I hear Data Discs are some of the best in the biz, though they only do vinyl records and I think that's crap, because I'm still about collecting CDs. But their methods of remastering game soundtracks is really cool, whereas Konami's vinyl OSTs through Mondo are just CD masters put to wax.

I'm not sure if all are reprints. On the sound side, according to some people who did quick comparisons, they increased loudness, which makes this set sound a bit worse, but it's probably fine for most people.

Both sets are still available on Amazon Japan. Note that they sell the GFCA reprints (not the Konamistyle exclusives LC prints).

I think a Castlevania music set should be externalised. There are companies who do this for a living (Clarice Disc, Wave Master, SuperSweep, EGG...) - but so far they haven't done much for Konami. I can only remember the 3 Konami Famicom Sound Chronicle albums, and there's no Castlevania on those.

EDIT - for those who only care about Castlevania of the FDS/FC/NES, get FAMICOM 20TH ANNIVERSARY ORIGINAL SOUND TRACKS VOL.3 which is still widely available from internet shops. It's a separate recording by Scitron and it's the cleanest you can get for cheap. There are also other good FC games on that release.

How'd you end up getting ahold of him for the interview? That's something I need to keep in mind for future vids...."Oh right, I can probably just ask devs/writers this shit".

I saw him posting on Twitter about Snatcher and was like, OOH! This dude is the guy who wrote the translation/localization for SotN! I asked him if he'd be up for answering questions and he said sure. I DMed him and asked if he would be ok with me recording our conversation, he said sure. I explained I would be using it for Youtube. Initially he was kinda wishy washy on whether or not I could use the recorded audio but ultimately he agreed to it.

Gave it a try on Linux and it seems to work through Lutris and Proton. Controller isn't being picked up so I had to resort to using antimicroX to map the keyboard commands.

Sorry about the controller issues but im glad you got it working on Linux, that's great!

I absolutely loved this!! (Aquarius has been on repeat lately. XD)  I really hope you keep putting these together, as I’ve come to really look forward to them! Please do Castlevania Legends at one point because that soundtrack is so underrated and that version of Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer need more love…

Are these two collections still available anywhere? I was broke when they came out, now I have monies.

Or maybe, you know, someone could provide me with a rip or something.

Was it ever affirmed that it's just reused CD masters for the previously released stuff? So Dracula's Curse still has sound effects, the GBA games still sound like muffly garbage, all that fun stuff? Would be nice if Konami ever redid all the soundtracks from scratch or licensed them to a label who cares. Ha!

Are these done by grabbing the chip data and converting it to MIDI?
I know that for the ones I used to do, I did it by hand by hearing each channel and notating it accordingly.

I have downloaded the game and for some reason the jump doesn't work. The button works fine on my gamepad and inside the game menu, but when i press it on the game, the character won't jump.

The program is giving some controllers a real problem for some reason.  And its random as well  Try a few things; make sure you have the xbox360 drivers installed and this is an odd one, but some people have had to go into the USB Game Controllers screen, and under the advanced tab, select their controllers from the drop down.  My gaming rig was like that as well until it was selected from the drop down and worked just fine.
