I fucking love the backstory for the Trojan war. You know, about the three goddesses arguing about which one is the most beautiful. And Aphrodite promising to give Paris Helena of Sparta, completely ignoring the fact that may trigger a gruesome war between the kingdoms.

And if the Trojan war never happened then the Roman Empire would never have existed. I have to wonder if that would have been a good thing..?

Never heard about that idea. What are you basing this assumption on?

Seriously. Read the Aenid sometime. It's all about that.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

And Zeus turned into animals so he could get some tail.

Where's the fucking bestiality love in the Bible? Pagan girls are kinky, freaky bitches! Hel, Báthory Erzsébet is rumored to be one of the kinkiest!

Actually, that's a misconception. A man and a woman are smuggled through the destruction of Ragnarok by Odin in the hollows in the World Tree, in addition to two children of Odin, two children of Thor, and a revived Baldr, who all become the first of the Gods in the new world, which will shine even brighter.

Well. that right there explains why it's a dead religion. We're still in this shitty old world!

He died. Or should I say was killed over a dispute with his brother Romulus as to whom should rule Rome.

Fantastic tales Sigurd! F**king love mythology. Pagan mythology is so noneducational.
In Judeo-Christianity it's always about "love god and he'd love you back." blah blah blah.
But pagan gods are always like, "F**k you, I'm a god, I do what I want. Disrespect me, and you'll get your arse whooped. Respect me, and you still might get your arse whooped if I feel like it. Yeah, I'm bad like that."  ;D

Hey we Christians have some fun stuff too. In Acts 19

God gave Paul the power to perform unusual miracles. 12 When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled.

13 A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. 15 But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” 16 Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered. [/b]

17 The story of what happened spread quickly all through Ephesus, to Jews and Greeks alike. A solemn fear descended on the city, and the name of the Lord Jesus was greatly honored. 18 Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. 19 A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars.[c] 20 So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect.

And in Acts 5

5 But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. 2 He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest.

3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. 4 The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”

5 As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified. 6 Then some young men got up, wrapped him in a sheet, and took him out and buried him.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?”

“Yes,” she replied, “that was the price.”

9 And Peter said, “How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too.”

10 Instantly, she fell to the floor and died.
When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened.
12/1/12: Nominated for my 1st award! Thanks to all :D

Some of the streets in Spokane, Washington are named after Norse gods. I saw Thor St. and Freya St. on our drive back home one night.

And yet to this day no one in modern recorded history has been smote for lying to God. Peter was a heretical sorcerer. He knew Jesus, so he was able to get close to demons and deal with them. That's my theory. I mean really, Judas sells out Jesus and hangs himself, whereas Peter straight up lies to everyone around him about being one of Jesus' disciples and then goes on to become one of the greatest and most feared apostles? Dude's stories smack of demonic dealings.
