Title: Most ugly Castlevania character
Post by: crisis on February 03, 2013, 08:09:23 AM
So, what do you think about ugly looks from Castlevania characters? Here are just a few examples:

Merchant has that "come by my house sometime" vibe don't ya think?

Renon from CV64 bares a slight resemblance to James Lipton from Inside the Actor's Studio

Charle Vincent has indeed aged but also in sex appeal?

Great topic!

I must choose, without a doubt, Chupacabras from Lords of Shadows as the most ugly Castlevania character.
Then again, Lords of Shadows is the game with the most ugly characters in general, because it intended to be that way I think. They tried to make the monsters like what they are, monsters. I prefer them pretty, but it's a legit aproach.

About the characters you named, I find Baba Yaga ugly, Merchant and Renon kind of creepy.
Vincent Dorin seems like a nice guy. Brauner is, as you said, an elegant villain.
And Charles Vincent is a handsome old man... in some strange way. He's got class.

The Chupacabras in LoS are indeed ugly (and insulting) and that's only because they look nothing like the real-life counterparts.

I never cared for Vincent Dorin (or his stupid bowl cut).

Edit:

I also think Aeon and Irina belong together.

Max Slimer.

Hmm...I'm not sure about ugliest character, but in terms of sheer total ugliness, the CVIII Japanese cover takes the cake. It's like they scrounged up a handful of misshapen faces, gave Alucard a dork haircut and made Trevor look like a member of Whitesnake. One of my favorite games in the series has one of the worst covers.

Or, Christopher in his fur singlet. He looks like one half of a tag team with Superfly Jimmy Snuka.

I notice that a lot of the characters mentioned here are only ugly either through old age or art style, and that's a bit of an unfair comparison. That being said, if I had to pick someone for the trophy of ugliness, it'd be Judgment's Golem, but given that it's an obvious substitute for the Frankenstein's monster, that'd be normal for it.

I actually don't have anything against Irina; Aeon on the other hand reminds me of a muppet...

How about Grant from Judgement? like really, a Voldo Rip-off. Every one else grew on me!

Oh man. Judgement's version of Grant really takes the cake of ugliness.

Maxim Kishine...just not my cup of tea, but I suppose still considered a beautiful man by many standards. Oh, and Isaac from Curse of Darkness. I kinda have a thing for semi-skinny dudes (strictly aesthetically speaking, nothing deeper-personality is, amazingly, what actually counts if you wanna pique my interests), but he just...*shiver*....no. No thank you.

I suppose Medusa is the embodiment of ugliness.  For monsters, I've found the Evil Force in Order of Ecclesia to be particularly disgusting.  (https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages3.wikia.nocookie.net%2F__cb20090207183047%2Fcastlevania%2Fimages%2F0%2F03%2FEvilforce.gif&hash=d78a2b156a6ce4ce4f37209daa44e1f3)  Hmm, now I can't help but imagine a Medusa Head and an Evil Force head on a date..

That's definitely the uglier Castlevania enemy ever!

I find it funny that the there's a look to Evil Force that's almost Freddy Krueger-ish. That little facial expression looks very Robert Englund. I always thought Evil Force looked like Freddy with horns.

Even though the game was canceled, the designs for Resurrection was pure ass:

http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100311203430/castlevania/images/5/5f/Dream_castleres_screenshot37.jpg (http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100311203430/castlevania/images/5/5f/Dream_castleres_screenshot37.jpg)

And god, Sonia's eyebrows are ALMOST unibrowing in this one:
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100311203623/castlevania/images/e/e8/Dream_castleres_screenshot49.jpg (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100311203623/castlevania/images/e/e8/Dream_castleres_screenshot49.jpg)

How can you redesign a sexy yet badass design like this:

into "Olga, the Donkey Faced Woman"? It's a SIN!!!

Resurrection's Art-style was catering more to an American style then an anime one which is why Sonia's look isn't so pleasing to the eye. And since it was being made in america i guess that's what they wanted to go with. Personally I wish they had stuck to the anime art style as that's how we remember seeing her. But when you compare the two pics, the side-view of Sonia is much better then her full-on facial uni brow image.

I don't know. American art styles could craft some great female characters. Had they gone with a more comic-art style, we might've got a Sonia Belmont up to par, visually, with some of the Marvel and DC beauties. She didn't have to go all "horseface".

Ugh. Good Lord, you certainly do. Unfortunate that we all lose in the process though. Oh, oh no, oh God, I looked directly at it...here it comes... *wretches*

That they can. But they never use the better American-styled art when Resurrection was being developed.

Anything from the igarashis is the ugliest character, the men look like boys sometimes they look like girls, they learned from that and make lords of shadows that is ok, look at soma cruz, hideous, alucard the more overrated character in the history, and he is not pretty like they say everyone, he look ok in mirror of fate, in symphony of the night he is the same of all others men from igarashi castlevanias.

No i am very man, and i am not trolling because i am not gay as i say i am very man, i say the post up of here because i think that in reality, the characters from igarashis are the most ugly and the characters from cox are what they have to be, warriors, they look like mans not woman.

If you think that some character is gay only because of their beauty you need to search what "gay" means.

So feminine men = gay and masculine men = straight?

Hmm...

You keep using that word. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2y8Sx4B2Sk#)

The original term/meaning for 'Gay' is actually 'Happy'. It didn't become a homosexual reference until some time later on. I personally blame the stupid side of humanity for messing it up as they tend to do that with most everything else. I am personally not a fan of pretty-boys in Castlevania because I don't think that's how the series should perceive them to be. And certainly not if their swinging a steel 8 foot chain whip around and not have any muscle to show for it. Ayami Kojima's art-style is heavily laced with androgynous male figures and this has left her with a very limited tapestry with which to operate. However her overall designs for architecture, women and other elements are amazing and very detailed. I don't mind her art-style to an extent and I would hire her to do Castlevania piece, but I would let another artist do the guys.

No dear Sir Iga gave us the MANLIEST Belmont in the form of Julius. Name ONE other Belmont that could STILL Grand Cross in his 50's hard enough to RIP CHUNKS OF CASTLEVANIA apart.
