I actually liked this movie alot. Way better than T3 and Salvation.

The only thing that annoyed me was the casting. They should of offered Robert Patrick boat loads of money to reprise his role as the T-1000 or at least CGI his face. (Still don't know why they didn't do that) Speaking of which, every scene with the T-1000 was cool as f*ck.

And they should of re-casted Michael Biehn as Reese. He would of been older and it would of worked.

I hated the fact that basically made Reese a bodybuilder bigger than John. It just looks odd, especially in a dstopian future.Didn't mind Connor this time around, and it helped that they based the makeup from the makeup from T2. Even though that scene was done by the director of Platoon.

The future war scenes in this movie were more faithful to the T2 scene then the whole movie of Salvation. They literally could have done the whole movie in that style and it would of been great!

Emilie Clark was ok as Sarah in looks but she no Linda Hamiton and why is she so short?

What does everyone else think?

I know I'll probably be frowned upon for this but I actually liked it as much if not better than T2.
T3 was average and I didn't bother with Salvation, but the preview for this and watching the film was scratching me right where I was itching.
The plot execution isn't flawless but I'm a fan of multi-dimensional timetravel elements in sci-fi and I think John Connor's role in this film was very unexpected and interesting.

I will say that imo the T-1000 effects aren't really any better than they were in T2 (aside form being rendered in HD) if anything they appear slightly more rigid. However the actor in T2 who played T-1000 seems like his composure and mannerisms are quite rigid (at least they were for T2) thus I believe at the time it allowed his liquid metal form to appear more smooth in transition.

SPOILERS:
(click to show/hide)

I like the positive (potential) outcome of the film rather than the bleak open-ended feeling of T2. Although I felt T2's atmosphere was probably more distinct overall I'd be more likely to watch this again over it having seen T2 so many times in the past. I will say for nostalgia/ classic value this will not beat T2 though, and it certainly is not ahead of its time the way T2 was.

Also this movie reminded me alot of Sarah Connor Chronicles in some parts.

"pops" was sent to the 1970's by someone unknown from the year 2070-something--a few decades even further into the future than the franchise has ever visited. this wasnt explained in the film, or rather, he says his files were "erased"

Saw this film a few days ago and I can say that it felt disjointed. It was interesting in some parts but it was odd--all over the place. Both James Rolfe and Mike Matei who saw the film when it came out mentioned that the plot seemed 'all over the place'. And I can agree with it. In an interview on the special features of the movie it was mentioned that the fans wanted to see more of the future battle (war against the machines). However I don't think T:Genisys was what the fans meant they wanted to see. For a "proper" future battle I'd rather see it done in a full-length, full-on 2029 T1-T2 style. The original flying sentinels, HK tanks, laser light effects etc. Nothing remade, just the classic Terminator experience but without going back in time. Just the human resistance storming SAC-NORAD to take out Skynet, old-school style. That's about it.

I disagree and think time travel has always been prominent in the Terminator series. Without it John was never technically born.
I think the time shift aspect keeps the movies interesting, as opposed to a dilapidated future where there is nothing to salvage.
It actually brings hope into the future of the series.

Yes and no. Salvation took place in the future but it wasn't 2029. It was 2018. The only plasma weapons we saw were used by the HKs themselves and not by everyone else. I felt it was lackluster at best. A true future battle would be in 2029 like what we saw in T1 and T2. That intense sci-fi action that we only got to see briefly is what many fans want to see again except in a full-length film.

It is, but it's not necessary in a full-on future battle where its the resistance Vs Skynet. Many have mentioned that the time travel aspect is getting overused and what they want to see now is a full-on 2029 future war movie with no going back in time. And I can agree with that. We now have four films that have time travel to the past before 2029. So why can't we have a film that takes place in the future? I see no reason not to.

I thought so too, until T3 came about and retconned the T2 ending to a point. It does make me wish that they had kept the original T2 ending where there was no future war due to changing the events in T2. In that way T3 wouldn't have been made. But James Cameron left the ending as a 'black highway at night' which kept the doors open for possible sequels.

I think T2's ending was fantastic given the prospect that Judgement day had been avoided and there was literally and figuratively this "open road" to the future. From the perspective of a purist, they should have stopped at T2. Not that I am a purist but the narrative worked perfectly imo.

I see the logic of T3, but dislike the notion of "You lose... To the internet!" which never sat right with me.
T3 only really retconned "preventing JD">>>"JD was meant to be survived" but the internet thing was a cheapshot in finagle more future films in. I seriously would have preferred if Skynet became self aware of T2's alternate "open road" timeline and the story took off from there. Aside from wanting John Connor dead, T3's narrative makes the whole point of sending robots back a bit useless as JD was "always supposed to happen". The two ideas can coexist but don't necessarily jive imo.
