I am currently searching for a book. Or rather, a particular style of book.

I want a book that is in the style of Indiana Jones or Uncharted without actually being from those series.

Here's a simple breakdown of what I want:

1) Hidden Treasure
2) Ancient ruins (preferably with death traps)
3) Archaeologist Protaganist (or similar)
4) Action and fights
5) Witty Banter

My local bookstores blend the "Mystery" and "Adventure" genres into a single section, making it painfully irritating and difficult to find what I want among the planet sized piles of whodunnits, and the local library isn't any better (even their websearch is horribly limited).

I keep telling myself that a book like this shouldn't be THAT hard to find.

And yet it is.

Halp.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Own it. Read it. Loved it.

What about The Face in the Abyss and The Last Egyptian? I guess The Man-Eaters of Tsavo might interest you, even though it's more of a guy's account of how he killed two man-eating lions and less adventure amongst ancient ruins.

If you're interested in any movies along the same vein, I recommend Tarzan and the Golden Lion, and the Secret of the Incas if you can find it. The latter has a very slow start, but it inspired Raiders of the Lost Ark in one or two ways:

Choose Your Own Adventure books.

Castlevania II the novel (it's really bad though... :p )

I do believe some of Clive Cussler's earlier books have what you're looking for.

King Solomon's Mines.

Ah! You stole my suggestion. You bastard.  ;D
Also by Henry Rider Haggard, "Montezuma's Daughter". Beautiful adventure story with some historical background.
If you want more classic adventure books, you should also read the "Pirates of Malaysia" series by Emilio Salgari. I remember reading and loving them when I was younger.
Also, "Congo" by Michael Crichton. Who said modern authors can't write good adventure books?

I was just about to suggest this.
