So when you play Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, you know that there's a hidden Staircase at the Castle Keep.
You also probably know there's a hidden platform in Super Castlevania IV near that same staircase.
And you probably know about the secrets in Castlevania 64/LoD around those same areas.
But what I did not know is that these areas around the Keep may be a reference to an old glitch present in early versions of the Castlevania/Akumajo Dracula Famicom Disk System version (FDS).
Observe!
Akumajou Dracula (Castlevania) bug : .......air staircase in final Boss state.. ? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--dr9XIyL48#)
I'm still learning stuff about CV!
-
Inverted castle! xD
-
Very cool find Jorge!
-
Cooooool ;D
-
Well I'll be, nice find Jorge.
-
Yeah you can see where the influence came from. That's fun.
-
Now that I did not know about! I guess CV has it's own minus world too!
-
Whooooaaaa nice find Jorge! :D

Castlevania 1 Map: 102%
-
OMG! Wow great find Jorge.
-
Yay! Other people also did not know! :D :D :D
-
Too cool. Hadn't seen this before. I have to laugh at how I would have felt if I'd gotten a glitch like this the first time I made it to Dracula. The mix of alarm and anger is palpable lol.
-
This is the first time I even knew Rondo had an invisible staircase, lol. I always figured there had to be a way to get up there, since you can in SOTN's prolog, but never bothered to find out if that was so.
I wonder if this works on the Virtual Console version of Akumajo Dracula?
-
I also didn't know you could get up there in Rondo. What exactly causes this glitch to happen? I wonder how common it is for people to find this.
-
Nice! I haven't played SCV in years though so I don't remember it...and I don't think I know of any secrets in LoD...what's there?
-
In Rondo of Blood:
-Climb the staircase to the throne room. Stand to the left of the moon, on the first two blocks of the platform, and jump straight up and hold UP on the controller.
Richter will land on 'invisible stairs' which you can climb upwards to some goodies (mostly money). If you keep on dying at Dracula the goodies may get you one more life.
In Super Castlevania IV:
-Instead of climbing the stairs to the throne room, take a leap of faith to your doom right off of the platform that has the bottom of the stairs. Instead of plummeting to your death, you'll land on an invisible platform. Keep on walking left and you'll drop to another platform by the wall of the Throne Room, at which point you'll get a bounty of 99 hearts, some chicken to fill your health, a Boomerang, and Double Shot, and a Triple Shot. Getting back up to the stairs is tricky though, as you don't know where the platform ends. You press UP a tile or two from where you got the treasure, and Simon will walk up 'invisible stairs' to the mid-air invisible platform. Jumping back is tricky as you need to have learned by now how far Simon can jump and jump from around the maximum length, back to the staircase platform.
Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness:
-Instead of entering the door with the Dragon Emblem at the top of the stairs to the Throne room, jump to where the torches are. You won't be hurt by the torch's fire. Instead, you'll land on the platform the torches make, and will be able to walk around the outside of the throne room. On the opposite side, there's an invisible platform you can walk across to a faraway candle holding goodies (I think it's a Medical Kit, the strongest healing item). I forget if there was more.
In Portrait of Ruin:
-The room just before Dracula's Throne Room at the keep holds a secret on the top. However, it's not hidden at all.
In Harmony of Dissonance:
-The keep stairs have a gate that you can destroy with the Crush Boots. It's at the top of the stairs.

Awesome find, Jorge!

Wrote about it here awhile back:

LOOKS LIKE KURT BEAT YOU TO THE PUNCH JORGE OHHHH *raise the roof*
-
I'm sure he knew, but I didn't know. ;3
-
According to the writeup, it works on the VC release, which I uh ACQUIRED TOTALLY LEGALLY YA KNOW? with my Japanese Wii and stuff.
Gonna have to give this a try.
-
I thought it only worked on the Famicom Disk System (FDS) version?
Let me know your findings.
-
If I recall, the VC release is the FDS version, because it has a name entry screen (unless the Famicon version also had this).
-
Yeah, the VC version is the FDS version...the cart version doesn't have the name entry screen. There was only one version of the FDS game, they never fixed the bug. There were two cartridge revisions, and the stair glitch was fixed on both of them.
-
I love when they reference something from another castlevania especially something so early in the series. Likely the newer games weren't even sure where the tradition started...
-
Whaaat?? That's awesome! Does it work in the NA version too or just JP?
-
That original castlevania glitch is really cool. I had no idea :/
