Title: Pollyanna, ya big galoots
Post by: Laina on March 19, 2016, 02:44:55 PM
"Let's play the glad game..."

Seriously. I'm in the throws of a nervous breakdown & this makes me feel better. Really. Being honest. Especially after speaking to the Buddhist monk that recently visited my school.

But yeah, so, for those of you who don't know the drill, name something that makes you glad, or in my case, happy, because that's such a fleeting thing & then we'll all focus on the good things in our lives rather than bad...at least until I close the cover of the iPad.

I'm happy that my hair is long enough to touch the bottom of my bum now.
I'm happy that I figured out a fitting name for my new light blonde, slightly curly on the ends, long haired cat - Adrian.
I'm happy that this semester of college is almost over (7 1/2 weeks to go).

Your turn! :3

I haven't been too glad lately, but I'll help out:

-I'm happy that my Orchestra Buddies have helped create a great rendition of my Castlevania Orchestral Arrangement.
-I'm happy that I have a job that lets me be creative and make really cool, geeky, game things.
-I'm happy that I have my family nearby, they're a great support system for me.
-I'm happy I have kickass friends.
-I'm happy for you guys.

"Thankful" is a more appropriate word for these, but that doesn't mean I'm not also happy about them.

I'm glad to be able to wake up in my own bed with a roof over it every day.
I'm glad I don't have too many hardships to deal with that aren't manageable.
I'm glad I have a network of awesome friends and loved ones who I know I can rely on and vice versa.
I'm glad that I can find enjoyment in the little things, like the swell of a piece of music or the rustle of a breeze over water or through the leaves and trees on a chill morning walk.

Now for the less-introspective ones.

I'm glad my five cats aren't assholes who knock stuff off tables just 'cuz.
I'm glad one of said cats thinks he's a dog and will act and beg like one, because it's a big part of his personality and I love that fluff-lump little bastard.
I'm glad that chocolate-covered almonds exist. REALLY glad.

I'm happy that my students love me.
I'm happy that I'm getting better at UFO catchers.
I'm happy that my face has less pimples today!

I'm happy that two of my sisters are on speaking terms again.
I'm happy that my wife not only found a job (it's really been hard for her to find work again), but it's something that she's interested in, and knowledgeable of.
I'm happy that my shift at work seems to respect me as a manager.
I'm happy the MRI on my shoulder revealed nothing serious.
I'm happy that my financial situation is starting to turn around.
I'm happy that Dark Souls III is just around the corner.  :P
I'm happy about getting back into comics, and how thoroughly impressed I've been with some of the stuff I've read (Kraven's Last Hunt, Dark Phoenix Saga, Miller's and Bendis' Daredevil runs, Moon Knight, etc.)

This is a nice idea!

I'm happy for my loving and supportive family. My wife and my daughter are great!

I'm happy for having a new nice house on the beach to rent while we prepare to get a house of our own.

I'm happy for a good paying steady job (even though it's not the job I want..) It's better than nothing!

I'm happy for the awesome partnership and friendship I have with Mig. We've been working together for a long time now. And it's been a dream! I'm excited for what we have planned after LC2!

I'm happy for my Keurig coffee machine. And I also am happy for chocolate cover almonds!

I'm happy that our cat seems to be way happier in this house. Our chinchilla, totoro seems to be digging it to!

I'm also happy to be part of such an awesome online community. The people on this dungeon forum have truly made this place great! Even when the series this forum has committed itself to is on the rocks, the dungeon still goes strong and has people enthused about Castlevania.

- I'm glad for Mother and Mother 2, and the great music those games have...including one named Pollyanna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYqDCPg7GPE) and another (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5n_l7QvSPU) that's sorta a remix!

- I'm also glad for the wonderful family that supported me through my heart failure and transplant...and that I was able to get a transplant.

I'm happy for the box of Glosettes that I just polished off. love me some 'o that chocolate-covered raisins.

I'm happy that I've gotten back some of my creativity since I'm writing once more. This gives me another step towards finishing one of my stories.

I'm happy for the mild winter we got this year. The first I've ever experienced anyways since I was born.

Wow, didn't think I'd come across anyone who would remind me of Pollyanna. I read it in elementary school.
Books like that always made me sad, so I kinda hated them by a certain age. I mean books that tell stories about hardships and misfortune. Pollyanna's glad game is not something I could ever come up with because I find it difficult to "look at the bright side".
I'd rather just look at the dark side and say "forget this, I'm still here, this too will go away" and then carry on. Don't know if I'm a stoic or an escapist.

These days I'm grateful for my books and music.

It's what makes sense to me these days. I'm also grateful that my Dad's boss is even considering giving me a job as a driver.

I'm happy that we haven't heard anything more from Adi Shankar & what sounds like will be a gorey just because they think it's cool & "edgy" (or some other asinine term) animated version of CVIII. I know this doesn't mean it's been scrapped (which I actually don't want) or handed off (yes, please), but still, I'll take this moment of silence. That guy seems like a giant tool & I don't feel like he'd do it justice despite his Power Rangers & Dredd credentials. Okay, back on the happy track.

I'm happy we're all super chill & progressive now on this forum & therefore can talk about our issues & problems openly. I remember when such a thing was frowned upon, long ago, in the before time...

God, I thought I was the only one who thought this "violent Castlevania" idea was total rubbish.

I also thought his Power Rangers was crap, and Dredd was a steaming pile of shit. Please don't let this guy get his hands on Castlevania.

I'm thankful for my job.

After 4 years of unemployment, driving food twice a week for Meals on Wheels is great. I love that they took a chance on me even if I'm an unpaid part timer for now.

I know it seems almost blasphemous as a die hard CV fan to say this but... I don't really think that there needs to be a Castlevania movie of any kind. Ever.

This high violence and gore idea sounded horrible.

I mean... Maybe if it were erotic violence...

On a more serious note, I am thankful for my career and managing to solidify a place in the current company I work for.
I'm thankful for the people I love being okay and for being able to still find the time to spend with them as well as doing things I like.
I'm thankful for having somebody who truly loves me and I her and that we understand one another at an innate level.

Van Helsing was all the Castlevania movie I will ever need. No Castlevania movie will ever be as good in execution as it is in idea-form.

Back to the game/free therapy for me...

I'm glad that Diabolik Lovers is a thing, but I wish they'd translate it into English already for the small niche market that it would find success with over here. My Japanese, while better than it was, still isn't good enough for me to fully enjoy the games I feel (certain things are lost in translation at my level), though I get the gist of them now.

I'm glad that Hakuouki: Sweet School Life is a thing because holy shit, the endings in the first Hakuouki depressed the daylights outta me. But the same problem I mentioned before exists - I need a better English translation than the one I can provide myself with at the moment. Gotta hit them textbooks I'm having shipped to me from Japan when they get here (I had to leave some luggage with a friend when I left due to airline fees)...

Oh.... Is the live action drama+movie any good? I'm contemplating whether to watch it or not (because of one actor who's just in a cameo role...). I haven't played the game and am not planning to atm.

Thank you for all those who are uploading J dramas on streaming sites! I love you all~! Whoever you are...
I still need to finish Indigo no Yoru. ahahahahhaa~ ♥

I have no idea honestly. I've only played the first Hakuouki game, Demon of the Fleeting Blossom & was super depressed with the fate of everyone I hadn't chosen to be my man. But really, I was mentally prepared for such a thing, to a point, going in...I mean, it's about the Shinsengumi...what else can one expect?

Oh I see. Well, sometimes mentally preparing yourself doesn't work. And stay away from depressing titles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollyanna

Quote
Pollyanna is a best-selling 1913 novel by Eleanor H. Porter that is now considered a classic of children's literature, with the title character's name becoming a popular term for someone with the same very optimistic outlook.

Quote
The title character is named Pollyanna Whittier, a young orphan who goes to live in Beldingsville, Vermont, with her wealthy but stern and cold spinster Aunt Polly, who does not want to take in Pollyanna, but feels it is her duty to her late sister. Pollyanna's philosophy of life centers on what she calls "The Glad Game," an optimistic and positive attitude she learned from her father. The game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation, no matter how bleak it may be.

I'm also happy that she's pregnant - I LOVE kittens.
