Finally beat this. Really good game, felt it was more fantasy than CV at first but it got the atmosphere down perfect later. I feel the game did a good job distinguishing its castle from Dracula's castle by it's more morbid tone. SOTN and everything after had more of a gothic horror feel, while Lucifer's castle felt downright sinister like something out of The Exorcist. SOTN had some spooky elements but overall felt like a relaxing stroll through some really nice architecture (this is basically what I'm expecting out of Bloodstained as well). By the time we got to POR we had environments like the Victorian city which was downright comfy more than anything. Mig has a real knack for the macabre, this game kept me on my toes more than any recent CV in regards to both the gameplay and the overall atmosphere. The gallery was probably my favorite area of the game, it was such a massive change in tone from the clean and pristine marble galleries of the IGAvanias and reminded me more of something like Ib. The first introduction to the castle, with the creepy whispering as it appears in the darkness and the slow trek across the vast entrance to be greeted by a giant statue of Lucifer was when I knew this game was something special.
