A CV fighting game is such a good idea that I'd love to see a ton of them! That being said Judgement failed. CV is known for 2D, it's perfected 2D gameplay multiple times through the years, and then when the idea of a fighting game comes around they wanna copy Power Stone? I can accept that as long as the gameplays good, and it was OK. But the art.... omfg. I felt like a DMC fan when DmC was announced. It DOES NOT WORK at all. Like what the fuck did they do to Simon?? That was almost as bad as the Kojima redesign. The worst part of Judgement was the writing though... Titty jokes are fine but in CV it just seems like generic anime try-hardiness. At least the soundtrack was awesome!
If we ever get a Judgement 2 or any new CV Fighter, they should look at Megaman Battle Fighters for inspiration: That was classic Megaman gameplay put into a fighting game format and it worked beautifully- its one of the most addictive arcade games I've ever played. If they do classic CV control and mechanics relative to the selected character: Simon whips in 8 directions and can swing, Richer has the backflip and item crash, Christopher has the fireball shot, Maria can double jump, Juste has the magic sub weapons, Alucard can transform into mist/wolf/bat and even Soma could have some of his soul powers. Sure it sounds like a mess but rather than a character being OP it'll be based more on the player's style and familiarity with their main. Use different sprites as costumes (8-bit Simon, SCV4, Chronicles Kojima, Saturn Richter COstume, 8-bit Alucard etc). I think it was such a wasted oppurtunity, and if they went 2D for Judgement I think it would've been one of the Wii's most respected titles assuming it was done right, and it would've been cheaper to produce by reusing sprites like the Metroidvanias did- possibly easier success.
