first screens.  my favorite Fire Emblem games are FE Awakening and FE Fates.  not sure about this one, I guess in the remake, both protagonists are choosable as the lead protagonist and perspective?   well quick wiki, sounds like its a shared dual protagonist campaign and they travel together, though story differences and stuff still haven't been confirmed how much has changed.   and sounds like it will feature full voiceovers?

I've never played Fire Emblem, but this looks like as good an excuse to get into the series as I'm gonna get.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

I haven't played a lot of 3ds since finishing FE Awakening last year. But this looks quite good.

awesome trailer

Fire Emblem Fates is still gonna be my favorite though,  that features full protagonist creation (Awakening has it too, but Chrom hogs a part of the spotlight. it's so annoying he's on the map instead of "Robin", the player created character )

Echoes has some cool things about it, but I hate games dictating who or what the player plays, especially when there are only premade characters,
for example,  I prefer something more like Resident Evil 1 and 2 instead of something like Resident Evil 3 onwards.
and prefer stuff like Star Ocean The Second Story, where the two lead protagonists journey together, however the player can choose which one to play as for the entire playthrough, and experience some exclusive things from their personally chosen character's perspective.

Echoes is said to have a single campaign, unlike Fates which has two paths/factions (well three with Revelations), and yet Echoes alternates between the two lead characters based on story progression.

I put up with something similiar for games like Suikoden III, but at least Suikoden III allowed the player to ultimately choose which of the three protagonists the player prefers to play as for the rest of the game after their paths merge (though it was still annoying using protagonists I dont like).

maybe Echoes might have that.  but dunno, since it's based on an old game, it might side with Alm for the rest of the campaign, or maybe Celica will be an option to be playable lead for the rest of the campaign, and maybe the leader is swappable after their paths merge and they probably are in the same group for the rest of the game.

but yea, I prefer character creation, Awakening and especially Fates established the standards.

since Echoes is a remake of Gaiden, they could have adapted the game, which they practically remade from scratch,
to support two separate campaigns, so players can play as the protagonist they prefer the whole way through.
and those that like both, that doubles incentives to do a 2nd playthrough.

but ah well, at least it sounds better than the old conventional formula most Fire Emblems had with only one lead protagonist.  though also lacking relationship, marriage and child systems is a step backwards, even for a remake of an outdated classic.

though the Switch Fire Emblem should definitely absorb Fire Emblem Fates fundamentals to its protagonist customization and player choices, relationship, marriage and child systems as well.

FE Fates really opened up the demographics, identity freedom, relationships depth, and interest for the series, so they should hold onto those higher standards that really all games should have.
