Seriously people, run a Castlevania character through this and let's see how much of a Mary Sue they are.

http://katfeete.net/writing/suestart.php

Max score is 295. The higher the score, the more of a Mary Sue is the character.

Dracula is 82.

Full summary:

Quote
Dracula is only a little like you. He is so impossibly hip that he has difficulty seeing over his own pelvis; he'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. He'd have to be pretty dense to miss the signs that he is destined for great things; he can hardly take a walk without tripping over a sword in a stone or a mysterious old woman wanting to tell his fortune. He's had more than his fair share of hard knocks, and probably spends more time than he ought moaning about it. And you've been sparing with the free handouts: whatever he gains, he's worked for.

You may have let yourself get a little too close to Dracula. Maybe he's you as you wish you were, or maybe you're just afraid no one will like him and are trying to give him a free ride. Have some confidence in your writing! Dracula is a good character. Give him room to be himself before you stifle him.

Score Breakdown
Mirror, Mirror: I Love Him, I Let Him Go 8
Beware the Monks of Cool: James Dean, James Dean... 26
'Tis Your Destiny: Stars For His Eyes
Oh, the Trauma: Angst R Us 13
Momma Loves Me Best: Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child 8
Total: 82

Yeah, I don't know what that explanation's talking about either.

Isaac is only a little like you. He is so impossibly hip that he has difficulty seeing over his own pelvis; he'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. He may have sometimes thought that he was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. He's got no emotional scars to speak of. And he's gotten no slack from you.

In general, you care deeply about Isaac, but you're smart enough to let him stand on his own, without burdening him with your personal fantasies or propping him up with idealization and over-dramatization. Isaac is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of him.

Really cool page. It's more cool when you test your own fictional characters. I ran the test on the main protagonist of my sci-fi novel, Dan. Turned out to be quite accurate.

Quote
Dan is suspiciously similar to you as you'd like to be. He may be popular, or he may not, but no matter what he's impossible to ignore; he stands out... just the way you always wanted to. He may have sometimes thought that he was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. He's got no emotional scars to speak of. And you've been pretty kind to him, always ready to intercede on his behalf and give him a nice easy victory.

You may have let yourself get a little too close to Dan. Maybe he's you as you wish you were, or maybe you're just afraid no one will like him and are trying to give him a free ride. Have some confidence in your writing! Dan is a good character. Give him room to be himself before you stifle him.

Dan is quite handsome, strong and intelligent and gets quite a lot of attention and praise. But it doesn't make him happy. He's more introverted than me and lived through more trauma than me (parents killed at an early age, similarly to Batman/Harry Potter, suffers from memory loss and a chronic disease that effects him the most at critical times...). Like me, he also doesn't think he's special. He's less friendly than me, and at the same time slightly more witty.
I acknowlegde that he's quite similar to me; hell, I somewhat intended him to be.

I ran my sci fi protaganist, Jacqueline Shaw, through the test. Shaw is a Maintenance Tech who is basically a glorified electrician/plumber on a interstellar colony, works a blue collar job as a result, and is generally unhappy with her career.

None of the extraordinary events of the novel really change any of that.

Quote
Jacqueline Shaw is suspiciously similar to you as you'd like to be. She is not at all cool; in fact, she thinks cool is a temperature reading, and when she says "Oh, I just put on whatever old thing's lying around," she means "on the floor, where I threw it last night - but I turned the underwear inside out first." There's never been anything special about her that she could see; boy, is she in for a surprise. She's got no emotional scars to speak of. And she's gotten no slack from you.

In general, you care deeply about Jacqueline Shaw, but you're smart enough to let her stand on her own, without burdening her with your personal fantasies or propping her up with idealization and over-dramatization. Jacqueline Shaw is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of her.

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Richter Belmont isn't a character: he's you, or you as you'd like to be. He is so impossibly hip that he has difficulty seeing over his own pelvis; he'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. He always knew he was special, destined for great things - and probably made sure everyone else knew it too. He's had more than his fair share of hard knocks, and probably spends more time than he ought moaning about it. And you've been pretty kind to him, always ready to intercede on his behalf and give him a nice easy victory.

You identify far too heavily with Richter Belmont, and defend him from all sides, never realizing that in your quest to make him perfect you are alienating your readers. Back off and take a break. Try writing the story from the viewpoint of a different character, one you have less sympathy with... or writing a different story and coming back to this one.

IGA should be the one who must take this quiz on his invented characters since this test is best for your own personal character creations.
