Title: What is the worst Castlevania song?
Post by: Roki on February 07, 2019, 01:27:44 PM
The title says it all. In your opinion, what's the worst song from a Castlevania game? For me it has to be Sinking Old Sanctuary. It just doesn't sound like Castlevania music to me. It fits the stage well, but if I didn't know better, I'd never be able to tell that it was from a Castlevania game.

Your favourite one

But seriously speaking, it's a fact that Black Shudder from Dawn of Sorrow is the worst CV track up to date

Yeah, it really is.
Runner up is Harmony of Dissonance's Prologue. I loved that game's soundtrack for it's uniqueness, but that song really took a shit all over it.
And I also have a long lasting hatred for any version of Beginning, Castlevania 4's version being my least favourite. It's probably just overexposition.

Sinking Old Sanctuary!? The fuck version of that song have you been listening to? That's a cream of the crop CV song dude..

I can't pick a worst song. But Mirror of Fate is one big worst song if you ask me. I also have to add that the Netflix CV music is some of my least favorite music to be associated with CV.

CV music is diverse and has room for more diversity even still. I rate a good CV song by how well it fits the scenario it was composed for, not by a preconceived idea of what a CV song should be. You know it's a good CV song when find a safe place in a level to sit and chill while you listen.

Sinking Old Sanctuary is one of Yamane's greatest pieces of music.

I've been listening to the original Mega Drive version. I did say that it fits the stage well, but compared to other tracks, especially Reincarnated Soul, it just doesn't stand up at all. It's by no means bad, but it doesn't stick with you like other songs.

Sadly I'd have to agree lol, Sinking Old Sanctuary is a one of the more known and used tracks in Castlevania games since it has appeared in more than 1 game, its not on equal footing with the likes of Bloody Tears, Wicked Child, or Vampire Killer but it is a pretty great and melodic track that fit the Castlevania series just fine in my opinion, but to each their own.

Honestly my least favorite track is Behind the Gaze (Burning Paradise stage) from Portrait of Ruin, I remember cringing at the ost used for that stage, yea it fit due to the theme of clowns and circus but it felt so very out of place.

I'm confused though cuz you're saying it's not bad. Isn't there another CV song in that case that you would consider bad and that doesn't fit it's stage well? Wouldn't that song be the worst song? One that does nothing right?

It just seems weird to start a thread asking what is the worst CV song and then go on to list one you think fits the stage well, and isn't bad as your pick for the worst song.. heh

See why I'm a little confused?

Isn't the generic answer here, "I am the wind"?  ;D

Tough question. From what I've heard about the Lords of Shadow games, I wouldn't be surprised if my least favorite would be from one of them, but I have just about zero interest in ever playing those games, so I can't comment on what I haven't listened to.

So from what I have played, maybe I'd go with Door of Holy Spirits from the Reverse Colosseum in SotN? It's an amazing soundtrack overall, yes, but I've always found that particular track jarring and unpleasant to listen to. It sounds like something out of a slasher film, and while, sure, Castlevania can be considered horror too, it's just not the kind of atmosphere I expect in a Castlevania.

Yup  :P

That song didn't seem to fit with Castlevania. Then again neither did the ending theme for Curse of Darkness. I remember finishing the game for the first time, then the tune popped up and thought "what am I listening to?"

But hey it made me an opera fan and a Russell Watson fan, so, you know, silver linings.

Harmony of Dissonance's Prologue.

If ever you wanted to know what a messy smear of 8-bit pixels sounds like, that song is Exhibit A. Even orchestral renditions I've heard over the years sound like ass. It's just a badly composed song on every level.

I Am The Wind's biggest sin is not fitting within the game it features in. It's an otherwise competent, if thoroughly average, song.

I don't know if it's the worst, but there is a song in SotN that sounds like burping frogs. The name escapes me though.

I know which one you mean. It plays in the abandoned mine before the catacombs.

I don't think he means the one from abandon mine, but the one it plays at the center room, under the clock, where you meet Maria and fight Shaft.
