If this comes to pass, we can just put on Guy Fawkes masks and go blow up the Capitol Building in the dead of the night. It worked in "V For Vendetta" ... I think... They never really did clarify at the end of that if the people got their freedoms back or not. I got the impression that they got their sense of freedom back, but were probably just a bunch of Occupy protesters at best by the end.

Can't hollywood already remove and or sensor whatever they want? Isn't that why we have youtube copyright infringement? Why do they need the extra power? It's not going to get them any more sales.

But if we boycott them, they'll think that their decline in sales is due to piracy, so they'll try to push harder to get that extra power.

lol @ Piracy prevention, the entertainment Biz is always trying to find ways to bust Piracy just to be 1 up'd by the pirates every time...
They act like it's a big deal... yet that shit been going on for ages, it is literally impossible to halt it.

Then Agian, lets see how bad Piracy has hurt the sales of the latest Call of Duty game OH WAIT!

I'm no saint but I still think that it would be nice to see something done to decrease piracy, it's pretty sad to hear things like "why would I buy this game when I can just pirate it!" and “I think I'm going to pirate Zelda this time around” being said like it’s not even questionable practice. Its even sadder when it comes from students of Game Design who I imagine are expecting to be paid well for all their hard work once they start creating games themselves.

it is truly sad when good games are pirated and the Devs don't get the money that the game is worth.

Make good games/movies/etc and make them readily accessible.

There will always be people who'll pirate just to pirate but a good game has proven to do good regardless.

The movie industry made the same crusade against VHS when it was released. They opposed it, claimed the practice will shut them down forever and destroy the market putting them out of business. Did it? Of course not. They eventually embraced it as a distribution medium and they were bale to even increase sales.

Digital distribution is no different. Once they embrace it, like the music industry has, people will be willing and able to buy it that way. It is much more convenient and easy to download than go out and buy. It should be cheaper as well, considering there is no physical media to produce. The movie industry has thus far not embraced it though so people will continue to obtain the movies they want in the new format they want regardless if they have to pay or not.

The movie industry has so far almost completely shunned the idea of digital distribution. Even the ones they've done, they are still doing wrong. They impose insane DRM, and expiration. Not to mention do not discount for the lack of producing physical media. It screws over the legitimate consumer so much, I can't see a reason to recommend buying it legit over pirating to be completely honest.

Well, actors are expensive nowadays, so they have to make their money back somehow. ... And then blow it all on backing bills and other questionable measures in Congress...

Did you mean the BETA Max machine? It was VHS' predecessor.

Thread bump because:

It's still alive, folks.

EDIT: Disregard this post, just learned that Obama has vowed to veto the bill if it ever passes the Congress. Bet this is old news. LOL

It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

I wouldn't discuss the game industry, but if there's one thing I can say is that if I really like a band, or a certain movie, I'd buy it. Owning a pirated copy just doesn't feel right (plus a collection of pirated albums is not really a collection.) And if I didn't? Well, I should have the right to try before I buy. Why should I pay money for an album that sucks? So no, digital media is just not the same thing as having a album or a DVD.
