Hi there
we all know this pic
(https://i.imgur.com/FhoqjDk.jpg)
But i've noticed that the whip has a chain warped around it.
I figured It was like they were saying.
"He is the last Belmont so lets give him both leather and chain"

But I just wanted to ask if anyone knows why? Was there anyhting ever said about.
Thanks

I think I remember seeing this before and scratching my head. To me it doesn't make any sense as to why it is both leather and chain. Would the weapon even work properly with a chain wrapped around the entirety of the leather? personally I'd think not very well. Although it might just be drawn like that for symbolic purposes. If possible you could always try and ask Ayami Kojima what she was thinking when she decided to draw it that way. As the artist she would know without a doubt.

That's a solid Idea, I wonder if she's on Facebook? but what ever its a Great idea thanks.

but the whole chain on the whip thing is just one of those idea that works better on paper, than in real life.

Definitely drawn for symbolic purpose, keep in mind that it was stated in the Sorrow games that the whip's power was diminished or "sealed" after the 1999 Battle, that chain around it is symbolic to its nerfed state within the games.
-
It's definitely symbolic, perhaps of the VK's rage re-awakening (like Julius does)... Or perhaps it's the other way, perhaps it symbolises the VK's true powers being dormant, just as Julius' memories were between 1999 - 2035.

Maybe she was trying to give the fans the best of both worlds? Classicvania games have the whip upgrading into a morning star (or flail) and taking on the appearance of such. The 3D (LoS doesn't) games keep the whip as a whip and not the chain. Anywho, maybe she was meeting in the middle with the two styles of the Vampire Killer.
I'm sure she's not but who knows

Whoever has the Santa Lilio Sangre artbook of Kojima, can you please look into the liner notes beneath/beside the photo?
Maybe there is an explanation there.
-
clearly it's an emasculation metaphor
my high school english teacher said so and she was a pro at overanalyzing hidden meanings that aren't actually there

emasculation
..... The REAL Dark Lord... Mi'rite???

There is a text beneath the picture. But says nothing of value to understanding the picture itself. It's written:
キャッスルヴァニア暁月の円舞曲 & 悪魔城ドラキュラ蒼月の十字架 オリジナルサウンドトラツク
"Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow & Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow Original Soundtrack"
...Which is the source of the artwork. There's nothing else.

i think it's just a reference to the whip being leather in art and a chain in-game
-
It was also chain in art as well. Rondo to be specific.

@plottwist: Thanks for the clarification.

I think its symbolic like we all said, but this has been VERY helpful.
Thanks very much all.
