I'm with X on this one. The more you redo sprites the better you get at it. But no worries for now. The engine is more important anyway.

Yeah his walk and attack look nice. He doesn't seem to look julius esk with the attack anymore. But then i that is really the ds style whipping when talking about julius. Doesn't johnathan attack similar?

Taking Edward Scissorhands to a whole new level!

I don't know about jonathan's attack, I went into Julius as soon as I thought about attack animation...

Jonathan whips with the opposite hand so it's not the same.  He whips like his dad John, or like Christopher Belmont from the GB titles.

Those last two frames are what remind me of Julius the way the head is almost covered by the arm.

Looking at it some more, I think your blues have too much contrast. The lightest shade pops too much.

Thanks X
Here is the new demo :
Castlevania Epitaph of Blood Demo 2
But I need a flame sprite... Can someone help me out with that ?
I am really liking where this is heading. I think you need to add more animation to Richter's arms while he is running. They look pretty stiff. Or you could do a ninja running thing. (I'll probably here about some flak about that...) In matter of fact, your running seems like to be going that route. It's very anime like, and that seems to fit the art style that you are portraying. I would also do some extreme photoshop makeover on that village. Seen it waaaay to often in people's fan games. About the flame thing, did you ever just think about taking your village sprite and applying a photoshop filter on it to make a heat wave on it and make your own flame sequence? That's what I started to do on my Cario stage for my fan game:  Vamprotector: Cario,Eygpt mini preview

I remade his sprites walking :3 I changed from the julius walk to the richter walk, now his arms animation must be better. About the village, I'm still working on the level design, since I'm not a sprite artist I'm not that good with backgrounds, but the idea about photoshoping a heat wave really seems nice for the houses that are in the background, the houses that are more in the front I'll try to apply some coloring so it seems like a fire atmosphere is going around...
