I have been developing this with Gamemaker studio 1 mostly, prior that used what ever Gamemaker version was availiable.
Sometimes I have compiled this in Gamemaker studio 2 but it seems to cause collision issues that cannot be resolved, even if I reload collisions maks reset them or what ever tried it all.
If you want to make something like this either use Gms2 OR Godot. I might be swapping for Godot in future projects after I finish Monolith a shin megami tensei like dungeon crawler (pictures below).

So it's been over a decade since I was last here. I figure I would show off my work to sort of announce my return. I've mostly gone back and revised the shading on my old upshaded sprites from the NES and gameboy Castlevanias (which I did over a few months ago) and added and took a crack at a spriting a few extra frames for a few enemies (being a recent thing) and took a crack at spriting enemies from later castlevania games (very recent, I am somewhat proud of the Jack O' Bones and Nova Skeleton). The sprites use a new custom palette of my own creation that meant to be rich and vibrant like a happy middlepoint between Rondo, SOTN and CV Chronicles in terms of colouration. I will admit that Dracula's Demon form is a slightly touched up version of it's depiction in the rare java port of Castlevania 1.
