Title: Happy Chinese New Year!
Post by: Shiroi Koumori on February 08, 2016, 01:53:32 AM
It's the year of the Fire Monkey.
This chart could help you determine your element and Chinese zodiac animal.
Take note that the start of the Chinese New Year is not January 1, and those who are born in January or February might be associated with the animal of the previous year. When in doubt, Google. ;)

I'm year of the pig, and apparently my element is wood.

Does that make me Wood Man? (cue Mega Man II boss intro screen).

Happy New Year.

It's also worth noting that your true, or inward sign is determined by the time of day you were born. This was in part due to how Asians used to run on a twelve-hour clock.

11:00 P.M. - 1:00 A.M. (Rat)
1:00 A.M. - 3:00 A.M. (Ox)
3:00 A.M. - 5:00 A.M. (Tiger)
5:00 A.M. - 7:00 A.M. (Rabbit)
7:00 A.M. - 9:00 A.M. (Dragon)
9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. (Snake)
11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. (Horse)
1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. (Goat)
3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. (Monkey)
5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. (Rooster)
7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. (Dog)
9:00 P.M. - 11:00 P.M. (Pig)

There's more that goes into that though, such as time zone, daylight savings time, and even longitude.

@Lashen: Yes. Those things you mentioned would be used for determining your own fortune and unlike the general fortunes for everyone born under a sign. It is kind of like western astrology when you need to know your birth chart and not just the sun sign.

Pigs are actually considered lucky since they don't need to do anything and they are fed. Unlike the other animals who have to do stuff (like hunt or work) in order to get food.
