Gonna dump any VA stuff I do here because why not
Undertale Flowey shenanigans (http://www.mediafire.com/listen/y71xd1molkdl9ww/floweyvoice.mp3)
Bad impressions of Doug Rye and Pat Seitz Draculas (http://www.mediafire.com/listen/pjzswx9t33h210f/draculastuff.mp3)
Smaug voice effect replication (http://www.mediafire.com/listen/w0wh181naq2cilo/smaugtest.mp3)
-
It really is crappy. :P
-
The Smaug link doesn't work :-[
-
It lets me access it, and I don't put restrictions on my files...weird.
Reuploaded, link SHOULD work now.
-
Works now. Very good stuff. What equipment are you using?
-
A Blue Snowball and Audacity/FL.
-
Nice. I've got a Blue Yeti and have used it lightly. Blue makes good mics. We're going to need actors for VO and depending on the role, some may not be needed til way down the road but if you are interested send me a PM. I definitely like what I hear.
-
I didn't really check out the Undertale or Smaug ones, since I haven't played Undertale or even watched the Hobbit movies, so I can't really give a fair judgment on them. But I did check out the Dracula one.
I actually... quite like it. Mind you, it's not GREAT by any means, but I wouldn't call it CRAPPY either. The entire time I listened to it, I could easily imagine you in a PC Engine game. Not one of the crappy dubs like Dragon Slayer or Valis 3, but in one like Ys Book I & II. I imagined the voice clip in the latter game with Adol walking up to some villain and their face popping up on screen for them to give him a speech in their 2-frame lip-flap animation. lol
That being said, I think that your Drac voice would actually work for Darm in that game.
-
Nice work D9.
I've been recording with blue microphones for over a decade now. From insane expensive ones that I've recorded with in professional studios, to the Blue Bluebird that own and record all of my stuff with in our home studio.
They are the best man. Good choice with the snowball but I would suggest going away from usb consdesors so you can run a pre amp.
But for convience and the price, I totally get going usb.
@Claimh he's doing better quality work than any PC engine game I've played. I'm not sure if that's a critique of the sound quality or his acting, but it makes no sense to me.
I owned a turbo grafx 16 and a duo back in the day. I had an ass load of games too. And what you said still makes no sense.
-
Yeah, it's mostly a price thing. I simply don't make the money for anything much higher grade than Blue.
That said, they do have some nice quality for the price. If I had my way, I'd have a Neumann U87, but I sure don't have four grand lying around.

Honestly, the Dracula tests are the worst of the three, I think.
-
Blue goes up to very high grade. I've recorded with the blue bottle. That's what I would buy if I could afford it.
They just make a line of affordable USB mics like the snowball.
My bluebird was a good range $300 and then another $100 for a good pre amp to power it.
Being a singer, it was really worth it for me. I've even recorded stuff for radio with it too.
-
By the way you should totally do voice work for Anathema.
That game looks great!
-

Look up various scenes from Ys Book I & II. The voice acting in it was definitely way better than most games of that entire decade. On top of that it even had some major voice actors like Michael Bell, Alan Oppenheimer, Jim Cummings, and even Thomas Haden Church.
Actually, Behind The Voice Actors has quite a few clips up. (http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/video-games/Ys-Book-I-and-II/)
The point of what I said is that I can actually imagine his voice being in a game like this, particularly in the old 90's cutscenes that you'd see on the PC Engine. Also, the Drac voice clip actually is similar in tone to Alan's clip on here as Darm, which is why I said I can imagine his voice being used for said character.
-
Heh, no matter what Micheal Bell does, I can only ever hear Raziel.

REVIVAL POOOOOOOOST
Did a rough thing with Graham because muh evil suave missionary asshole!
Might do more depending on whether it's good enough to be worth continuation, since I really like getting in Graham's head.

Great work, D9! :D Please post more of these! :D

So I've recently submitted a bunch of auditions over on Casting Call--figured I'd put 'em up here.
One is for a Megaman Zero 2 fandub, and the other is for an FFIX fandub.
I'm posting them all as single tracks for ease, and will list the characters in order.
Final Fantasy IX (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/3zd0ffqoad30vm8/FF9dubs.mp3?dl=0)
Characters: Amarant, Dr. Tot, Garland, Kuja
Megaman Zero 2 (https://dl.dropbox.com/s/d5tifs1iusstz4k/MMZ2dubs.mp3?dl=0)
Characters: Elpis/Elpizo, Cerveau, Hyleg Ourobuckle, Dr. Weil
Unrelated from those, here's a shitty Joker I got bored and did without really putting any real effort into it--just a dumb silly test, really.
A bat in the hand is worth two in the belfry! (https://dl.dropbox.com/s/une2s1sa2qa1e4l/joker.mp3?dl=0)
*dances away*

I only listened to FF9 since I am not fond of Megaman.
NICE!
Amarant kinda sounds like Ezio, no?.... Then this means try the characters from Assassin's Creed!
Kuja~♥!
-
Yeah--I always imagined Amarant with a Spanish or Middle-Eastern accent--the catch is that there are some similar mouth arrangements for those as well as Italian accents (with most of the action being in the front of the mouth, the lips, and the tip of the tongue), so I guess it does sound a bit Italian, huh?
Kuja's head is a lot of fun to get into. He's so fab and melodramatic, I love it.
-
Yeah. It sounds Italian but it's ok.
Fab characters are always fun to play. :)
-
Update--I got the role for Cerveau in the MMZ project.
The FFIX project is still being reviewed by the caster, but three of my four were rejected--my Garland remains on the table for now. But I received a PM for two of the rejected auditions stating that the caster wanted to keep in touch for recurring roles, which came with the stipulation of "only specific individuals qualify for this." I'm feeling pretty stoked about that, despite the rejections (though I can't fault him, the ones he chose definitely deserved to get the roles).
-
Congrats on getting the role!
-
Dude, dat VA.
It has the Anime/Cartoon vibe but sounds genuine enough to be a "real" voice.
Got any tips?
-
Aside from general things like "know your strengths and weaknesses, don't force anything, if it hurts the throat don't do it in excess, even a rejection is a learning experience," not really. I've not been at this long enough to really be able to dish out any real advice.

Killer Croc for an animated DC comic (https://www.castingcall.club/auditions/210260)
Scarecrow, for the same (https://www.castingcall.club/auditions/210259)
I also sent one in for Dracula, who features in the comic in question, but you've all heard me do Dracula enough times by now to know what it sounds like, plus the lines aren't super interesting.

i like your stuff yeah i been doing some voices for my monkey king dub did all the voices in monkey king 1 2014 and doing all the voices in monkey king 2 2016 but only dubbed 28 minutes of it so far you can find it in this post if you want to see it
http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,8751.0.html (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,8751.0.html)
i plan to do my own monkey king radio drama and see if i can sell it on ebay being journey to the west is in the public domain i can write my own story and copy write it i even buying jttw Costumes to do my cd art but got a long way to go anyway I'm new to all this but i use a Blue yeti pro with Cool edit 200 and Audacity for more effects
are they any programs you really like that give you effects to help your voice?
i use the pitch to make the girl voices sound more girly and i've used echo and reverb for echo sounds but don't know many other effects always happy to learn
thanks
-
Everything I do as far as vocal effects and changes are done in Audacity, Soundforge, and/or FL Studio, and is usually some combination of two of the programs.
-
cool i'll have to look up them two programs and play with them had no clue fl could do voice effects was thinking it only made music thanks

Random news: I just auditioned for a couple of roles in Mass Effect: Andromeda a bit ago.
I'll keep updates on it posted.
-
Another random thing--I felt like I cheated myself only doing that one excerpt from Ricordanza, and only Olrox at that.
Soooooooooooo naturally I did the entire scene between he and Death, and dolled the thing up like it were a radio drama.
I wanna say "heads up, compressor might've made the audio sound a bit odd," but my speakers are beginning to die so I don't know for certain how much they can be trusted.

Which makes me think that if the Dungeon joined forces and a little rewritting was done taking in consideration the ideas on that novel, the entire thing could be made into another audio drama.

Summoning complete. :)
I love it! Good job!

Well, we have talented VAs and musicians. It could be done given the right push. ;)
