Title: Finish Him! Completing player character animation sets
Post by: SerenityinFire on November 20, 2012, 11:30:09 AM
A sprite project I've been working on the past few days has been completing animation sets for all player characters from SotN and onward.  This means all characters being able to use eachother's weapons, and so on and so forth - not to mention a few done just for fun.  All updates will go into the first post in this thread.  This project will also include Leon and Juste Belmont.  All sprites will be available as public domain once the sheets are completed.

First off is Richter.  He is now able to use Alucard's swords, including the appropriate jumping and ducking animations of course.  All weapon attacks done thus far have the proper jumping and ducking animations as well as new jumping animations for the whip.  More to come!

This is nice!  You only have two posts which is why you cannot post in Fan Stuff yet.
That's why this thread is here rather than there.  I will move it, though.  Nice Hadooouuken!

Howz about a  dragon punch?

Thanks for the kind words!  There are surely more to come! ;D

A dragon punch would be very easy to do since Richter already has a move like it.  I could throw in a Hurricane Kick too while I'm at it.

I'm thinking I just might end up redoing/touching up a bunch of Richter's sprites because it seems that he alternates between long hair and short hair in some of his default animations from RoB - PoR. :-\

If you're going to do that, stick with the short hair so it'll be consistent with his official art.
In fact, if you want to touch them up to be even more consistent with his official design, you might want to edit them to look a bit more like BullockDS' work over here:

Of course, I'm not saying that you have to...

I saw that sprite yesterday and that's the approach I was thinking of taking.  It really looks to me like most or Richter's sprites were just edits of Simon from CV4.

You know, the punching animation you made for Richter looks a bit like Guy's backhand jabs.
EDIT: After seeing it in slow-mo (opening it in my default Blackberry browser), maybe not. A bit oddly animated though, looks like a closed-fist sideways chop.

I'll agree the punching animation needs some work.  I'll probably get to it in the next few days as I'm going to be redoing all of Richter's sprites.  They are a mess with all the inconsistencies in hair, build and dress.
Here's the first of many Richter animations to come.  It needs a few touch ups, but is pretty much done.

Is it just me, or does the lower arm look a tad too long?

Indeed, that arm is moving way too much and looks... masturbatory.
It should have more of a down and slightly forward motion (think Ryu's stance's lower arm, only if viewed from the opposite side).

Right now it's just the forearm that's moving up and down.  Doesn't look right.

New Stance and New Backdash
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FWoWjU.gif&hash=396815c96348618943f8e331e3eec688) (https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FD1DYp.gif&hash=76343145de69256d79bca365bc7cdc91)
The New Backdash needs a little work, mainly a transition frame between the stance and the move and a change in what frames loop.

I honestly never liked his standing sprite because the pose itself looks unnatural. most people stand with their shoulders parallel to their hips not perpendicular. Looks like it should be a transition frame for some upper body action. The frame for when you press up and he's getting ready to use a sub-weapon looks more natural to me. Just my too cents, though. Great work so far, nonetheless.

Here's a more complete backdash animation for Richter.

And here he is with his back turned.

Oh, lol. I didn't see yours.

They're both pretty kickass. Just something about Jorge's palettes always attracts me to his.
