Title: Selling PoR Prototype Cartridge (Closed Topic)
Post by: retrogamesuk on March 29, 2012, 11:51:35 AM
Hi All,

I'm new here, I'm a member over at NintendoAge and you can see my ebay profile, http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=j_and_a_toys&ftab=AllFeedback (http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=j_and_a_toys&ftab=AllFeedback)

I just thought everyone may like to see the pics of this Castlevania Portrait of ruin prototype DS, Pic's are attached, it is for sale aswell if anyone is interested.

I haven't played through the whole game yet, so far it seems mostly the same, (even though I do not know the game well) A few different colours in places, but so far that's about it.

Thanks!

Hey, welcome to the forums! Do you have any in-game screens to show us? If this is a prototype then there must be some minor in-game discrepancies abound in it.

Hi there, thanks for the welcome :)

I haven't taken any yet, My DS is on charge right along with camera, but I can take some tomorrow once they are both charged and post some pics, I presume it must have some differences like you say to the retail version.

Thanks!

Just to let everyone know, the prototype is now on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280855678024&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280855678024&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT)

I have posted some Gameplay screenshots, quite hard to get when your playing the game :)

If anyone has any q's, or wants a screenshot from a particular point in the game let me know and I'll try and get one.

Thanks!

How can we tell its is a prototype version of the game, and not simply just a devkit cart that was aquired and then loaded with a copy of the retail game?

I would imagine a true prototype would be in Japanese, not English, under the Akumajo title.

I also find it odd a prototype game, developed in Japan, would be labeled with a sharpe in English as "Castlevania PoR".

That is very unlikely, it has come from a good source, when I say prototype, a prototype by mine and many people's definitions is to do with the cart it's self as aposed to what the rom is on the cart, one of my other prototype carts on ebay is Lunar Knights and this has on the label, Lunar Knights review sweden (where all the carts came from). As these carts would have been sent to reviewers like all (well most) DS games are, so it may be the final build for review, this I have no idea on. I have had some good offers that I've turned down and if it doesn't make it's reserve I'm happy to keep it. I'm a 100% sure this is genuine.

Hi there, I have so had 4 offers, the highest being $525 which I turned down. The ebay reserve price is lower than this though, but not a lot lower. I got this from Sweden, from someone who works in the video game industry, I'm sorry but I don't know where or what they do, but I have had many items from this person and everyone has been 100% genuine and everyone I've sold the items to has been very happy, hope this helps.
Thank you!

I don't you can get anyone crazy enough to pay over 500 for that thing.

So far 2 people have now offered over $500. I don't think they are crazy if you want a piece of videogame history from a fantastic franchise then it's right there for them and DS prototypes of any kind are hard to get hold of, People would be crazy if they just wanted to play it and aren't collectors though, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I own several prototypes, and believe me, $500+ for a DS game released only several years ago is asking way, WAY too much. You really need to reconsider that, this coming from a hardcore collector.

Show me a Bloodlines prototype, or a Super Castlevania IV prototype or perhaps Rondo, then we'll talk. THAT will be worth over $500.

Fair enough, but if it doesn't hit it's reserve, I have someone who may be willing to purchase it and if not I'm just as happy to keep it, I got it very cheap so I don't mind hanging on it if it doesn't sell.

Sounds like BS to me.

"Hey dude, I got this prototype for a Japanese game in a remote European country from a mysterious trusted source, you can totally trust me."

"Hey dude, I got this prototype for a Japanese game in a remote European country from a mysterious trusted source, you can totally trust me."

Well, this will be my last post here, as clearly everyone isn't over friendly and thinks I'm lying. If you bothered to look at me feedback I'm trusted and you really think I'd make up a item and ruin my rep over, well then think what you want, frankly I couldn't care less what you think, of course it's a mysterious source, I'm not exactly going to post here, hey guys I got this from this person here and he has more want to buy them, what do you think I'm going to say. If you also bothered to look at the item you will see it's Konami entertainment of europe, while it may be a Japanese, prototypes are from all reason, at no point did i say this was an early build or anything, but whatever. I don't appreicate people thinking I'm lying or say I'm talking BS, I would never say that about anyone without good solid proof, as that's a very bold statement to make.
I posted this here because i thought some of you may just be interested to see it. But it seems all anyoen wants to do is talk shit about me and it.

Please can a MOD lock this thread and feel free to ban me or whatever, I couldn't care less.

*flashbacks to my time at another Castlevania forum*

Geez, calm down a bit. I haven't seen any doubt in this thread that I wouldn't expect from any discerning buyer. I personally won't question that you believe the item is legitimate; that's a fact. What we don't know is who your supplier is, or how or where they got their supply from. That's easily cause to be suspicious, especially when it's a "prototype game" on the market. For all we know, it could be a ROM shoved onto a homemade cart.

There's a lot of reason for a buyer who is being asked to part with a considerable sum of money to be suspicious. It's not a judgment of you as a person though.

Some people are skeptical, which is understandable.

Wasn't that one stupid expensive (though legitimate) Bloodlines beta the PAL version of the game?

The facts just don't seem to add up, and I'd rather not see anyone here get ripped off for over half a grand on some fake.

Ok, so I live in sweden. And I was working as a video game reviewer for about 4 years (approx 2006-2010). Promo carts never ever looked like that. I never reviewed PoR so I can't say for sure but I did review other DS games and they all looked like normal DS carts. Most of them even had a box. I am not saying this is fake but it's probably not something that was sent to magazines, at least not in my country. So there.
Title: Re: Nintendo DS Castlevania Portrait of Ruin prototype! PLEASE LOCK
Post by: retrogamesuk on April 01, 2012, 03:56:01 AM
Ok, I Wish to clear things up here.

1. At no point did I call this a promo cart, it's a prototype cart, NOT a promo one, A promo one would look like a normal DS cart there is a huge difference.

2. This is Konami of europe, when they were doing the localization.

3. None of you know about DS prototypes as for calling it a home made cart, well that's just a load of crap. You can see the cartridge on the board at the bottom has Nintendo on it, it's look's like all other DS prototypes, see this for example http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=220883556260&nma=true&rt=nc&si=ABF6HzjVLT%252FCjKBYDJTh069j6L4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=220883556260&nma=true&rt=nc&si=ABF6HzjVLT%252FCjKBYDJTh069j6L4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc)
So don't go round making accusations when you don't know the first thing about things like this.

4. At no point did I say this had prototype gameplay, it more than likely wouldn't as Konami of Japan would have sent the code to Konami of europe and it's purly for localization as stated above (so I believe).

5. No I won't clam down when people attack me and my item, you don't me, I've sold many rare and high priced item, this isn't a high price item for me.

6. I don't care what anybody says here anymore, I know it's 100% real, genuine, legitmate.

END!!!!!!!!!!!  >:(

I would also like to say that all buyers get offered a full refund + return postage for the item if not happy with it.

I don't know why you all have something against this item and me, but you clearly all have (apart from two people), so there's not much I can say really.

I have already requested this thread to be locked and will do again, I WILL NOT HAVE PEOPLE CRAPING ON ME AND MY ITEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  >:(  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Yeah, I kinda see that, but what would you do, I got people going around calling my item fake, homemade etc, when they don't have any proof, I purchased the item in good faith and I believe it is real.

If it is your wishes for the thread to be locked, then I will lock it.
We have a very skeptical community here.  No one is attacking you, but they are showing their (mostly genuine) concerns regarding the game prototype.

Now, you can take that as some kind of insult or whatever, or you can take it as a legitimate concern for people wanting to part with their money.

By the way, your attitude and clamoring for the thread to be locked doesn't put you in the best positive light.  Not that you care by now, though we have some collectors here that might have been able to oblige you (though perhaps not anymore... then again who knows?).

Lastly, there IS a "For Sale/For Trade" thread in Fan Stuff.  It was my mistake to not point you to that thread in the first place.
For Sale/For Trade thread (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,3180.0.html)

I will lock this now but to be honest, your outburst toward the end of the thread there was not the best of attitudes to have.
I wish you the best of luck with your item.
