Title: Youtube tag is broken again guys
Post by: Lumi Kløvstad on March 17, 2016, 01:22:20 PM
This has gotta be like the glitchiest feature on the forum.

When I was making my Tim Burton thread, of course I wanted to be awesome and post the trailer too, so I wrote it in the usual manner (using the link from the "Share" tab on Youtube, as I'm supposed to).

[youtube]link[/youtube]

It would preview fine, with the video visible and playable... but every time I posted the link, I'd find the forum automatically wrapped it in needless code as so

[youtube][url=link]link[/url][/youtube]

When modifying it back to a playable state, as soon as I hit save, it rewraps the link in the redundant code, which breaks the Youtube tag.

My Death Battle thread wasn't that long ago, so something seems to have changed in the last month or so.

This thread is half "cry for help" and half "the more you know".

Yes, that worked. As I thought, the code itself changed somewhat a little while ago, or at least Youtube's treatment of the code. Instead of putting the whole address into the tags, just add in the end of the youtube video address (in the example above, v=FbeP1aOuVfM). It should work in that case :D

Music is the opening theme to Shadowrun: Hong Kong, by the way, which I played recently and really enjoyed :D

No bs but I swear until last week the image tag never worked for me.

This was why I never posted images nor had them in my sig. I always posted links.
This did, however, prompt me to create a CV timeline to keep my sig interesting.  :)

I love the effort that was placed on your sig.

So you have to include the v= part for the embedding to work? Other sites just use the ID by itself. What the fudge.

[ Invalid YouTube link ]

Edit: No, it's actually the ID itself without the v= part, which makes more sense.

Nice to see that there's another Shadowrun fan here.  Anyone else?  I've been playing the tabletop game for the last 11 years.  Just yesterday I was very happy to return to playing my favourite character, Alastor (SURGEd elf phys adept), who I created 10 years ago this month.  Not played any of the computer games though.

So did anyone figure out why the forum was wrapping my Youtube stuff in that pointless code that kept breaking it? I've never seen the forum do that with anything else.

I can probably field this one:
Youtube sometimes updates the way it shares.
The plugin that we're using is rather new, but it probably did not update (since I have not done updates for the plugins; I'm fearful that updates will break the forum).

The users of the plugin here usually figure out an ingenious way to make it work, at which point I update the NEWS at the very top.
I just updated the news with the new information as to how to make it work, btw. ;)
