It would be nice porting this game to the colourful Master System - Game Gear because the ZX Spectrum shares many similarities with the SMS, such us the processor frequency, the same resolution among others, these are the requirements for the game to work as the game's official page http://spectralinterlude.com/ :

System Requirements

ZX Spectrum 128 compatible computer
Z80 CPU with 3,5MHz or faster
128Kb RAM or higher
Yamaha AY-3-8912 soundchip or compatible
Tape recorder

and the Master System specifications are:

CPU: Zilog Z80 at 3.579545 MHz (for NTSC), 3.54689493 MHz (for PAL/SECAM)
System RAM: 24 KB (8 kB of RAM and 16 kB of video RAM)
Resolution: 256x192
Sound: SN76489 PSG and YM2413 FM chip (japan only)

The RAM is higher than the SMS's but It could be managed as ROM memory, I recently contacted with Spectral Interlude's feedback asking for a SMS port but I was replied they have no sega programmers so they couldnt do it.

So this is my idea, making a team in order to port it so we can work with rewind team (Spectral Interlude's team), I think they would be willing to do so, but the inconvenient is that I'm not a programmer I only know the very basics (Z80 assembler, C++), but my idea is gather talented people to put their hands on it, that's my idea and if I could help in someway I'll do it then. So what do you think?, could you join this initiative?? Since the Master System deserves it that's because Konami never released a single game for this system.

I would like to see this happening, even if I don't know anyone with this kind of knowledge here.

I loved the SMS. The colors, as stated above, were really fantastic. Too bad the system didn't get the credit it deserved back in the day, if only it hadn't been for Mario. It would be interesting to see how gaming development would have been different...

It wasnt Mario's fault was Nintendo's fault because they didnt let third party companies to develop games for another systems but the NES, they monopolized the 8bits games those days, but the justice came with the Sega Genesis release and the court in favour of third parties companies.

As for the project, I made a similar post on smspower.org and you are invited to join there too, and I'm waiting for a favourable answer from rewind team.

Um...that's interesting. Especially when one considers that Adventure Island = Wonder Boy , and Shinobi ended up on the NES. Wonder how that worked out...

You answered your own questions, these were games made on Sega systems coming to a Nintendo system. This was okay but not the opposite.

Sega to Nintendo = OK
Nintendo to Sega = Get out of my sight! (lol)

Too bad about how that worked out.

I know Kenseiden was supposed to be a "Castlevania killer" of sorts, and it really kinda showed the potential Konami could have had if even given half the chance back then...I loved that game to pieces, especially the controls...

Never played it, but wasn't Vampyre: Master of Darkness a rip off of CV? If so it wasn't as good either.

Vampire: Master of Darkness was a lot of fun!  It's also much more of a CV clone than Kenseiden is - which to me kind of feels more like CV crossed with Getsu Fuuma Den, IMO.  They're both pretty enjoyable games though and worthwhile checking out for people who like Classicvania titles.

I played MOD back years ago and thought it was pretty atmospheric, but after the first stage some of the levels are quite unforgiving. I did finish it using save states, and I like the eeriness of the game. Classic horror theme beginning with a ouija board.

Jazz Paladin: Double Dragon was developed by Technos Japan as an arcade game and had ports to Sega systems.  The NES Double Dragon  entries tended to be fairly different to the arcade versions, compared to the other ports (more so as the series went along).

Zangetsu: Yeah I really liked the atmosphere in V:MoD as well - it is more straight up Victorian-Era Gothic than the CV series.

The Master System was an underappreciated system in USA but not in Europe this system has a catalog of fantastic games like some of my favourites:

Metroidvania genre:
Zillion
Wonderboy 3
Cyborg Hunter

Classicvania genre:
Rastan saga
Zillion 2
Master of darkness

...among others

If you have the opportunity to play on an emulator I suggest of with no sprite limiter and you'll be amazed

I remember Basketball Nightmare for the SMS. It was like Sega's version of Arch rivals except the theme was Halloween/ Horror.
