Title: My first orchestral arrangement in like 20 years
Post by: Jazz Paladin Productions on December 02, 2019, 09:28:13 PM
So I have been working on a massive Final Fantasy IV jazz album, but also wanted to start working on getting back into orchestral arranging now that certain forms of technology have evolved to the point where I don't need to use sample-based libraries as much for certain things (which is why I spent 20 years avoiding those huge things that cost thousands of dollars and took up terragigs of space)

So just thought I'd share, this is the main Final Fantasy IV theme, hope y'all like.

20 years eh? That's a long wait  -_-

FF4 has always been my personal favourite game.

This can be a rather broad and peculiar classificaiton--is there anything in particular you are thinking of, stylistically, as an example? I usually think of Chris Botti or something with an orchestra backing the melody/solos.

If this is what you mean, i've got a few things like this planned for the FF IV arrangements I am working on.

Yeah, mine too. I looooved the PSP remake, I wish they would do that for FF VI (PC version was trash).

For those interested, here are the 20 songs I am working on for the jazz arrangements. For most, I am trying to stick to the melody, as I don't want to detract from Uematsu's beautiful compositions. A few will be pretty wild, though.

1) Red Wings
2) Kingdom of Baron
3) Theme of Love
4 Welcome to Our Town!
5) Main Theme of Final Fantasy IV (2-3 renditions of this)
6) Into the Darkness
7) Ring of Bomb
8) Rydia
9) Castle Damcyan
10) Suspicion
11) Golbez Clad in the Dark
12) Long Way to Go
13) The Dreadful Fight
14) Troian Beauty
15) Tower of Bab-il
16) Somewhere in the World
17) Dancing Calcobrena
18) Illusionary World
19) Another Moon
20) The Final Battle

Yeah I heard it wasn't very good and the screenshots weren't convincing me in the slightest. Final Fantasy's 3, 5, and 6 need the proper 1, 2, and 4 PSP treatment.

I mean, I guess it really depends on your stylistic preference. Stan Kenton style stuff would be just as dope as Charlie Parker with Strings if executed well.

I think I can pull off the Kenton style stuff, I am thinking it would be best saved for Castlevania at this point -- Theme of Simon Belmont just popped into my head , Kenton-style, and I like the voices I am hearing in my head right now...

And I do plan on doing more Castlevania stuff next year, and probably Wild Arms. Stay tuned.
