It’s sort of like Medusa, that’s how you stay ahead of snakes…

Currently rocking Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on the Switch. Got close to halfway through two other times: once on Wii U, then on Switch, but would put the game down for years after that, lol. Started a new game and I'm on the final boss (though I assume there's a secret world). Enjoying it more this time around because I didn't get stuck obsessing over finding all the puzzle pieces and doing the time attack. That stuff'll come later. After all, when I played the original DKC trilogy as a kid, I would just beat the games first and then complete 'em later.

Got the platinum for Shadow of the Tomb Raider recently.  I think I actually like the new Tomb Raiders more then the Uncharted games. The combat is nice.

Currently playing stuff on my Legends Ultimate. I really like the quality of this cabinet better than the Arcade 1ups, especially the buttons and joysticks. Not nearly as many input fails on fighting games.

Hmm, that's a tough one. If we're counting anything with Castlevania on it, I would say Issue 2 of Nintendo Power. As far as the first thing I bought specifically for collecting purposes, probably the CD soundtrack of the first three games (not pictured).

I know what you mean about space limitations. My wife and I just got rid of a couch in the basement to make way for some more stuff, same with a table that was down here. Everything is pretty crammed right now, lol. The finished part of the basement is easily the biggest room of the house, but the total square footage of the house itself is pretty small, about 900 sq ft if I remember correctly.

So is this project completely dead or what?

It is. We actually moved on to greener pastures. I apologize for not clarifying. The reasons are many, I'll be super direct:

This game was announced last january with a little progress and you expect that it will be released around this year especially if it was developed as a non-profit game? Even Lecarde Chronicles 2 or Wallachia Reign of Dracula took about more than two years before it was completed and released.

They could've had the same coder who wrote for CV1 come back for CV III. While the code isn't the same as you've stated, the way it reacts in-game is. That's my theory. Many coders out there in the past like to reuse their knowledge for future products (Bethesda to name one!).

And I mean, it would have simply taken 3 extra bytes of data to correct. I could be wrong, but I don't think that particular ROM bank was full, so they could have easily added in the invincibility potion check and then recompiled the program.

And it strikes me as odd that in both CV1 and CV3, the invincibility potion appears in one (or two?) nonsensical candle throughout the entire game and nowhere else. At first I thought the platform clipping bug was intentional (like keeping in strict jumping). Then I thought maybe the code for the damage check was carried over from CV1, while the invincibility potion code was created for CV3 and they just forgot to revise the damage code -- except the potion was also in CV1. So I took a peek at the code for the potion in CV1.

I had the i-frames timer mapped in CV1 already, so I put a watch on that, because I suspected the invincibility potion variable would be nearby that. I found it at byte $007D, but when I searched the PROM for writes to $007D, nothing came up except a #00 write. In other words, the game never used that variable. I set a breakpoint for the potion and it turns out all the game does is set the i-frames timer. They had created the invincibility potion timer at one point, but just mapped the same behavior to the i-frames timer. The code for the Invincibility Potion in CV1 did not match that in CV3, so it wasn't like they just copied the CV1 engine over.

So yeah, it's an odd bug in the game on soooo many levels.

The Twitter account has shared details about characters and music. I imagine that's easier to show off than work-in-progress gameplay.
