Title: A Castlevania Game you'd like to see Remade
Post by: Atcero on April 02, 2014, 02:25:59 PM
What Castlevania game would you like to see remade, whether making it longer or just a reboot over all?

simons quest is the one that needs it the most, and would be beneficial to all

That does seem like a good one to remake...surely some extra love and attention would do it some good.

Another good one would be CV3.

I also wouldn't mind seeing remakes of SotN or LoD.  When I was a kid (and sucked at video games...always calling dad in to beat the boss or whatever) I couldn't handle the NES Castlevania games.  I never really gave them another thought until SotN, and then went back and enjoyed them all.  So I kinda wish we could get a remake that keeps everything from the original, but adds more to it...like the inverted castle, but more and better...somehow.  Basically the same for LoD...just more to it, more to play.

Simon's Quest is definitely my number one choice for a remake. Have it done in the full metroidvania style. But, next to that, I would like to see CV: Legends remade in the same kinda way they did the CV: Adventure Rebirth title.

Simon's Quest is definitely one I would consider, However CV64/LoD is the one I would treat first. The 64 CV titles are the ones I still consider to be the best of all the 3D CV installments to date.

You can usually predict what people are going to answer. Therefore, I'm going with the usual suggestion: CV3. However, a requirement for me would be, assuming it would be a straight up remake, that they stay true to the original intent of the game. They shouldn't change the character designs, overall tone, or retcon the storyline just so cram it into some timeline it doesn't fit in.

On the other hand, I would be completely fine with an "IGA-friendly" reimagining of the basic storyline, further expanded to include more references to other IGA games, a few unexpected suprises to keep things fresh, and preferably a completely original gameplay style (ripping off the Souls games, perhaps?)

Didn't IGA say in some Dawn of Sorrow interview that he thought about doing a CV3 Chronicles but he just kinda forgot about it?

This may be just a quirk of mine, but I think CV III was so damn near perfect in its execution, that the only kind of remake I would want to see of that one is a graphic/music overhaul, like the SNES Mario All Stars remakes of the NES games. I can think of nothing in the mechanics or level design I would want to be tinkered with. Although, if they did one, it should be an overhaul of the Japanese original, because Grant being able to throw knives in an unlimited capacity without "heart" fuel was too wicked to leave out.

Simon's Quest would be cool, but I would like to see Belmont's Revenge given a remake treatment. Its a bit of a weird little game with the elemental castles and such. I think Rebirth was great but not entirely close to Adventure's style and tone (for the better) so something a little closer to a straight remake with more content/polish would be cool by me.

Otherwise, Kid Dracula.

I don't know about a full remake but I would be all over a "remastered" version of Legacy of Darkness. Just tweak the camera a bit, add in the content exclusive to CV64 and up the res. And there you go.

I agree that Castlevania 3 is just about perfect as-is, even the visuals hold up well imo. Great art style. If I was to choose one game that needed a remake it would probably be Castlevania Legends because it's got one of the more interesting stories in the series locked inside a good-but-ultimately-mediocre entry. If we were sticking just to "canon" games though I'd pick Harmony of Dissonance, fix the music quality and make the castle designs better. And maybe give an alternative costume for those who would like the hero to look more like a Belmont, though that's less important.

And don't forget to have Juste's sprite redone. His animations were questionable and awkward-looking. Also his movements were slow and floaty.

@ X.. Yeah..talk to Donofrio about Juste.. I mean..he uses it for Serio's fighter.. But man he did some nice sprites for him.

As for remakes...hm...suprised not many mentioned SVK or SCV4. Also  i happedn to eyeball a cv2 remake of sorts on deviantart a while back. It was a very dark game in nature with all original graphics. Gotta say it looked good but so far i've seen no demo of it. It's not called simons' quest. i think the curse of simon belmont..?? idk

Personally i'm a big fan of the first 3 so naturally i would say those. Like cv3. I am on one of the teams making that fan game remake. you can check some new progress eye candy here, as i've just updated it earlier:
http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,5221.195.html (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,5221.195.html)

I would also..have to say that though i wasnt overly fond of the n64 games..I think that they'd be nice somehow ported to ps3 or psn network. But reworked so their controls were better..and the jumps werent so pin point accurate.  Also the dreamcast and segacd cancelled game would be nice to see those rehashed soemhow.

You knot what, remake Nocturne, with additional areas and a whole new 2nd castle (rather than an inverted castle)

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Special Ultimate Collector's Gold Edition)

I'd also like to see it with a playable doppelganger trio (Trevor, Sypha and Grant)

I'd prefer this to just Richter, seeing as he's being controlled anyway, it doesn't make sense to keep him as a playable character.

Keep Richter's gameplay and give it to Trevorclone :)

And also, have Maria switchable between playstyles. (SS/ PSP)

Both the Christopher games. Yes we have Adventure Rebirth but that's so different that I'm not calling it a remake but rather a re-imagining.

Both the Christopher games remade into one long adventure would be pretty awesome. Having to fight Drac at the halfway point, only to find out he survived, and keep trucking to the second fight, which is a massive 3 form beast like in CV III. With a heavy dose of input from the Belmont Legacy comics.

I'm not sure which game I'd want remade, but I would certainly want it to be balanced with good control over the main weapon, meaning like Super Castlevania 4 whip controls.

Like a lot of you, I'd say Simon's Quest. Also I'd like to see CV3 rebooted or remade. There are definitely a lot of other games that should be remade as well.

Simon's Quest due to the fact that the game hasn't aged well in terms of gameplay and music (only one piece was re-memorable and that was Bloody Tears).

Aw come on, you didn't dig the music inside the Mansions and the music once you get to the actual castle and the fight with Drac? Good stuff in there.

My favourite track actually goes to the password screen music.
Always found it so eerie when I was a kid... I really wish they'd use this as an in-game track

Can't say i really want to see any remakes. Simons Quest? Maybe even Dracula X. Give Richter the same ability as Simon in castlevania 4.

In all honesty they should just make a sequel to Super Castlevania IV, which would essentially be a remake of Simon's quest (Since SCIV canonically replaces CV1) but with SCIV controls, SCIV style graphics, and most importantly 8 way whipping and 'dangle' ability.

Where is CV going atm? If Konami are smart they will respark interest in the old canon, after SCIV has recently been released on Wii U VC, the time is now opportune. It's pretty much what Nintendo did with ALTTP>ALBW, make a direct sequel of a legendary game rather than remaking the legend which doesn't need it.... And yes, Simon's Quest sorely needs a remake.

oh yeah. now were talking

1. draculas curse - a modern day 2d or 3d reboot, keep the old 2d classicvania gameplay & mechanics that made it awesome though.

2. akumajou dracula x chi no rondo (rondo of blood) - time to make it accessible, for everyone, & not just PS ppl or emulators. keep the jap. audio, with English subtitles. hammer out whatever copyright & region restrictions that are stopping this from becoming a reality. its simply the best non NES classicvania, ever, (imo) & everyone should be able to at least try it.

3. simons quest - could definitely use an HD make over, translations included.

4. super castlevania 4 - ah what the heck, put all these games together on one or two discs, no digital only b.s.

they're all quintessential classicvania gold & should be welcome in any old school cv fans collection.

don't have to use passwords, lol, but manual (for simons quest) or auto saving between levels, would work for the rest.

Simons Quest had the most potential out of any CV game, particularly in terms of a remake.
Infact I really hope the old canon continues in 2d and any potentially new canon can be either 2d or 3d. Unless they Resurrect Resurrection or reimagine the older 3d titles.

I would actually like to see a Castlevania 1 & 2 remake as one cohesive game, with LoS style gameplay. The start of the game has you go through the castle, complete with stage setups mirroring the original stages. After killing Dracula, part 2 starts, and it becomes an open world adventure. Ideally with less climbing than LoS2. Damn that game has a lot of climbing!

I third wanting to see Legends remade.

DO it with modern sprites, in color, with optional arranged music. Keep all of the original levels but also make new ones (more stuff before the actual castle would be nice).

Get Ayami Kojima on art and Michiru Yamane on music.

Add in the Japanese manual's full backstory into the game (the English manual leaves some stuff out). Add voices for Sonia and the other characters and include more cutscenes.

Include 8-direction whipping. Allow Sonia to use the subweapons that she finds.

Add a Boss meter on the screen.

Bonus materials could include galleries of the original manuals, boxes, carts, and also new artwork. Throw in the original games as well.

You forgot one important element; A properly lengthened vampirekiller whip. It was just too short in Legends. Even shorter then what Christophorus had in his two gameboy adventures.

Yes to all of this. Even though I thought the game was okay, the level design left much to be desired, especially where the similar corridors are concerned.

Anyway, games I'd like to see remade would include Simon's Quest, Dracula's Curse, and Legends (changing the story of course).

I really want to see Harmony of Dissonance remade. The soundtrack is actually really good IMO but the quality leaves much to be desired. The difficulty needs to be balanced, as well. Juste is way too powerful in that game, or the enemies are too easy. I would also want to see more bosses from the other games. Slogra & Gaibon plus Medusa would be cool. There's even some LOS enemies that would be fun to see, like the Inner Dracula model or Riders of the Storm.

Simons' Quest, in 3D, developed by From Software (im thinking Dark Souls with Simon Belmont)

also Bloodlines as a full HD 2D remake
