A Belmont
A Belmont with the Vampire Killer
It needs to stick with the timeline, no new origin
A gothic atmosphere
A serious tone
Sub-weapons
Good Acting
Medusa Heads
Limited use of bad CG
Axe Knights
What a horrible night to have a curse!

So Dracula gets no place in the list?

1.good acting
2.consistency with the games(timelines and all)
3.Characters from the games
4.good directing
5.good plot and story
6.horror atmosphere
7.good music
8.blood and gore
9.sequels
10.length and depth

that's about all I can think of.
They really can pull off a good Castlevania movie if they try.

In a way, I wish they stop making Dracula the boss of all these games. He's supposed to be a great evil, but he gets owned in every game.

No Introduction, It just starts off with the bridge opening up.
No dialogue
An unnamed Belmont
A stylized view of things
A good costume that reflects the time
Dracula tells the whole story before the fight
The sub weapons are already on him
A castle
The bosses
ATMOSPHERE

I say this because it accurately reflects the games.

Either this or movie version of LoI with Christopher Walken as Rinaldo

How about a part where the protagonist tries and fails to jump onto a staircase?

10 things the CV movie most definitely does NOT need:

1. A plate of meat falling out of a shattered wall
2. Angst-ridden, pasty-faced teenagers
3. Vin Diesel
4. Slow, annoying falling bricks
5. Little girls in pink outfits
6. A score by Philip Glass
7. Hearts
8. Items dropping out of destroyed candles
9. Visible life bars
10. Dracula telling the Belmont protagonist: "I am your father."

"When it comes right down to it, extinguishing a living soul is as easy as blowing out a candle."

What about the Belmont strut? I mean they have to show some type of escape scene right? Is he gonna strut his way outta there or what?

Well, I'm not sure I could name 10 things, per se, but what I'd want most of all is that they'd take away game-only features such as breakable candles, wall-meat,
Sub-weapons
,
No Introduction, It just starts off with the bridge opening up.
No dialogue
An unnamed Belmont
[...]
The sub weapons are already on him
,
Slow, annoying falling bricks
[...]
Hearts

and many more. I also wouldn't want to see Conan Belmont nor
Dracula tells the whole story before the fight
, that just wouldn't work. Sure, it works in some old games, maybe even some new ones if done right, but in a movie it just...wouldn't work. I want that to be the number one thing to have in mind: Have it a good movie, regardless of how well or badly it portrays the in-game universe. I also wouldn't really want to see platforming, it'd feel excessively silly.

In terms of the story, I'd prefer to see a new story, I don't think any of the games has a story that is good enough, but can also stand on its own. Games like Aria, Lament and Ruin all ride off of other games in the series, while games like CV1, CVIII and Rondo don't have storylines that would be good enough for an actual movie. So I'd like them either to take one of those stand-alone stories and add an extra layer of story to it, most probably CVIII due to its cast, or just have a completely original story featuring a Belmont. Kind of built up like Lament, only with Dracula dying in the end.

Oh, and Dracula needs to be in it. While I do agree that the series can very well expand beyond him and introduce new villains, if they don't want the movie to ride piggy-back off the games in the series they NEED Dracula to be in it, since he is, for better or worse, the core essence of the series.

So, in short:
Good, independant storyline.
Have it a good movie, not have it wave its video-game heritage around.

And...that's pretty much it. I don't need 10 things, just 2 and a lot of text :D

Edit: Now that I think about it, I guess I could do even better, and put it together into just one point:

Don't have it a bone to throw towards fans, but rather a good, independant movie all on its own.

So in other words Van Hellsing? Hugh Jackman would make a great Belmont
