Title: Recent purchases
Post by: Abnormal Freak on April 19, 2012, 05:08:58 PM
I find it fun to post what I've hauled in and also see what others have gotten. Can strike fun conversation from time to time, so this isn't just strictly "post what you got," but possibly discuss it with others, too.

Right now I just bought the Splatterhouse OST from iTunes for five bucks. Sounded like good quality from the samples, and I just love the heck out of that score.

Also got some iPhone games:

Ghosts'n Goblins: Gold Knights
Ghosts'n Goblins: Gold Knights II
Krazy Kart Racing
Predators
Silent Hill: The Escape
Splatterhouse (blooooows... shite port)
Zombie Panic in Wonderland Plus ($12 or something—pretty hefty but gets me everything, including future content, and it's compatible with the iPad which my dad recently got for my mom, so it's fun playing it on that and it looks great)

and also scored these at a local bookstore:

That's right, I bought cartoon demon tentacle porn. Subtitled.

What's even better is the La Blue Girl set is the initial printing, which is the most uncut version available in the States. When Central Park Media did the dub, they edited out some things and also re-released the subs with the same edits while still keeping the "Uncensored" banners slapped on the box art. The DVDs contain the same edits. Bogus. Someone needs to do all this sheeit right on DVD or better yet, Blu-ray. Same with Urotsukidoji (Media Blasters' Blu-ray for the first movie sucks).

An Indy video game store opened close to my home and so I bought an NES since I have some games. But everything is dirt cheap, like barely any NES games over $8. So in the last 2 weeks I got like 10 NES games. Anywho, I bought Startropics, I've always been wanting to play it and never have and for 4 bucks how could I say no? That game is amazing and so much fun, can't believe I've never played it before.

I love collecting old games

Also got some
Krazy Kart Racing

How is Krazy Kart Racing? I've wanted to check it for awhile but haven't. It looks fun

It's all right, something fun just to turn on now and then, but not really something I can keep on playing. I suspect the original GBA game is loads better.

The iOS game feels a bit odd since the accelerator's always down. You tilt to steer, and there's a brake. The GBA game looks to be more like Mario Kart with hopping and that.

But for a buck, it's pretty fun.

If you like the Megaman Mega Mix series, then you really need to check out the Giga Mix series. They base the story line off of the Gameboy #5, with the Stardroids. It was a fantastic tie in and great arc allowing enemies to put aside their differences for a moment to join forces. It is just non stop awesome.

Will do. I haven't even read any of it yet, but the art looks super cool and that second volume was real cheap.

But yeah, I'm sure I'll pick up Gigamix. Same artist, right?

^ Though this looks like a Collections thread, it is also a recent hauls thread for games, c'mon I can't be the lone dog in that thread a good portion of the time. ;)

Everything non-game wise could be kept here though.

I see 'em as different.

In that thread, post pictures of overall game collection to show off.

In this thread, post new findings.

S'kinda how I see it; dunno why game acquirings can't be posted here.

Just an overall, all-encompassing "what did you get?" thread.

Recently got from Amazon:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fxsocalcomics.merchantquest.net%2Fshoppingcart%2F4756-4892-thickbox%2Fcrossed-psychopath-vol-3-sc.jpg&hash=42deb2a984bf8ce3365c7a37fad6a7c4)

The Crossed series of comic books started with Garth Ennis of Preacher fame writing and ended up with David Lapham... (not that Lapham isn't good, I just don't dig him as much as Garth - and he's more fixated on gore and porn than story). With the Crossed, it's basically another take on the zombie apocalypse, except that no-one is dead - instead they have some kind of blood-related disease that drives them to do terrible, depraved things to everyone - they still retain their memories and some resemblance of intelligence, but their evil has risen to the surface. Pretty good series.

I've turned that one into pretty much a latest hauls thread, and I also update my collection there, so it's become the game acquisitions thread. Plus it's in the Hardcore Gaming area, the rest of whatever swag you get, music, movies, comics, and the like can be kept here. No one seems to post new collections in that thread, so it became a hauls thread.

Wait, so that is hentai anime in VHS? Not something I would be keeping anywhere around the house.
Only in a digital form, hidden in a secret folder deep inside the hard drive.  :P

The Reign box set is way too expensive on Amazon Marketplace, but there was a merchant selling the individual DVDs for like $15 so I went for it.

Isn't native HD but will likely be the best the show will ever look (upscaled from PAL masters) unless the original camera negatives are found and the CGI is redone, but I don't see that happening considering it's not a very popular show despite being the most amazing sci-fi show ever made by a million light years.

If you're anything like me, it should take you several years. :o A lot of the episodes pretty much follow the same formula and feel the same. We'll see where it goes once Kenshiro beats up all the "lesser bosses," though. I haven't even finished the first volume yet.

Dirty Pair isn't "dirty" at all. It's an action series. They're like space bounty hunters. Actually not "like", it is what they are.

And La Blue Girl and Urotsukidouji (you got BOTH full sets at a book store?! WTF store is this? That's a haul!) aren't just hentai. They're classic works of art. The problem is too many people just view them as animated porn and true, they're not actually made by Toshio Maeda, his works are classics. And Urotsukidouji was a groundbreaker. And to get the entire first OVA is pretty awesome especially since Anime-18 is defunct now. Man, I miss good old' Manga Corps.

Yeah, I kinda kid about having picked up just tentacle cartoon porn, but they're actually much more than that, ha ha. Great art, funny stories in La Blue Girl, and Urotsukidoji is just...awesome. I'd like to have the latter on DVD or Blu-ray, though. The former, however, I discovered is the initial printing which has less censorship than every other US release. Apparently when Central Park dubbed the show, they removed sexual scenes involving Nin-Nin, and they cut those parts out of the re-releases of the subbed version as well. My box set's got all that, and four of the tapes were unopened!

Though apparently there's one scene that didn't get shown here in the US, something about Miko being in a classroom and "taking on" a few opponents. :o Would be nice to get a completely uncut DVD/Blu-ray set someday with great video quality.

And the bookstore was Half Price Books. This one location I go to usually has a lot of cool anime and comics for the pickin', and these two box sets were behind locked glass with sticky notes covering the "naughty bits" on the artwork, heh.

I don't know. I haven't gotten very far in the first Sakura Wars game and haven't played the 2nd yet. But seeing as how I've been flirting with a little girl and trying to get some "alone time" with her in the first game, it wouldn't surprise me if there was something like that to be unlocked later in the game. ... But then I'd be like, "Whoa... THIS IS A BETTER GAME THAN I EVER THOUGHT!!"

No nyoninbou technique in the Sakura Wars anime though :(

Who is it the small blonde girl? I have never played the games but I have been watching the anime on anime network on demand.

And just saying if I had the choice in the first one I would go for Sakura herself.

Yeah, little blonde haired girl. She wants to be treated like a big girl, so you go out on a date with her. I took her to a scary movie, comforted her fears away, then later told her what a mature, beautiful young lady she was. Then in the next battle we fused our powers and kicked ass.

You Guy will not believe me, but today my mom and I went to various garage sales and I found a sega saturn and a turbografx-16. The girl said she would sell them for 50 dollars, and I bumped it down to 25 dollars. Both of them had a controller, and while the tg-16 had all of it's cords the saturn did not it needed I believe it need that thing which you need to unscrew the back of you tv to play an rf plug I think it's called I forget the different switches sometime, the saturn also came with the virtual cop 2 stunner with the box I have it stuck to the side of my wall scotch permanent mounting squares but no game what so ever for the saturn, the tg-16 came with a game called blazing lazers a shooter, but no cd add  on, man if it came with that I jump up and down like a crazy person, next would be that I bought 2 8mb ps2 memory card for four dollars.

Also three instruction manuals for the snes I got super mario world, star fox, and pilotwings (which I have one already a boxed copy of) for one dollar. Later on I had to buy a game for the saturn and the cheapest one was virtual fighter 1 and for the tg-16 I got keith courage for three dollars. Overall I feel pretty darn good about my self in my area a saturn and tg would have cost me over 120 dollars and that is just the system minus the controllers and games.

Also one more question a cartridge is in my saturn it says "replay pro" what does that mean? Does it mean I can play imports like sakura wars or something it had a whole bunch of things on it?

Replay Pro should let you play imports but not sure. I think that was indeed the region free cart. Google it. I just have a Jap Saturn so don't have the cart.

I think it does because it has cheats and on there it list various japanese games and such also I watched inecome company(classic game room) to understand more.

The Pro Action Replay 4 in 1 cart is the cart that is suitable for your non-Japanese Saturn to play imports. But there is one import game that will not work with the PAR 4 in 1, but I forget which game it i.

I'll be passing on Laputa: Castle in the Sky, though, because those mufuggaz at Disney for whatever reason only included dubtitles for the Japanese audio track, which is bullshit to the max. Gonna have to pick up either the Hong Kong or Japanese Blu-ray.

I collect (and use) guitar amplifiers and stuff. I got this not that long ago. 1976 Fender Pro Reverb-Amp in good condition for around $550, which is a really good deal.

I also bought a neat guitar synthesizer and a synth guitar to go along with it. The guitar synth, a Roland GR-55 was $750, and I bought the guitar, a Fender Roland Ready Stratocaster for about $550. With the synth, I can make a guitar sound like all kinds of interesting things.

This video will give you an idea how they work (just watch the first part, the video is way long).

As for video games and stuff, I've been thinking about buying Mega Man IV on Gameboy (otherwise known as Rockman World 4). That's a pretty bomb game, and I already have V, which is even, uh... bomber? : T

I should get off my ass and play the bass guitar I bought ages ago. Got a pretty beefy amp with that one for not a whole lot of money.

Thanks! : D

It's the 40 watt tube one. As you may know, they actually went to 70 watts with a solid state rectifier that very year (1976), but I managed to get one that was apparently built right before the switch.

Here are some others I have, but I didn't buy any of these too recently. From left to right, an early 80s Roland Jazz Chorus 120, a Fender Super Reverb Reissue that I bought new some years ago, and a 1971 Fender Twin Reverb.
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tdpri.com%2Ftelephoto%2Fdata%2F539%2Fsad-sad-amps.jpg&hash=b0bcc5a7f1bca777cb9123c3a5271248)

I also have this Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue. It's with my American Series Fender Telecaster.
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tdpri.com%2Ftelephoto%2Fdata%2F517%2Fdeluxentele.jpg&hash=a149fb9116cdf71f4d7f0b9df07295e3)

Fun stuff, but expensive D:
I need to stop buying these things. Sometimes they leave me with a slight guilty feeling. I know I have more than what I actually need, so anything else will be an indulgence. I'm running out of room for all this stuff, so I think that will curb my amp appetite.

(if image doesn't show, it's the self-titled album by Continues)

Dan Gatto's new project. The whole thing's streaming here (http://mattress.bandcamp.com/album/continues) and I'm really liking it. I was heartbroken when Babyland split up, and I kept hoping Dan would do his own thing, especially since I always wondered what his music would sound like if he went in a fully synth pop direction and with drum programming instead of Smith's clangy industrial percussion.

Well, here it is. I didn't even know he was working on new music, so it's a pleasant surprise. Instant purchase for sure. Loving track 2, "Reckless Heart". This dude's got a gift for writing songs that are simultaneously despondent yet full of hope.

I suspected it would be Assault Suit Leynos 2.

You should give me that game and your Saturn. srsly. I've been wanting to play that game for ages. Been such a huge fan of Cybernator (a.k.a. Assault Suits Valken) for so long, that game looks like the greatest sequel to that classic.

Konami published Cybernator in the States. It and the other Assault Suit games were developed by NCS Corp./Masaya.

And actually Cybernator was a prequel to Target Earth/Assault Suit Leynos, whereas Leynos 2 is a sequel to that but looks more in line with the gameplay mechanics of Cybernator.

You should move to Minnesota so I can come over and play it.

Plus the English vocal version (though it's on a CD-R—but maybe the original always was a CD-R, I'll have to ask; it comes with the English booklet at least)

Plus some Coil-related stuff by Danny Hyde:

DeepDiscount, all pretty durned cheap. Roughly $10 each for those Arrow imports, $30 for the ANOES set, $8 or so for the Sparks CD instead of the $15 or so + shipping from Amazon UK...

And then DD jacked up the prices on almost everything.

Also bought this:

Just to squeeze a little more out of that Deep Discount sale (with an additional $5 off code).

Then I had to go and get my brain thinking about gore films and how Premutos is one of the nastiest and how much fun of a movie it is and I feel really shitty only having a DVD-R so I felt I wanted to own it especially since now it's out of print and how despite how funny the English dub is and totally makes the party atmosphere so much greater and it's Region 0 NTSC so it'll play on anybody's player I felt I really wanted to see it in its original German with subtitles which is available on a Scandinavian DVD so fuck the American DVD for having the German track but no subs but oh well I fucking bought both versions anyway.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fc.dv1.us%2Fp1%2F677%2F021677-d0.jpg&hash=f3afefbf9af869ddc59a7b9da7af77ee) (https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fecx.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F51fyNHAt8-L.jpg&hash=eb004e1ba34cab611022a5a9c29c1d4a)

Diabolik DVD was the only place I could think of which might have it new and at a decent price (since Xploited Cinema is sadly no more) and sure enough it did, so while there I decided to spring on a purchase I've been meaning to make for months.

That's a pretty dang cool set, though I hate that all of the films are 1.85:1. Really cramps the head room; I believe the films were all 1.66 originally.
Title: Re: Recent purchases

You're right the aspect ratio was originally different. But I watched Horror of Dracula yesterday and honestly didn't notice. Lee plays Dracula more like a feral beast with a thin veneer of humanity when you first meet him. Interesting take. Unfortunately in keeping with the other Hammer films I have seen (Aside from "The Mummy" which was great) the main attraction was off screen for the vast majority of the film. That's one thing Universal will always have over Hammer, the monsters are front and center. As I recall you don't even see the monster until literally the last five minutes in Curse of the Werewolf for example. (I was so shocked I timed it, but it's been about 5 years.) At least the sets and costumes are nice in these early Hammer productions.

Just bought the Humble Indie Bundle V. I already had 2 of the games but it was still a good deal.
