Title: Why does Castlevania IV have a name entry screen?
Post by: Super Waffle on June 13, 2016, 03:18:09 PM
It's not like it has a built-in save system or anything.

Your name determines your password code.
Otherwise, the passwords would have been too simple as they would've been common.

Your name adds variety to the passwords.

Yeah, I remember having a few instances where I just took down the password symbols using a trash name like Pdsfhi and trying to input the password and pretty much having it not work...

Fun times...back to stage 1...

Not that I didn't have the time back then though...

It's the same deal as with CVIII. In fact I think CV's III & IV are the only games in the series to do this. You had passwords in other games but no name input tied in to them.

Has anybody looked into the algorhythm or whatever determines how the name relates to the password? It could be anything really.

I believe this has a Read Me containing the logic behind it.

Thanks! I did not understand the logic, but I feel much better knowing that someone figured it out (really). :)

Right, forgot about that one.

The good thing is you don't have to enter a name and you'll still get a password. Cuts down on password entry.
