hokay I edited the first post with my new time, hopefully that causes no trouble.

I added my current Super Contra playthrough - I haven't touched the game in a week but cranked out my best performance yet. Still gotta get some patterns down though.

My Very Difficult score is: 203,360

Nemesis 90 Kai (X68K) 136,300 stage 4 crystal planet Bloodreign

Yeah this game proves how tough it can get, got through it in one piece but wish I had more options to take on the 10 Big Core bosses in succession, they instead wiped me out after about 6 or so.

The score I have on new super mario bros is 27,611,130, and I've gotten 2,345,780 on super mario world for the SNES before.

Getting the super mario world score caused my thumbs to be unusable for nearly six days. :P

Adding a Cleopatra Fortune score, almost got the 1 million point mark. Cleopatra Fortune is a nice puzzler from Taito.  :)

More Taito goodness, one of the best shooting series not named Gradius or R-Type (yet deserves to hold a lofty status nonetheless), Darius, in this case Darius Gaiden.

Darius Gaiden (Taito Legends 2 PC)- 1,257,100 Stage 4 (top route) Bloodreign

Is this only high scores or can you put fastest times (resident evil) or highest kills in survival mode (various fighting games) ?
Title: Re: High Score thread: The Return
Post by: Bloodreign on October 16, 2007, 03:00:09 PM
Look on the very bottom of the first post, there's a speedrun score there, beat it and you earn the spot. Not too sure about highest kills in survival mode for fighters though as I've never seen a board dedicated to either scores, or amounts of straight victories in fighters anywhere.

:47 for RE2, really? You'd need to be able to skip door opening sequence for that. I think it is possible on the computer but i'd have to see a vid to believe that one.
Naruto Clash of Ninja 2: 1p mode. 638,300 points.

Got a PC Engine CD game to add a score with. Only port of Darius 1 that I know of that uses the original arcades soundtrack in redbook audio format. Excellent port of the original arcade classic.

Super Darius (PCE CD) 901,900 Stage B, upper route- Bloodreign

For Darius scores: should we go along the top most route, as you been doing bloodreign, or can you take your own route. After midterms I'm going to improve my R-type III score and try for a G Darius score. (Thats not going to be easy...damn fish)
Title: Re: High Score thread: The Return
Post by: Bloodreign on October 19, 2007, 11:19:44 PM
Whatever route you choose is up to you, in some Darius titles the upper route usually brings with it higher scores, no restrictions on which route you decide to take though.

Edit: Update to Kiki Kaikai score, this time the MAME version (boy do I jump around on which revision to play, Taito Legends 2 or MAME heh heh) broke the 1 million mark for the first time, yet died a little further in stage 3 from ghosts that shot little pellets at you.

I played Kiki Kaikai for a few minutes...man it's random. I got over 70K on my first life...then got beaten down by the third boss. Yeah, you've got some competition coming BR!

Got one for the weirdest Galaga sequel this side of Galaga 88, Gaplus. Vey tough game to break the default 50,000 point high score on, but multiple ships helped me get a perfect in the bonus round, as this time you can capture the enemy ships to help you out.

Time to add a score for Flying Shark's Japanese counterpart, Hishou Zame, the Japanese version is a bit harder, and just different enough to be different from the US Sky Shark, or the world revision, Flying Shark.

Just beat the famicom disk akumajou dracula with an end score of 182,705. I like how that one has a name entry screen and save feature and it says your name at the end under "and the hero Simon Belmondo" instead of just the generic "you".

Finished Hard Mode with an end score of 439,160.

An improvement to my R-type Delta score...im getting close...I would have cleared stage 5 fine but i blinked and got smoked at the boss. didn't die the whole way through that damn area though. (funny...stage 6 makes 5 look like childs play)

R-Type Delta (PSX) 426,469 Stage 5 (Using R9)

Your right Bloodreign....this is leagues better than Final....hell I think R-type 3 is better than Final. However, collecting all those ships was fun.

Third installment of the Space Invaders series, good to play.

Edit: Did better hours later after work.

143,400 stage 10

Lost my last 3 lives due to the invaders reaching the surface, wich in the older Space Invaders was a no no.

Proper format: name of game, system it was on (if on emulator, which system), score, loop if applies, stage, and your name. Can't really put the last two scores in because I don't know how far you got.;)

Super C NES loops, so how far did you get? In Gradius 3 how far did you get?

Yeah but I didn't really wanna keep playin' once I beat it.

Just beat Rockman (Megaman) one time with an end score of 1,638,300. Might keep playin' later.

For the times section since it seems a bit bare I've finished the nes metroid 1 time (killing mother brain 1 time and escaping) in 23 minutes, Super Metroid in 82 minutes and metroid Zero Mission in 80 minutes. I've also beaten the original super mario bros 1 time (going from world 1-1 to 8-4 once) with a time of 22 minutes with no deaths or hits.

anybody else play for points? Oh and my score for Super C nes still isn't on the list in case you forgot.

Update of Super Darius score.

Super Darius (PCE CD) 924,100 Stage C, lower route- Bloodreign

New score rule, from now on if you don't know which stage you were on, or at least go as far as you can on loops, the score won't be added. The reason, it gives others as well as you something to aim for to beat your score. Games with loops must be submitted with which loop you finished your last life on, no quitting.

Your score is up, but from now on put any new scores in this format:

Your score is up, but from now on put any new scores in this format:
Game Name, system, score, stage and loop if applicable, and name, keeps things in order.

K I'll start putting things in that order. Thanx for adding my score. :)

Yet another update on Super Darius, best score I've mustered yet.

1,184,300 Zone E

Second boss took most of my lives, survived with 1 left, he throws large green lasers, and fires off spread shots, hard to dodge the shots, easy to dodge the lasers.

Xain - I challenge you with R-Type delta, I will be using EpsxE however as i cant be bothered plugging my playstation back in.

Screenies with proof of score when i get around to it!(well it's been a while since i played Delta - I died at the bottom of the underwater section with the green fish things )  will practice before i post official score...

Decided to try a run of a Mr. Do title, got nice results.

Do Run Run! (MAME)- 103,540 scene 9 Bloodreign

It's a shame Universal Games closed during the game crash, imagine what more Mr. Do titles they could've put out, none of the 3 originals were alike at all.

Time to dust off this old thread with a score.

Legend of Kage (NES) -104,550 STAGE 2 LOOP 3 Bloodreign

The NES version feels slightly harder than the arcade version, and the scoring isn't the same (the NES has lower point values per ninja kill), best I've ever done on this game. It's a shame this game gets so poor a reception, it's not bad at all really.

Been a real busy guy lately, haven't had much time to shoot for high scores myself, but the table is updated (you only have to put loop numbers on games you know loop, Mega Man doesn't loop, so no worries about a loop number for one loop games).

Operation Beat KT Two Stages completed!

571,160 Area 68 (already updated the thread)

I was very close to defeating the first of two tanks at the third boss, which makes the fight much easier.  Actually, I almost defeated that tank when I got back to the boss (only had the second level peashooter, though).

If I can only make it past that boss I could make my score significantly better.

Edit: I also deleted my Zero Wing entry.  If somebody can get past the first boss, we'll put it back up.  For myself, I don't see myself ever getting terribly good at the game.

Ed knocked off my Kyukyoku Tiger score, and I improved on my Super Darius score, and finally got to the end of Zone E, only to be destroyed by the boss Little Stripes (a very painful boss to try and beat).

1,601,950 Zone D

More Super Darius madness, but this time instead of taking the bottom route to zone E, took the top route to Zone C, needless to say the stage was easy, but the boss Big Rajarn isn't at all, it wiped the floor with me.

lots of tries man, and figuring out where all the blue wolves are gonna spawn from and what the best boss strategies are. Altered beast is def. one of the hardest games ever made especially the main boss one mistake and your toast and he takes over 100 hits to kill in addition. Took me 5 years just to get to level 5 and another 2 to finish it. It's def. battletoads hard.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (atari 2600), 12000 pts, The Last Belmont, doesn't loop.

Asteroids (atari 2600), 99999 pts (maxed out score), The Last Belmont.

May not sound like that many points for TCM but it is for that game. Took me 3 years just to break 4000. anyone know if the kids ever stop spawning or do they just keep respawning infinitely?

Soldier Blade (PC-Engine) is amazing fun.  Everybody should play it!

The caravan modes are great.  Here's my scores:

Soldier Blade 5min mode Normal
Ed Oscuro - 1,299,900

Soldier Blade 2min mode Normal
Ed Oscuro - 481,300

Final Soldier and Terra Cresta II also have the same caravan mode, got 500K in that FS and don't remember for TCII.  However, I know how to play Soldier Blade better, and it's also more fun.

60,148,660 Medieval Madness Pinball via PinMAME

PinMAME works like MAME, but allows you to emulate real pinball games and machines, not easy to get working, but worth playing as I don't see this particular game anymore due to the place where it was closing a few years ago.

Now accepting scores from Pinball machines (real or emulated that isn't on a console) or the pinball game Space Cadet which is on Windows XP, or can be "found" and made to work on Vista.

Got wiped out with the thread, didn't back up the picture, did you (photobucket, or any image hoster)? Also to make things a little easier, if you post a picture, put some text below it with the score format used, this way I can quick copy paste when I have the time, makes things a little easier. :P

Had free time lately for the first time in awhile. Been sharpening my arcade skills. I just dominated Megaman the power fighters using Protoman with a final score of 418,900. Mastering these old games is good for working on the basics. Helps speed up strategy development, your response time as well as helping increase your button pressing speed.

Some MAME goodness within the last month:

Extermination - 185,510 - Stage 3 (boss) - (skipped stage 2)
Gekirindan - 694,160 - Stage 4
Nightmare in the Dark - 5,879,800 - Stage 3-5
P-47 Aces - 604,340 - Stage 3 (boss)
Palamedes - 63,580 - Line 11, Level 7
Robocop - 149,200 - Round  4 - Time 8:01 - 100% shooting practice 1
Sen-Know - 4,409,688 - Level 37 (Mamenchisaurus)
Snow Bros (set 1) - 256,280 - Floor 9
Wonder Boy III - Monster Lair - 93,200 - Round 3 (boss)

A couple other points, Tiger Heli, if it's in the list, ought probably to be split into "normal" and "fast" heli speed, since there is a DIP switch setting altering that.  Changes the game radically, though it still feels slow :P

Updated a score - Wonder Boy III arcade is now at 165,300 points, racing past my previous highscore.

I also tried out Bubble Bobble and had more fun than I remembered it being!  I'm only at 332,170 and Stage 15 though.

Edit:  Also tried out N.Y. Captor, it's quite fun!  Better sense of humor and better looks (heh) than a similar Data East game, which used a joystick instead.  A bit tricky to play with the mouse since shots don't land exactly where the mouse is, but that's balanced out by shots having a large hit area, so you often hit two objects at once (like in the can-tossing minigame with MUSUBIKO).  I got to a stage with a barrel in the middle and the sound of shots eventually started - even with the screen clear.  I lost all my lives there.  Otherwise I should have been able to keep going a long time.  If I play again, there are more bonuses (like the hard-to-activate cat on the rooftop of the first stage) that I would be able to get more points on.  All told, 770,310 points, Spot 22 (meaning 22 screens; I'm not sure how many "loops" or minigame appearances that is, but it's a number).  It was the third minigame before I missed a single target.  Also, it's a good time to play this game, because it's year of the rabbit, and the girl shows up as a bunny girl in the minigame.  Funny.

I was hoping for some great art of MUSUBIKO on one of the flyers, but instead we have Charles Bronson (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=4744&image=1), which is pretty badass too.  Also, one of those buildings is shaped like the Taito logo.

I still had 4 lives with a score of 664,040 in spot 22 as well, if you are using ShmupsMAME Ed, you had the same problem as me, something shooting fast at you that you could not see. Something is  emulated wrong in the game far as I can tell, unless it's an early kill screen.

R-Type? I don't think I've played that. What's it for? Is it an older generation game, like SNES, or something?

Also, Touhou is pretty damned hard. In all the hours I've played it, I've never beaten any Touhou game with just a single credit.

I can understand why some people would down right despise it, seeing how ridiculously difficult it can get.

Easy mode is not easy at all. Insane mode is simply for crazy people.

Not to get too offtopic in the thread, R-Type is an arcade game from Irem and quite a hard game and series. Also Touhou isn't nearly as hard as a Cave  danmaku game (bullet hell), in Cave games the bullets are far far faster and numerous.

Shit man, I'm having problems with just Touhou. There's even HARDER stuff out there? Damn. Makes me want to NOT play them.

I'll still try them out. Eventually.

Maybe when I can get out of my safe zone in Touhou.

Or maybe after I'm actually able to finish a Touhou game in one credit. Even in easy mode, it's not possible for me.

Touhou 7 Perfect Cherry Blossom - Normal Mode - Reimu (A) mode - 69,194,380 - Castle Pokemetroid

I've just noticed, going through my score boards in my Touhou files, but I think I have some sort of obsession with the words "power" and "road" since they tend to be the first things I think of when I put in a name for my score.

Hi guys, just discovered this forum and signed up to answer somebody's question, then I noticed this thread!

I'm always up for some friendly competition when it comes to retrogames, so let me just check how this works...

I'm guessing I just take a bash at beating any of the scores I see posted up here, or add any high scores for games I feel I've done okay in..is that right, yeah?

You can either try to beat one of the existing scores or try another game, but there is a format to the scoretable.

Name of game (system it's on) - score- level reached plus loop if applicable - your name  this way I can copy paste it into the scoreboard and on a notepad textfile I keep of the scores.

Correct format for that Tetris score:

Tetris (original Gameboy) - 502,674 - level 9 A Game - Dark Nemesis

Screenshots work, but make sure that you include this format once again so that I may copy/paste your score over to the table. Makes it a little easier on me than opening this topic in 2 tabs and going back and forth for info.

Touhou 7 Perfect Cherry Blossom - Normal Mode - Reimu (A) mode - 69,194,380 - Castle Pokemetroid

Touhou 8 Imperishable Night - Normal Mode - Reimu and Yukari mode - 362,631,020 - Castle Pokemetroid

And I still can't beat a Touhou game in only one credit. It's going to be a long time before I move onto R-Type.

Oh cool, didn't see this thread. May as well submit a few of my scores since I'm both a Castlevania fanatic and a Tetris fanatic :P

Tetris the Grandmaster (arcade) - GM 12:28:10 - Normal mode - adel
Tetris DX (GBC) - 399,139 - Marathon Lv1 - adel
(pic here (http://puu.sh/69Avq.png), reason for the lonely score is because I've never actually tried level 1 marathon, I usually do 9 or 0)
Super Tetris 3 (SNES) - 999,999 in 244 lines - Level 25 Endless mode - adel
(video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rpkF50scwo#))

ST3 is my only maxout at the moment, but I'm hoping to max TDX soon as well.

Also, let me know if I formatted that incorrectly so I can fix it.

EDIT: Oh lord, I just noticed the last post in this thread was in 2011. Well, I guess that was bound to happen eventually. Sorry about the necro.

I'm going on holidays for a few weeks but I'll try to dig up my old Tetris DX score, L9 Marathon over 8 million.

EDIT: Nope, unfortunately I've lost all of the old .sav files for gb/gba roms.

I do however still have a score of 923,422 for Tetris DX Level 9 Marathon. It's very noob in comparison but at least there's a record.

Bump, I know, BUUUUUT

Do games like Vanquish and Bulletstorm count?
Does anyone else even HAVE those games? Or would I be wasting my time in posting?

Bulletstorm would be unique too, since you use your score to buy ammo and upgrades. Do you sacrifice your score for an easier time, or try to forage as much as you can for ultimate bragging rights?

Someone 'splain that to me.

Trying to keep it to arcade style games where you aim for the high score in 1 credit. Not sure if games like these have any kind of credit restrictions on them, doesn't look like it relies on score for anything one would aim for (highest and toughest to knock off scores). And if you can gamble it away for items, no.

Usually high score competitions are held to shmups, platformers, run n guns like Contra, and puzzlers, as well as old single screen games.

Maybe more modern stuff like Raiden IV  and perhaps some Indie games that still rely on trying to get the top score can qualify.
