The third Resident Evil movie will be releasing on May 27, 2017 in Japan. It's starring Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers. The new villain is a man named Glenn Arias (sp?), who has created a new strain of virus that can tell friend from foe. He claims to want "revenge", but it's currently unknown what it is.

Matt Mercer confirmed to me that he's doing Leon's voice in the film. It sounds like Roger Craig Smith and Stephanie Sheh reprised their roles as Chris and Rebecca, though they noticeably sound a bit different. Roger Craig Smith and Stephanie Sheh both confirmed over Twitter they are not reprising their roles, unfortunately. D.C. Douglas sounds like the voice of Arias to me.

The third Resident Evil CGI film will be releasing next year in 2017, confirmed to be titled Resident Evil: Vendetta.

The film will, once again, star Leon S. Kennedy, and it has a tie-in with Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, where in one of the major action scenes in the film, Leon will be riding their newest series bike, the XDiavel.

Article also announces most of the staff of the movie.

Only other info we know about it right now is that it was confirmed previously that both Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers will be making appearances in the film (making it the latter's first actual appearance since 2002's Resident Evil Zero).

Iunno, I really prefer the live action ones. They have a sense of cheese and campy over the top fun that just aren't present in the CGI films, and when the setting is "zombies", I've been burned out on "serious business" zombie flicks. Hence I prefer the overt silliness of the live action flicks, as well as stuff like Zombieland, Ash vs the Evil Dead, and Dead Alive.

I mean, if your zombie movie doesn't have something as ridiculous as this



chances will be that I don't want to see it at all.

I'm just happy they're finally making more RE films that actually follow the characters from the games.

As much as I like Jovovich, I'm getting kinda sick of Alice overshadowing literally every other character introduced.

I'm also really tired of HURR UMBRELLA'S THE ALWAYS-BAD GUY when they collapse in the game universe. It just feels like lazy writing to try and make things different and fresh (and fail horribly at it) when you have good plots already-written in the games.

Like, don't even get me started on tragic Nemesis and chubby-frat-douche-looking-no-accent Wesker.

Not entirely sure what you mean by this. I said in the first post that it's the third CGI film, starring Leon, like Degeneration and Damnation.

Oh, no. I know the live-action films were brought up. I just got the impression BMC was thinking Vendetta was one of them. If that's incorrect, then my mistake.

I figure talking about the live-action films is fair game here, since they're all Resident Evil movies anyway.



That being said, I also love Jovovich in the films. I actually dig the character of Alice. It's just the way the movies crap all over the game characters and lore that I don't like.

In the scriptwriter's defense, Wesker doesn't need to meet Chris and Claire at all in order to understand that what they're doing is seriously screwing with his evil plan. A text message from a minion would be sufficient to inform him of that, and given his resources, he's got a lot more to go on than a singe SMS for data gathering.

Since you brought them up...

Van Helsing is actually an excellent film as long as you don't conflate Triple-A with "good". Van Helsing and Underworld both accomplish everything they set out to do, and Underworld manages to also to enact some effective world building with an (at the time) novel take on Vampires and Werewolves. Neither is really a bad film, they just aren't Triple-A Summer Tentpole films (no matter how much the advertisers wanted them to be at the time). I'm game for a sequel from either, and I don't say that often about any film not-Marvel related.

Also Underworld Awakening made it clear they want one more film to wrap things up, and since this is a rare franchise that CAN come to an end, I say we give them that last film.

I, Frankenstein however, you are right on the money about. That was just an atrocious film and should only be spoken of in hushed tones as a cautionary tale. A true B-Movie trying to pretend to be something it's not.

The live action RE films are fine, but I'll admit fans of the games are unlikely to feel this way. The movies aren't really meant for fans of the games, as odd as it may sound, but rather for people like me who were ALMOST fans of the games but something about the games themselves prevented that. Think of them as an alternate universe version of Resident Evil (like Superman Red Son or The Dark Knight Returns), if that helps at all.

No, I refer to Van Helsing and Underworld specifically because I believe that they were pioneers of the "let's reinvent horror classic icons and turn them into BADASS FIGHTER PEOPLE BECAUSE WHY NOT" movement that has grown since their releases. I should have clarified.

Scriptwriter's defense nothing. If the villain finds the protag annoying, then I should see some exchange onscreen that illustrates how and why the villain feels this way. Not a one-off line out of nowhere.

What's more, how exactly COULD Chris and Claire do enough to become a hindrance to Wesker, when Alice is the Mary Sue that does all the work in every single movie she shows up in?

It's a senseless dialogue with no solid footing either way.

I'm also entirely able to watch the films with a disconnect from the games--I still think the films are sub-par because of how they're structured as films.

Perfect example--Nemesis. Comparing to the game, the tragic "oh it's the guy from the first movie she liked" backstory is completely stupid and nonsensical and adds an unnecessary element to the character.

NOT comparing to the game, that same tragic backstory also serves no purpose other than for Nemesis to save the day at the end of the film. That's the only film-universe reason for him to suddenly be a good guy again--to act as a sort of deus-ex-machina and save all the protags from otherwise likely doom because oh hey he's suddenly a good guy again and all that horrifying genetic and psychological restructuring and conditioning somehow got overturned because he remembered his boner for Alice.

I don't like the films because I think they're mediocre at best (I really only like the first one) and get increasingly shoddy with each successive release. That they butcher an already-solid canon found within the games is just an added bonus to my dislike of them.

Ironically, the second film in the series was supposed to be more of a throwback to the classic games by introducing characters like Jill Valentine, but test audiences had not played the games and didn't understand the significance attached to them, and immediately rejected the characters from the games, preferring Alice (who'd had a continuing arc from the last film), which effectively killed any chance to pass on the main character torch as originally planned.

This is a perfect example of why you should never do everything your test audience says.

I'm glad someone else had stated that I, Frankenstein was bad. That movie was abysmal, and I was really hyped for it when it was releasing.

I'm just gonna say that I actually really like the first movie. I thought it was a pretty good Resident Evil adaptation, and I found the plot intriguing. It's Apocalypse onward where I thought they were pretty garbage.
