They're not things I'd repeat if I actively knew the developer were working on something else, so in that sense, I find them at least believable.

But basically I was told that he expects to see a new Fire Emblem, a new Castlevania, and a Contra but doesn't expect a lot of people will be happy with the direction those games are taking.

This source was 100% right on what he told me about DQX and confirmed the MHTriG thing for me long before the TGS rumors came out. But this is definitely very specific and a bit more risky with three games.

Nah, it might be more like "Castlevania: The Puzzle Game Part II" or something.
That's a completely different direction.  MercurySteam's LoS might not be so popular here with some people (not me, I think the game is pretty great, though it's just not that CV to me, but it's still good) but at least it's an action/platform game.  A 'different direction' suggest them going in a very oddball direction away from the core franchise, like what they did with Encore of the Night.

My fear is that maybe they have let Cox take over the 2.d games and he will make a game for the 3DS?

Or maybe Konami gives IGA a very low budject and lets him make a lame puzzle game or make a game with reused sprites.
