A couple people banded together and created a hack for Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow to replace the anime style artwork with Ayumi Kojima style artwork. Some of it was modified from existing official work. Some of it was original creations. Some of it was modified fanart. They are also going to hack POR to do the same thing. Here's the thread if you want to follow it:

Here's the hack:

I like Celia's look. Rather enticing which is what you'd expect from a woman cult leader.

Be sure to check out Acediez’ full portraits of the three villains: http://acediez.tumblr.com/

Portrait of Ruin is going to be a lot of work, since there’s little existing stuff to work from. But we’ll figure something out. I’ve already got something for Dracula, and I’m currently working on Death.

Amazing.

I read the PoR issues in the linked forum. For Stella i guess  you could use Lady Nō artwork as base but no clue for Loretta (and Vincent)

Soma's face looks a tad too grey here, some palette trickery might be needed.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.
^^
You are now reading this in Robert Belgrade's voice.

Then Lords of Shadow 2 just takes a big, semi-solid, smelly, pea-green dump all over everything.

Might be easier to run a limited palette/pattern dither in Photoshop set to the DS' palette limitations and then implement the portraits. Letting the DS data do it natively is much more likely to cause palette and shaping shenanigans.

(for reference, DS can support up to 256 colors on any one palette, and can have up to 16 unique palettes rendering onscreen at once)

For instance:

Your Genya has a lot of shade blotching from the color limiting (which I'm assuming is done natively by the DS emulator, not sure what you've done to the images prior to insertion).

Compared to this Genya, restricted to only 64 colors with a uniform pattern dither. Those blotches are all but nonexistent now and everything looks a bit cleaner.

For some reason, Dawn of Sorrow had strongly restricted palettes for its portraits. As far as I know, we were only able to work with the colors of the existing portraits. That is also why Soma has a rather grey skintone, iirc. This limitation is not present in Portrait of Ruin.

Give me the palettes and the dimensions for portraits and I'll work them all to fit and clean them up to optimize the colors.

You’ll want to send to results to ShadowOne333 , who handles the insertion of the portraits.

Hm, certainly way better than I could make.

If I may ask, how were you able to copy Ayami's style to make these portraits? I've tried and failed. Many times.
