I'm upset that Leon was pixelated only for a dual crush in PoR. Why couldn't they at least toss him in Harmony of Despair?
I'm done ranting. (For now)
-
There is ALOT of things they should have done in Harmony of Despair to be fair.
Still a moddable HoDes PC release with level creator is still in my dreams...
-
^^ So much this. Harmony of Despair would have insane potential under fan care.

What's bothering me most is why they didn't use the sprite of Simon from Chronicles version, kinda weird that they used the 8 bit/NES version yet the portrait of him was from Chronicles version
-
Some things we may never know the reason why.
Perhaps they wanted Simon to be the same as Getsufuma's version.
-
It bugs me how Christopher isn't even there.

I honestly thought that after PoR we'd get a 2D Lament sequel. Such hope I had...still it was pretty cool to see, plus Simon and Trevor sometimes being in their 8-bit sprites. I'm surprised they didn't use his SCIV or Chronicles sprite, though.

Yeah I hear you, it could have kept going. HoDes was left for broke when so much could have been added. I still play it and just think at how many more hours if have on them all if it had continued support

Maybe the developers thought: Too many whip users would spoil the party.

And the fact that they controlled very similar to one-another. Personally Leon's sprite wasn't really that impressive. It would have been so if not for that gimped whip arm of his. His arm looks like it was snapped in half and then the bones fused into a conjoined mess.

I can't understand why never again have we seen the eight way directional whip attacks of SuperCvIV. When I first played Dracula X NitM on Saturn (I didn't get a PSX or play Rondo until later), I was disappointed that Richter could only whip straight forward. Somewhere I think I read that Julius could attack in eight directions in Harmony of Despair (which I haven't played), but I think they were just talking about holding the whip out and flinging it around for wimpy damage. Can someone confirm that?
-
I was expecting 8-directional whipping when I first got Castlevania: Dracula X. Bloodlines didn't disappoint me nearly as bad since it had multi-directional whipping too. Just not the full 8 as SCV4.
-
tbh it was probably because the 8-directional whipping made subweapons pretty useless for the most part, hence why they reduced it in Bloodlines and Chronicles.
-
While grappling and swinging with the whip you could throw your subweapons.
-
I still find the subweapons useful in Super Castlevania 4 especially the cross boomerang with "III" box item, the 8 directional whipping still won't even reach on a very faraway enemies. Subweapons on Symphony on the Night is even more useless because of Alucard's overpowered special moves.
Seriously I always thought that the 8 directional whipping is the coolest idea ever on Castlevania series than all of the gimmicks/systems of Metroidvania games combined.
