Worth buying a Wii?

This is my first post, I was going to post this on another gaming forum but this is definitly the best place for this. I will just skip a story and jump straight to the point

Is it worth in everyone's opnion to buy a Wii ($50ish used, $70 plus tax new in store) for the main purpose of playing Castlevania Judgement ($10-15 in store?) and Rondo of Blood?

I am sure later I might pick up a cheap copy of Zelda Twlight Princess or SM Brawl, but that is probably about it for me on the Wii.

Opinions?

Fuck no.

A Wii is worth it, yes, but NOT for Castlevania.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Buying a Wii strictly for Judgement would be akin to hammering nails into your hand. I own Judgement, and it's strictly "ok". There are a bevy of other good and decent Wii games, so I'd say buying a Wii for the other games you mentioned wouldn't be that bad of a choice. You already mentioned Zelda: SS, RoB, and SSBB. The Punch-Out on the Wii isn't bad, and if you played Final Famtasy IV (or 2 if you are only familiar with the U.S. title) the Afteryears on the Wiiware is great fan-service to those of you who liked FFIV.

Get a Wii for Castlevania Adventure Rebirth.
Judgement is OK but not a console-purchase worthy.

There are many other great Wii games, like Xenoblade Chronicles.  Man that game's awesome.

Yea Judgement was the main motivation to buy a Wii with RoB, TP, SSBB kind of making it almost worth it. I am on PC so I could theoretically play Castlevania Judgement free with a emulator but I am not sure I want to go through the steps. Playing mame, NES, SNES, Genesis games etc is far more simple, unlike playing Wii games on a Dolphin (emulator), which is also I guess I should mention illegal. Far as the other emulators mame, NES etc I am pretty sure that has been legal for awhile now.

I just would rather have the Wii system, for playing online, updates, etc.

Emulation is still a shaky legal subject, but most game companies have figured the tech is so easily acquired and widespread that the damage is done and trying to ban it would only worsen it from a PR perspective.

Therefore most companies tend to treat emulation of older titles with a policy of "let's just not talk about it and hope it goes away".

But yeah, emulating Judgment is far more likely to piss someone off.

Back on topic, yes, buy a Wii. There's plenty of good stuff out for it now, Brawl still counts as one.

Please also consider the following though:

Red Steel 2, Xenoblade Chronicles, No More Heroes 1&2, Madworld, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Goldeneye Wii, Monster Hunter Tri, Wario Land: Shake It!, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

ALL are worth it. And then figure every awesome GameCube game ever.

You can't lose.

Yes. Buy a Wii. But don't buy it for JUST Castlevania. You'd be wasting your money on disappointment.

buy it soft mod it and slap a usb hdd on it and enjoy playin all your legally obtained backups from the comfort and speed of a disk drive. Also until the OUYA comes out and gains some traction the wii is THE console for emulators

Although I own actual games, I LOVE my soft-modded Wii.  I emulate so many old consoles in it, plus I use it to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl with the BRAWL+ mod, plus extra stages.  I got a HP Travelbook USB HDD on there (500GB) with over 80 titles.  Loving the quick loadtimes now, plus it keeps my disc drive from working hard.  Lately I've only used the disc drive for Brawl. xD

Once softmodded, here's what I play on my Wii:
NES with FCEUGX
SNES with SNES9XGX
N64
PSX (yes, I can play Symphony of the Night off my Wii)
MAME (I can play Haunted Castle)
Commodore64
Atari2600/5200/7800
SCUMMVM games
MSX
PC-Engine (though I own the Rondo of Blood VC title as well)
GBA
Sega Genesis
PC98/88

Wiiware titles worth the Wii include:
Castlevania Adventure Rebirth
World of Goo
Gradius Rebirth
Contra Rebirth
Dr.MarioRX
Tetris Party
Fluidity

As much as I love the game, no. Judgment is NOT enough to warrant purchasing a whole new console for. In fact, the only reason I have the game now is because I managed to get a Wii for Christmas. Castlevania: Judgment is a great game (gameplay, sound, and visuals at least. Story and character design? Definitely not a 5 star rating from me), but it's not like, Resident Evil 4 great (which I actually bought a Gamecube for).

I'd recommend getting a Wii for different games. There's no reason I would consider Judgment to be a must-have for Wii-users, despite it being a good game.

In the case of Rondo, I personally believe Dracula X Chronicles is enough to warrant a PSP purchase, but you're better off buying a Vita since you can play PSP games on it, and DXC is made available for download on the PlayStation Network. But... The PSP is a million times cheaper, just the Vita gives you access to all those new games coming out for it.

I am a total ditz when it comes to modding systems. What's that Smash Bros. Brawl + mod?

The Brawl+ Mod uses (or undoes) an issue that Brawl used in order to time the button presses when fighting online.  That process is called 'buffering', where as you press a button, the game waits 1/16th of a second (10 frames) before it does it.  Melee did not do that since it did not have online, so Melee had more precise control.  This is one of the key differences.  The other two would be speed (Brawl+ plays a bit faster than sluggish Brawl, but not as fast as Melee appears to) and balancing out the characters.  In original Brawl, there is a great deal of unbalance between characters in terms of tourney play, so that some characters will never have a clear shot at a victory due to other top-tier characters overpowering them.  Brawl+ attempts to fix it.

Brawl+ is one of a number of projects being done to alter SSBBrawl.  The others are "Project M" (attempts to outright clone Melee's gameplay using Brawl), "Balanced Brawl" (attempts to balance out characters), and Brawl- (this project Ubers every character, their motto being 'if everyone is uber, no one is', so everyone has a more offensive moveset).

There are guides to softmodding your Wii, and it's actually quite easy to do so.

With your Wii softmodded, you can do cool things like back up your system to an SD Card, in case something ever goes wrong.  If your Wii is ever for some reason malfunctioning, you can buy a new Wii, softmod it, and 'restore' your other Wii's file into it.  There are many cool homebrew apps, emulators, and even games for Wii (I have old classics like Quake running on my Wii).  Games which normally would not let you copy your save (like Brawl) do not pose a problem as you can use homebrew apps to back up and restore your saves for every game.  You can even convert old Gamecube Card saves and save them to your SD Card, or restore them from the SD Card back to the Gamecube Card.

But most people use it to play backups off of a hard-drive.  Hell, the app that does that even lets you 'burn' your existing discs TO a hard-drive.  I've backed up all of my titles and play them off of the drive, greatly reducing load times and preventing wear & tear of my disc drive (which I had to replace due to overuse; what can I say, I love my Wii).

That is interesting, you can play SOTN off a Wii, I might look into that, though all of that can also be played off my PC. However if you can have such a easily mobile modded Wii that can play off emulators, a PSX emulator that is pretty sick. Regardless of that, I don't travel often and it ultimatly comes down to CV Judgement, RoB, SSBB and Twlight Princess. Soft modding is definitly a plus and I may need to look more into that. Having a mobile emulator to take to your friends house is nice

This thread did wonders though, I think I may go pick one up tomorrow, ty everyone for the legitimmate replies

The Wii is the easiest non-portable emulator machine.
Plus, with something like an HP Travelbook Hard Drive, in a tiny package you can carry you entire Wii library.  And with an 8GB SDCard, you can stuff any ROMs and ISO's and play 'em that way (my PSX emu plays SotN off of the SDCard Slot).  Symphony of the Night runs nearly at full speed, but Castlevania Chronicles runs slow when you have sound on for some reason.  Regardless, it's one of the best ways (not counting the PSP) to get a myriad of emulators and options.  Again, having a portable USB-powered hard drive connected to it adds the coup de grace to the goodness.

Glad you're satisfied with the responses.
