Title: Amazon description of Legends
Post by: Crying Freeman on November 29, 2015, 09:33:00 AM
Below is the manufacturer description of Legends on Amazon... Just read it.

"A full moon rises on Castlevania Legends the first GameBoy title since 1991 in the wildly popular vampire hunting series. The feminine twist to this entry has pony-tailed Sonja Belmont cracking her whip on all sorts of things that go bump in the night. Hardly a Y chromosome is in sight as Sonja the sister of longtime Castlevania hero Simon Belmont searches a gloomy castle for Count Dracula himself."

1) That read was hilarious.

2) They obviously didn't do their research as Sonia isn't Simon's sister. Though that would make for an interesting twist.

"Hardly a Y Chromosome in sight"

That had me bawling. And apparently Alucard and Dracula are women. Or have Down's Syndrome in a big way.

So many things wrong with this description.. How could anyone manage to know LESS about the game?

You just can't. Someone definitely had a lazy day at work.

You just made me realize that someone probably got paid to write that...

Although this is terrible, at least it's an amazon description. When NOA used to put complete and utter bullshit into the manuals of Legend of Zelda (namely ALTTP) that shit made my blood boil.

I feel you, man. I haven't read ALTTP's English manual, but as a huge Golgo 13 fan I hated how Vic Tokai changed Golgo's occupation to secret agent, as any fan knows he's an assassin for hire. But hey, Nintendo is also to blame as their censorship rules were ridiculous. What's even worse, they wanted him changed from assassin to agent, but didn't get rid of the blood or swastika in the game?

The thing about censorship is that it seldom makes any sort of goddamn sense.

I remember seeing Golgo 13 on VHS years ago when I was like 15 and the English version was called "The Professional" - like the film with Natalie Portman and Jean Reno - but are the 2 even related or was it a marketing ploy for a Western Audience?

Definitely a marketing ploy. I hear they have similarities, but completely different films. Golgo 13 The Professional is my #1 fav movie BTW (I know, I have very odd taste lol)

It's fun to look at Streamline Pictures stuff, as one of the first distributors of anime in the US, and most of their dubs have really good acting compared to bland emotionless stuff today.

None at all. Forgot to mention they also let them keep the sex scenes. Sure, they cut the nudity, but an NES with blood, death, dark moments, smoking, swastikas, robot Hitler's (renamed) and sex... But we can't have those crosses in Duck Tales  ;D

Aww shit maybe that was it afterall.. Is that film the one where that snake guy rapes the rich guy's daughter and the dad has the butler lock the door behind him?

Yeah that one. A lot of people don't like it, but its a cult classic for fans of the old school. With Golgo 13, you're either a fan or a disliker.

It has fantastic writing and one of the best anime villains I've ever seen, but he's a fantastic villain for film in general too. Plus the twist at the end has such a perfectly done scene. (Better to go in not expecting a twist end tbh, but there ya go lol). Just A LOT of shocking buts in it and a few dodgy lines, but a really good dub courtesy of Streamline Pictures.

Haha I liked it, it was pretty full on for a 15 year old, and I can't help but thinking that watching the 90' style more hardcore anime like Akira, Fist of the North Star, SFII, Golgo 13: The Professional, Suikoden: Demon Century, Vampire Wars, Cyber City Odeo and the like has somewhat desensitized me... But hey I'm still here.

Lol I feel ya man. Golgo 13 The Pro was my first R rated film, i was 14. I'm aware its crazy stuff but I like it. You can tell by my name I'm a huge Crying Freeman fan. MD Geist is also comedic gold  ;D could've been better with a good dub

Yeah true, CF was such an interesting anime. I can't believe the way it starts out, the first episode is pretty fucked up in retrospect.
Can't forget Wicked City... I will NEVER forget the snake scene where it slithers out of that woman.... Still makes me shudder

Later episodes of CF go so overboard. It is messed up a lot of the time, but there are always underlying themes of love and respect which i really dig, plus I like skilled and metaphorical/knowledgable characters lime Freeman.

But Wicked City was just rereleased by Diskotek, who do awesome fucking jobs. I might pick it up, I liked the story and action a lot besides the perverted old man who turns into a badass later. Also wanted to give the novel series its based on a try, they're all translated in paperback for cheap on Amazon.

Do they remaster/ redub?

Do they remaster/ redub?

I think it's remastered, but definitely not a redub. They don't have a dubbing studio, and only release a blu ray if an HD remaster already exists.

Diskotek likes to rerelease old anime in amazing packages. They find what they can on the films and include it in some way. Example in Cagliostro they uncluded both English dubs alongside the Japanese ones, for Golgo 13 they included the director and producer commentary plus fixed sound issues in the other DVD release, for Crying Freeman they fixed odd edits Streamline made.
