Title: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Jorge D. Fuentes on May 07, 2011, 09:15:40 AM
Hey guys.
There's a new forum feature that I've stealthily installed... and that's the Member Awards and Achievements.
But, I need your help.  Yes, you.

The table below shows some of the awards/achievements I've created.  However, you guys can help by pitching for new categories and awards, and pick a small picture in the format given (it's usually 24x24) for the mini-award.

Awards can be based on post count, or they can be individually assigned (by mods) upon request.  I encourage you guys to be creative and pick Castlevania style sprites for the award.
If you think someone should be nominated for an award, send a PM to any one of the mods (or myself) with whom should receive an award, and why.

Awards show up on the left side of a person's information when they make a post (the mini-graphic does, anyway).

Feel free to use graphics from any CV title that has sprites.  Let's make this a more fun place.  :)

Even though I'm doing the   when I hear about Medals and achievements on an internet forum *ahem* immature *ahem* I guess cool additions are always fun.

I should totally get that masturbat.. *ahem* master debater award.
How about a "Thread Necromancer" award? Not like I encourage thread necromancy, but that could be more like a penalty for people who resurrect long-dead topics. Since you already offered an award for trolling and all. Should use the Death sprite for that, obviously.

An interesting idea. I kind of like it.

You need an icon for "Awards" though, instead of the text link on our posts.

I think we need a "Prunyuu!" award solely for Gunlord.

Crisis says that too, though.

Yeah I gotta see about how to edit that, Uzo.

I think we all should see how this goes. I'm game. I wonder if you should make an award for spammers just so we all know who they are when they crop up unexpectedly.

Awards can be positive or negative, (haha just like Trophies/Achievements).

Uzo, I edited the profile.  Now awards have a nice classic CV icon instead of the text.  Fix'd! :D

I don't think it should animate. I mean, it is the only animating one. It kinda brings a lot of attention to itself with all the flashing.

I thought about using the Ecclesia chests but they're huge.
It sort of does go with your signature of IGA though, Thernz. :P

EDIT: It doesn't animate now...

This list is not complete without the original Online CV Community honor:

I totally remember that... but isn't that a CVCorner award?  I don't want to rip them off, y'know.
Even so, what honor would be worthy of that award, though?

But there is only one Gunlord.
There should be a TOO HOT FOR TV award for Successor-sama.

Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements

Here are some other awards I was thinking of:

The Town Crier - Updates the forum with many news, often not Castlevania news (we're talking current events, etc.).
The Icon for it would be Abram (Belmont) from Order of Ecclesia.

The Pervert - Sneaks in any and all innuendo into threads that he/she can.
The Icon for it would be the Succubus sprite (could be from any version).

The Great Defender - Cannot resist defending his favorite game/series/OS/religion/etc.
The Icon for it would be the Skeleton Samurai from the Dawn of Sorrow games (you know, the annoying one with the invincibility shield)

Feel free to chime in with others.  I can update the list and you can pitch for a mod to assign it to a person.

I may be being a crusty old vagina (likely), but I'd be pissed if users who weren't around during the SitePowerUp and/or ezboard days (2000–2001) were to get the Super-Old Dungeonite award. :o

And with that said, I think perhaps Inccubus should get one o' dem, heh.

Oh, and Jorgey-poo should have one, too.

I totally remember that... but isn't that a CVCorner award?  I don't want to rip them off, y'know.
Even so, what honor would be worthy of that award, though?

CVC is a graveyard now, sadly. Redrum has opened a new forum called Konami Central and everyone at CVC relocated accordingly. I don't really want to say much more because talking about forum politics usually ends in somebody getting pissed off, but if redrum gets upset for me using it, I'll simply give him the same reason I gave you: Forum tradition. He shouldn't be bothered by that. If you don't want to use the original GIF, you could re-do it in SotN sprites, do a custom sprite, or even use the flea man and torch from LoI/CoD to create a massive 3d version for them to put in their sig!

The original recipient of the Golden Hunchback was Bloodreign back in Fall 2003. Morgoth and redrum bestowed it upon him for simply being a postwhore if memory serves. However, there was much more to it than that: Though Bloodreign was (and still is) a prolific contributor, every post he made - even if it was no more than a single word - was worth reading. Those sentiments still ring true even to this day.

I think the Golden Hunchback should be "all of the above", the mack-daddy of CV awards, the real answer to the question of "What is a man?!" if you will (far more than just a miserable little pile of secrets.) How we should go about determining the recipient for this award is still up for debate; maybe hold a popular vote? Though I do have a rather low opinion of voting contests; one needs only to go to GameFAQs to see why.

In that case
Maybe there could be one for fans that only support the new, rebooted timeline & pay no mind to the traditional saga. (icon can be.. a combat cross sprite?)
Or one for fans that cosplay with no shame.
Or one that is specific to lurkers? (be it subforum-specific, or otherwise)
Or one that specializes in programming/designing hacks, Castlevania-related or otherwise
Another one could be for those that don't necessarily enjoy the games themselves, but certain aspects of the games only (artwork, music, etc.) this could be iffy to determine tho.
A smartass award, for those that think they know everything about CV just from playing a few games (most likely ROMs) & watching videos on youtube
Or.. one for fans that have been supporting Castlevania since the 80's (this may be difficult to determine as well)
also... how about a "Brutally Honest" award, for those that are harsh critics & don't sugarcoat their opinions, be it directed at games, artwork, fan-stuff, etc.

for icons,
Lurkers- Peeping Eye (https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages3.wikia.nocookie.net%2F__cb20080815115255%2Fcastlevania%2Fimages%2F0%2F05%2FPeepingeye.gif3&hash=2d1718558130cf1a946258788695f04a)

Smartasses- Jonathan Morris

Highwind Dragoon qualifies for Town Crier for his incessant yahoo stories

Nagumo can also get the Great Defender..
Kale gets a Permanent Resident possibly

Well, I don't think almost anybody on this forum has been here SO long. Maybe, like, 5 members who still post.  I've posted here for a HELL of a long time, I don't remember when I joined, probably some time before Dawn of Sorrow was released, which should be... 2004 or 2005.

I may be being a crusty old vagina (likely), but I'd be pissed if users who weren't around during the SitePowerUp and/or ezboard days (2000–2001) were to get the Super-Old Dungeonite award. :o

I almost broke down and cried when Bloodreign told me that the archived topics from the very beginnings of the Forumplanet years had been deleted a few years back. I wasn't around at the time, but hot damn was it entertaining to browse the discussions you people had. My favorite was the one where ya'll were trying to figure out the mathematical formula for homosexuality. As someone who was an engineering major in college, I thought it was quite possibly the greatest thing in the history of the intarwebz. I still hate myself for never saving it to my hard drive despite all the chances I had.

Oh, and Jorgey-poo should have one, too.
I agree with this.  You and Jorge have been here longer than just about anybody else.  I've been coming here since 2001, and when I joined back then, you and Jorge were already old farts.

Yay! this topic has become a reminiscing discussion!  ;D

I quit posting here in 2004 and went elsewhere to places like TEK/CVC, ICVD, & TP's place, citing "CVD/RSU is full of idiots" as my main reason for doing so, no doubt to due to the ignorant elitism that is all too prevalent in college-aged individuals (not to mention driving PFG nuts with all my liberal drivel. :P) Attempting to become an officer in the Marine Corps after graduation really opened up my eyes, thankfully.

Oh yeah, PFG, I still remember your "You Now Prossess Dracula's Spell Checker" sig.  :)

Anywho, I came back here because (among other reasons) I'm far from the obsessive-compulsive forum lurker/poster I once was, often checking topics 8-9 times a day to see if someone responded to my posts. Now that real life has finally claimed me (sort of,) my interests here go little further than LoS, reminiscing on all the time I wasted here during college, and poking fun at the people here who waste even more time in the revolving door of fan speculation discussions.

I'm not sure if I posted there, actually—maybe once or twice at most. I lurked a number of times, but I found the system really sheeitty, so I posted at Konami of America's board instead. When CV Dungeon made the switch to a more standard, modern board system, I was aaaaaall over it.

AND NOW LOOK AT US. :D Whittled to reminiscing once a month because ICVD crawls along at a snail's pace and most of the original regulars don't give a rat's ass anymore. It's really weird that I post here more than I do there.

Awards shouldn't be made for every thing. It shouldn't be a common occurrence, and should be something worth obtaining. Otherwise, they lose their value and the novelty will wear off very quickly.
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements

I don't think it'll become too common.. most people join this forum & will probably make a few hundred posts and then disappear after like a year, if that. Only the ones that have stuck around for several years should be eligible for awards.

I remember an old forum I used to go to a few years back had a whole "veteran" system for people who'd been around for ages. That had its drawbacks but also its benefits, but IMO a system where only people who've been around for over a year would be eligible for a little reward wouldn't be objectionable at all, at least as far as I can see. :o

I haven't implemented any new ones, nor has anyone sent me PMs regarding nominating any people.

Way I see it, someone (other than yourself) should send a mod a PM regarding nomination of someone, or it should be post-count based (for some particular ones).

Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Jorge D. Fuentes on May 17, 2011, 05:04:16 PM
Actually yes, now that you mention it.

The 'large' sized award (the one that shows up when you click on the awards an user has), is a 128x24 rectangle, like this:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inverteddungeon.com%2Fjorgefuentes%2Fimages3%2Ftemplate1.png&hash=48bed56933f244bd9a80957d0179850c)

On this area, you insert one of the four colored frames (courtesy of Aria of Sorrow's Soul Colors) making sure it is aligned with the right side:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inverteddungeon.com%2Fjorgefuentes%2Fimages3%2Ftemplate2.png&hash=fd0d666403968e962151393ae2c4be6d)

On the left side of the large award, aligned on the left, super-impose a 24x24 graphic (or smaller).  The largest graphic (24x24) will be super-imposed over the award frame.  This is OK.

On the inside of the frame, you insert white text.  The font is Tahoma, Size 7.  Disable antialiasing on the font, otherwise the mini-text will come out slightly blurry.

For the 'small' awards (the ones that are visible in posts), they have variable sizes, shown below:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inverteddungeon.com%2Fjorgefuentes%2Fimages3%2Ftemplate3.png&hash=73ebf14b66ce051287f50f2a5cc8a568)

I have not yet used the largest-sized award (32x32) for the small awards, so I don't know if that one might end up too big-looking (and because I did not want to over-crop it to fit the larger award).  Usually, the graphic is cropped at the bottom to form a 24x24 square if you're going to use it on the large award frame, like how I did with the NES Zombie and the Retro Gamer award.

Please stick to Castlevania sprites as much as possible.

The finished result looks like this:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcastlevaniadungeon.net%2Fforums%2Fawards%2F4.png&hash=cf32c68614fcb0cc1e1e5c1bce2a0bb3) <----large award
The little award looks like this:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcastlevaniadungeon.net%2Fforums%2Fawards%2F4-mini.png&hash=f01971992dcdc3335303bfd05e0ddb30) <---small award (16x32 sprite used for this one)

Use a palettized GIF or an AlphaChannel PNG to achieve the transparency.

Ok, I think I got it down, though for some reason Photoshop keeps making the text size variable. It's odd, but probably due to the cut&paste process.

Heyyyyy those are pretty good!
I don't know how I would implement the "lurker" and "one time show" ones though... I mean, out of the thousands of members this forum has, only like 5% actually post, and the other 95% are either dead or they're One-Time Shows.

I'll put 'em up though and should the opportunity arise, I'll award someone with 'em.

LOL @ the ICVD one.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsindra.brinkster.net%2Fmisc%2FSprites%2Fdefender_award.gif&hash=6d7a4faa95397895914e9e8c5b2de6ef) The Great Defender - Cannot resist defending his favorite game/character/series/OS/religion/etc. at any and all opportunities.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsindra.brinkster.net%2Fmisc%2FSprites%2Fhack_award.gif&hash=864c8d3663c5769768786d8d2c76b3fd) Hack Master - A master at making new creations out of old parts that would make Dr. Frankenstein proud.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsindra.brinkster.net%2Fmisc%2FSprites%2Fdefender_guard.gif&hash=283425da31a5adfc2953e3dff75a803a)

I also advocate the Golden Hunchback as a cross-over award - To be awarded only to those who represent the pride of the Castlevania fandom as a whole and for years of dutiful service to the overall Castlevania community. I might suggest that this perhaps be given out once a year at an appointed time after the entire community votes on who should receive the award.

Here are the differences between a debater and a defender:

1. The debater is an opinionated person who argues their point in a proper vay, regarding a wide varierty of subjects.  A defender is defending one aspect of something he's a fan of.  A defender is essentially a fanboy.

2. The debater uses logic and reasoning to the best of his ability for arguing his points.  A defender does not necessarily do this (and most do not).

3. The debater can and will argue about anything.  The defender only does this when it's an object of his/her fandom.

We're in a message forum so it's likely we all have something we will defend.

However, there are people who will participate in any debate, because they like to present their points and evidence on a subject.  This subject they may or may not be thoroughly familiar with.

Someone with a "Great Defender" award will stick up for, say, Lords of Shadow, if the game is being bashed.
Someone with a "Master Debater" will argue about, say, the way the USA should handle torture, whether or not he's a fan or not of torture.  It doesn't mean he/she 'defends' torture.

I suppose a Great Defender could also be a Master Debater, though.  And vice-versa.  But they're not the same.

And yeah I thought they were too similar when it was being pitched as an idea... but I put it up anyway.

Why does a Fleaman for ICVDers seem so fitting?

Only thing that would make it better would be a gigantic-ass image of Beezelbub (I always assumed the misspelling was intentional and to emphasize the "BEES," but maybe it was just an honest mistake) simultaneously doing Goatse and "The Pic" (or, Tubgirl to the layperson).

Got a new one to propose as well, separate from the Music Fanatic, as it denotes a love of music and posting about it, but doesn't really fit for those of our forum who are actual game music remixers and musicians, so I made up this new one:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsindra.brinkster.net%2Fmisc%2FSprites%2Fconductor_award.gif&hash=ece0ae87a9222111aae91881b0ee0ce9) - Chief Conductor: A great musician and composer of various melodies both original and game-oriented

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsindra.brinkster.net%2Fmisc%2FSprites%2Fconductor_ab.gif&hash=849fa635af17fda85bc476ac01513a7a)

If this is an acceptable award, I nominate Jorge for his various MIDI re-compositions and Chernabogue for his directing of the upcoming Vampire Variations album.

However, I don't think "Unfazable" is a word.  I know what you're trying to say, though.  Perhaps Unfazed is better.

Yeah, Inccubus has been around for a long time. :) I don't know if he was around quite as early as me, but at this point, what difference does a few months or a year or some such make? :P He showed up on ICVD not that long ago too. He should get the ICVD award.

You guys could make extra awards for the oldOLDOLD members, haha. The litmus test would be:

For an ezboard member: Do you know who Jimmer is?

For the very first CVD forum: Do you know who Technocop is?

Haha :D
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements

Oh god, I was around when there was talk of Jimmer.....but never knew him. He's become a legend in the lore of the respective forums. Technocop was before my time, though.

A great question would be: Were you there when the EZboard forum went tits up and turned Jesuspoloosa? Good times.

Tina, I don't remember if I signed up for it or was just a lurker at the time, but I clearly remember when it got hacked to hell and Christ-ified.

Gunlord, I'm sure if you made a topic about polling all the knowledge of the Castlevania fan forums and such, people would be more than happey to share. Then you could write up a timeline, if you ask for general timeframes of events.

Oooo...there's another award I just thought of. "Scribe".

And if you ignore the furry junk and everything past 2005 or so, this hits most of the key points:

Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Succubus on October 18, 2011, 07:06:10 PM
It didn't. Like I said, you should ignore the furry shit and anything post-2005. The Clockwork Mansion isn't an old Castlevania forum/site. It was just something Darkmoon whipped together to go along with his Castlevania-related sprite comics. Later it became the forum for the Inverted Dungeon web site when it split from the actual Inverted Castlevania Dungeon forum. Then it merged with more web comics.

Well, unless you think the Inverted Dungeon is an "old" Castlevania site. Seems like just yesterday to me, and I don't know if it was ever all that popular beyond some ICVDers checking it out. And it's dead these days.

Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Abnormal Freak on October 18, 2011, 11:11:49 PM
I'm kinda sadz my position as a staff member ain't listed on the ED page. :( IIRC, the Bootleg Dungeon came about 'cos Dev and I were chattin' it up on AIM, and we decided to do a new board like the original but with less restrictions. So then D'moon came aboard, he and Dev were pretty much the tech dudes who actually got things done, BUT I WAS AN ADMIN AND ICVD CO-FOUNDER :O until I pissed Dev off by spamming the shit out of everything and I think even banning him.

Ha ha, well, in hindsight, I kinda wrote myself out of that history for being a stupid asshole. :) Don't even know why I did it; I was 17 and bored. It probably had something to do with me requesting something with the Acmlm board, and Dev not complying (and me being too stupid to figure it out on my own), so I went on a tirade.

icon = maria - musician - awarded to those that like to make music, like remakes or new songs

icon = ??? (don't know) - director - someone who makes and posts a lot of vids such as on youtube

icon = merchant person like renon - those who are willing to sell stuff like cv merchandise

system needs to be tweaked to be based on a feedback system or post count.... whatever...

This system only works on PM's which isn't very effective since I've yet to get the Modder Achievement and I Joined the forums JUST to post my CV2 Remake.
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Jorge D. Fuentes on October 24, 2011, 06:01:58 PM
Your CV2 remake?  I've not heard of this.  You've not posted stuff about it aside from that one sprite.  No videos, no code posts.  Compare that to metroidquest, Esco, Inccubus, and others...

There's no need to do 'em on Post Count, as that's how you get the Titles (Legendary Hunter, Master Hunter, Hunter in Training, etc.)
It would be redundant to do 'em like that.

Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Thy Gory Rory on October 24, 2011, 08:56:09 PM
We can't nominate ourselves for the particular awards, correct? Well, hypothetically if I were to have any they'd most likely be "the lurker" (I barely post, mostly just read through threads) and/or "the retro gamer" (95% of all my posts are about older games).

Don't worry, this is all just hypothetical, I'm not demanding anything and I'm still quite new so I'm sure I need to "earn" these a bit more...

Hmm... How about a CVWiki award, guys?
If only we had a Castlevania Wiki page for this forum... Maybe we should have this award for those who help with the CVWiki page by doing translations, updating news, etc...? At least that's what i think.

I knew I was not the only one thinking that.

I totally remember that... but isn't that a CVCorner award?  I don't want to rip them off, y'know.
Even so, what honor would be worthy of that award, though?

That golden hunchback thing. I was thinking would not a Morningstar power-up be appropriate for that kind of title?

You know, we could use an award for certain people who'd..."criticize" certain things at the drop of a hat, sort of like a reverse-The Great Defender (as Master Debater sometimes doesn't apply under certain circumstances), but I have no idea as to what the title should be. For the icon, I think Dario would be good.
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Pfil on June 10, 2013, 09:43:02 PM
I think I'm interested in the idea but I don't quite follow.
Edit: I mean, "what did you mean by criticize certain things at the drop of the hat"?
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: VladCT on June 10, 2013, 09:48:17 PM
I gave a clue on what I meant by "criticize" by saying that Dario would be good for the icon, but I guess that wasn't obvious enough.
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Pfil on June 10, 2013, 10:10:48 PM
I don't quite remember Dario's role in DoS.
I guess you mean like when people hate a game just because they don't like it and they take every chance they can to say something bad about it. That's like kind of a reverse-The Great Defender.
That would be cool.
We can nominate TGR for of that award, thanks to his endless and irrational hating of Game Boy games.
"The Great Denier" could be the name, perhaps? Or something like that?
Now, it's in Jorge's hands  :)

Those are AWESOME, Sindra, great job!
Having said that, I have a few reservations:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsindra.brinkster.net%2Fmisc%2FSprites%2Funmovable.png&hash=93449c23325edf5566734b7b7e3f5d5e) - Unmovable Object: Will make a staunch stand on one subject and never, ever budge.

This is quite similar to "The Great Defender".  Tell me how it's different and we'll see what we can do about it. :D
Also, if you're using the term as a reference to the "Unstoppable Force" paradox, it's "Immovable" not "Unmovable".  Although both words are synonyms to one another, 'immovable' works for objects, while 'unmovable' refers to positions/opinions.  In this case, I think Immovable is a better term for the Golem.

Oh man, I can see this one.
On a related note, I really have to see about making some kind of sarcasm emoticon....

This one is almost similar to the Retro Gamer, though I can see how it can be different.  We'll have to look out for these characters when nominating 'em.

This one seems similar to "The Peacekeeper".  Or is this defending the community 'here' against people from the outside?  Wouldn't that require people to know them elsewhere?  I'm confused a little about this one.
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements
Post by: Sindra on June 11, 2013, 07:19:34 PM
I can change it to "Immovable"

In regards to The Purist....you can be a a retro gamer while still being okay with the series moving forward with new ideas. A "Purist" refuses to accept any games past a certain date/type/gameplay change regardless of how favorable they might be to others. Take for example me; I don't own any Sonic games that aren't for a Sega console, so I guess I'm a Purist in that regard.

The Guardian is meant for those that come to the Dungeon's defense as a whole, I suppose. The Peacekeeper is able to defuse situations, while the Guardian will end up telling people to kindly GTFO when the offender is being an extra special asshole and the acts of the Peacekeeper don't work. (think passive ability as opposed to defensive ability) But if it's too closely related, that's fine and can be disregarded.

Mine and Bigworms credentials for the award would be our ongoing work on AOD + Bigworm's work on his project. Hmm... the forum won't let that pic resize to fit your profile?

In that case, here you go.  I made an avatar-sized icon out of it.

I don't think you realize how long you have had to have been part of the dungeon boards to be a super-old dungeonite.
You'd have to be from the days of "The Puritan", so that means:

-From the days when the board was a threaded messageboard in classicgaming.com. (dates around 1995-2000)
-From the days when the board was an EZBoard messageboard in classicgaming.com. (dates around 2000-2004)
-From the days when the board was a Forumplanet board in gamespy.com... but this one is pushing it, as the FP board lasted a while. (dates around 2004-2007)
(these dates are not accurate but they're kinda what I can come up with from what I recall)

Anyone from only the days of SMF on castlevaniadungeon.net is not -that- old.  At least, in comparison.
I suppose, in time, the SMF peeps will be considered 'SuperOld Dungeonites', but not right now.

So right now, "SuperOld Dungeonite" is anyone who posted from the EZBoard forum and earlier.

Hmmm I think me and Gunlord were here around the same time, or maybe he joined a little later... I've been around from the time between Aria of Sorrow and Dawn or Innocence. Probably 2004-2005. Used to talk to this guy named Clockwork Butterfly about a HoD fanfiction I used to write. I don't remember when he left. Gunlord is here from 2006 I believe?

Well, when i joined the forum, you were all ready here, but for Gunlord, i can't remember well, but he must have been 2006 or mid 2005.

I used to enter the Castlevania Dungeon since the beginning of the past decade, like in 2002 or so, but I noticed the forum some years ago, maybe 2 or 3, and my daily reads were increasing until some months ago I decided to join.

You know, I'd like to create a Cunning Linguist award since we have quite a few people fluent in multiple languages here, and to accompany the Master Debater award of course, but sadly Charlotte's already used for the latter. Anyone have any idea as to who or what the icon should be?
Title: Re: CVForum Awards & Achievements

@Shiroi:  That's good thinking...

...however, there were forums before this forum.

Some posts can be found on the Wayback Machine, but the old stuff?  It's probably lost in the ether of the internet.
However, the EZBoard was set up by someone who blocked archiving robots using robots.txt... so none of the Ezboard posts are archived at the Wayback Machine, sadly.

The Old Forumplanet board can be found, but only thread titles are visible; threads themselves cannot be perused (sadly):
Let me take you on a ride back in time... (http://web.archive.org/web/20051126135753/http://www.forumplanet.com/ClassicGaming/castlevania/forum.asp?fid=3691)

This is the last page that can still be topic-read before the Wayback Machine decides to not even view pages anymore... though I admit I'm not savvy with the web archive.
I think I spot Cecil-Kain in there. :o

Now for the earliest versions of the forum's SMF version.
This is when I took over as Admin.  It's also when we switched to SMF which is easily web-crawlable, which means topics can actually be read.
Take me back to 2007... (http://web.archive.org/web/20071011001455/http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/forums/index.php?board=1.0)
I think I spot Dark Nemesis posts around then. :D

Ah, good times...

@VladCT: It'd have to be a hero whom we KNOW to be multi-lingual... sadly, the only one I can think of is Eric Lecarde, as he's clearly from "Segovia, Spain" yet speaks fluent English in PoR.  Anyone else, it would be pure speculation.

This is when we have moved from the old forum, can't remember the reason:http://web.archive.org/web/20070906005450/http://www.forumplanet.com/classicgaming/castlevania/forum.asp?fid=3691&p=3 (http://web.archive.org/web/20070906005450/http://www.forumplanet.com/classicgaming/castlevania/forum.asp?fid=3691&p=3)and then everything went purple and finally left it and made it where we are now.

Man you were definitely here before september 2007. You were on CVC before then, too. I still remember prunyuu being worldfiltered there to 'tickle me asshole'.

Redrum-sama....

I think you'll find a lot of dungeonites here will have September 07 as their join date because many made brand new accounts here after Exodus 2.0. But they're still O.G.'s from the ancient days.

My happiest memory of the oldOLD(er) Dungeon was when some guy became enraged that Bloodreign had the audacity to move his marginally Cv-related topic to off topic, and tried to call him out with a topic titled THANK YOU FOR BEING AN ASS.

Also any time Diplocephalus was yelled at for being a butt makes me nostalgic.

I can't remember the name of the guy was who had a badger as his avatar. I remember he had music he composed in his sig which was pretty ballin'. He was always chill.

It's probably weird for Jorge-sensei to see the regulars of the Dungeon forums radically change so much over time.

Call it a hunch (or my detective powers), but I have a suspicion that some of those oldies still around, but in another incarnation.
Perhaps even closer than before.  Some ex-troublemakers, too.

Ah yes, I remember about CVC.  I think Serio was, at the time, fed up with the touchy-feely prunyuu thing that was happening, so he wordfiltered it.  But don't quote me on that since I did not really visit CVC.  I'm sure someone else could enlighten us.  Perhaps Bloodreign or someone else from that time and place.

Yes, "2007" was the exodus.
The reason for the exodus was because IGN/Gamespy was going to stop all free gaming websites, so Kurt's Castlevania Dungeon was going to lose its hosting.
This happened throughout the course of six or so months, from what I recall.  Eventually IGN/Gamespy finally called it quits on the Dungeon.  Thankfully Kurt and I had assorted backups of the website and forum, respectively.
Gamespy was kind enough to give us, for a time, some temporary hosting and helped us migrate from Forumplanet to SimpleMachines.  They handled the conversion of the member tables, from I recall.  A guy named "GSILufiaGuy" migrated whatever could be migrated, so a lot of the forum managed to get salvaged on the move to the SMF format.

When the websites finally started to die off, Kurt found hosting with a friend on Kontek.net, and we've been there ever since.  So has Hardcore Gaming 101, Kurt's other site.

This is why most old members will have their account date for sometime circa September 2007.  That was the official switch to SMF I think.

@Pfil: I'm still one with the opinion that "Belnades" is just Engrish or mispronounced/mistranslated "Fernandez".  Carrie's boss lineup in CV64's Castle Center indicates family ties to the Belnades family, and Carrie's HomingProjectile is very similar to Sypha's Homing Lightning Bolts from CV3.  I have nothing to back up my theory, and I think Koutei disproved it once, but it's a nice thought. :P  But you're right in that she 'could' be bilingual... thing is, just because your last name sounds like it's from someplace, it doesn't mean you speak that language.

Indeed. I'm part french (from my grandma's part of the family) but I don't speak french.
But Carrie has always gave me the feeling that she is indeed from Spain. I guess that was the original intention but that then everything got lost in translation. But I agree with the theory that Sypha was also Fernandez, and that then they changed that because of the bad translation.

Slowpoke Christopher (Icon: Christopher's sprite from CV:A): Essentially, the idea is that people who post certain news in a thread while it's been already posted a couple of pages ago, or people who come into a thread and are like: "Hey guys, what did I miss?" get this award.

So, as I said on another thread...
I'm beginning to think there needs to be an award using the Chronomage sprite, and it needs to be given to Shiroi, "The Time Master who controls (and lately has to frequently postpone) the time allotted for contests"

Maybe everyone else on the forum needs an award using the stopwatch sprite, because we're "Frequently late for contests on the Dungeon Forum", or the Rare Ghost sprite because we "Rarely enter on time for contests on the Dungeon Forum."

  ;) :D

This is a both a suggestion for the sake of humor (of course!  Life can interfere with our plans and that's no crime!) but also for serious.  I mean, why not?!  At the very least, Shiroi should get the "Time Master" award.  If it's not hard to implement the stopwatch or Rare Ghost award, I'll even volunteer to go back through the contests and see which of us said we'd enter and never actually did.
