Anime has lost one of its greatest craftsmen and innovators—one of the few remaining masters, now gone.

He died way before his time, and I lament to think of the many great future works we will now never see.

I wonder if he helped with 'Project A-Ko'.

He directed Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, and I think a couple others I haven't seen. It's amazing to think that Perfect Blue was his feature length directorial debut. That movie looks and feels like something that was made by a seasoned veteran, an aged talent.

Really, every movie fan—not just anime fan, but movie fan—ought to see Perfect Blue.

Ah!
I've seen both Perfect Blue as well as Tokyo Godfathers.
Both movies are awesome but the second one is a feel-good movie (at least it feels "It's a Wonderful Life"-ish at times), so I am kinda fond of it more.

Satoshi Kon was an amazing director. I greatly look forward to Dreaming Machine, I'm sure his last work will be brilliant like the rest of his movies.

Come to think of it, I still haven't seen Paranoia Agent.

He directed Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika

That's all he directed if you don't count the TV series Paranoia Agent unfortunately. He had a lot of work ahead of him.

If you haven't seen Millennium Actress, you should definitely see it. It was his best work in my opinion.
The dream reveals the reality, which conception lags behind. That is the horror of life - the terror of art.

For anyone interested, the VCinema podcast are taking listener contributions for a future Satoshi Kon/Kihachiro Kawamoto episode. 206-426-1390 is their voicemail number, and their email is vcinema(at)variedcelluloid(dot)net.

They're a podcast discussing Asian cinema, stemming from the defunct VCinema live Internet movie broadcast, which in turn stemmed from the Varied Celluloid review site and message board (relating to cult films). The name "VCinema" is a shortening of "Varied Celluloid," and is also an homage to V-Cinema (think OVA for live-action films).
