I just wanted to share with you an obvious but quite nice Castlevania reference.

In the PC game Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (developed by Epic MegaGames), there is a level where the music and graphics are a massive tribute to Castlevania.

I can definitely see how this stage would give off that CV-ish feel. The music sounds like an adaption to the Castle entrance theme from SotN though it isn't the same song at all.
