I don't think it would happen. Well, maybe except for Japan, since they are totally in love with robots.
However, for the rest of the world, it wouldn't happen. Look at the 3rd world (ahem, underdeveloped nations), they have a bulk of their population as lower class, and replacing them with robots would bring about another round of civil war.

Regarding this topic, Dependency theory, Structural Change, etc. are all theories on economic development and they are just filtered lenses on how people view the world.

"3rd world" is not incorrect, it's just outdated because there's no more "2nd world" since the collapse of the Socialist block.
You can also refer to underdeveloped "Southern states" as opposed to the developed "Northern States".

International Relations is awesome! I studied that too.
You are guaranteed to understand the world a little better, don't worry about it. But all those theories will make you head swim. 
Yeah... It is hard to get a job after graduating from that field. Unless you want to go to the academe or to enter foreign service (and the fight to get in is tough).
