more keen on doing original stuff, which I can understand, coming from a background of doing games mostly for preexisting licenses.

So Jericho was good?
It was nothing special as a FPS. The only reason I played through it was because I'm a sucker for Clive Barker. Then again, back in the 80s, I DID sit through Rawhead Rex for the same reason. That being said, I had a much mor enjoyable time with Undying than I did with Jericho.

I'd like Yacht Club to do some Castlevania, but they seem much more keen on doing original stuff, which I can understand, coming from a background of doing games mostly for preexisting licenses.
Yeah, they basically said they WANTED to do original stuff while at WayForward, but kept getting put on existing franchise projects. They basically left because they wanted to do their own original thing, which I'm actually happy for them. I personally don't see a "choose sides" between them and WayForward. I welcome BOTH of them with open arms. The more studios like them(with respect for the 2D craft and retro-styled gaming), the better, IMO. Interestingly enough, I kinda hope Shovel Knight does good. Yacht Club hinted that, with sequels, they might explore a SNES-like route, or even a N64-like route. Would be interesting to see that happen!

That was me playing on Mercury steam being "flawless"ly bad. Because while I "enjoyed" their CV, I found it far from great with a great many annoyances. But I see that it wasn't picked up.

It's a shame everyone forgot about Severance, it was basically proto Demon's Soul's. (yeah I know Kings Field existed)

Wayforward is one of my favorite studios.  Contra 4, Double Dragon Neon, and Risky's Revenge are all great.  The original Shantae and Aliens: Infestation are both pretty decent.  I don't have any other Wayforward games, but I can't think of a better developer to do a new sidescrolling Castlevania.  It's too bad they've split up, but I'll have to keep an eye on Yacht Club.

Aesthetically. visually and soundwise, definitely. gameplaywise, Betrayal was meh. after the first playthrough and 100% of the red skulls, I have not picked it up again. It's a one shot playthrough.

Yes, it is. I don't care much for that kind of combo-based gameplay. But I imagine that, if they were given the chance of a Castlevania game developing, they would make the gameplay CV needs.

I don't see how Wayforward would make a great Castlevania game when BloodRayne: Betrayal had a lot of the same features that people take issue with in the Lords of Shadow games.

-Beat 'em up combat
-Segmented between combat and platforming
-Combat "arenas"

Art was awesome though. I'd love to see that artstyle used in a future CV game.

I know it'd never happen, but I'd like to see Retro do a Castlevania game >.>

I didn't like very much that aspects you mentioned about Bloodrayne: Betrayal's gameplay.
What I really loved about that game was the music and look.

The art was amazing. The level of detail in the animation was excellent, and it made the game feel very fluid. I would be more than happy if they made a Castlevania game in the same style.

WayForward did Aliens Infestation, which IMO is the closest anybody has ever gotten to replicating the gameplay and feeling of Super Metroid. If those guys are still at the company, I'd love to have 'em do a CV game, "Metroidvania" or otherwise.

Mighty Switch Force! 2 recently came out and it's a blast, so not all of the talent left.

I've never played a bad or mediocre WF game.

As well as damage sponge enemies and constant arena battles. Like I said, in 2D games, if they aren't arcade brawlers(with the tilted ground that allows walking in multiple directions, like Double Dragon, TMNT, Final Fight and such), locking in characters should NEVER be an issue. There should be no arena sections unless for two exceptions:

1. Boss rooms.
2. Elevator/lift sections(some Mega Man games, as well as Splatterhouse, among others, do this).

THAT should be a rule!

Odin Sphere and Muramasa are guilty of this as well.  And the rooms, while beautiful, are actually very basic platform rooms.

I completely agree with this. I got totally bored when I got stuck in a full 2D room until I defeat everything in there.
That did not prevent me from enjoying certain games, but I would change that right away if it depended on me.

WayForward did Aliens Infestation, which IMO is the closest anybody has ever gotten to replicating the gameplay and feeling of Super Metroid.

I love how the combat in Infestation becomes deeper as the game progresses.  for example, you have to use left trigger for more precise aiming because the aliens start to crawl on the ceilings.  and the cats! oh god the cats!  Wayforward knows how to pay homage. moms spaghetti
