The Beer/Alchohol Thread

I had to start a thread eventually, so I thought I'd pick the least serious topic I could think of.

What kind of beer do you prefer? Why? Cost? Taste? Amount of hops?

Personally, my favorite is this shit right here.

It's a smooth lager with a very slight hint of a grapish aftertaste at the end? It's hard to explain, maybe it's just a little smokey or something.

It's like 10 bucks for a 6 pack, which is pretty steep, but it's still really good.

I've yet to try a Czech pilsener (pilsner?) I think the spelling my vary by region, like whisky and whiskey.

Can someone verify whether pilseners are the happy medium between ales and lagers? I've been wondering this for quite some time now.

Many US based beers taste like water, some like Red Stripe don't (Jamaican origins), and one out of Houston called St Arnold's has a nice old school beer taste.

I'm more of a vodka and whiskey guy though, will never touch Jagermeister ever again, that shit tastes like crap. In the old days I used to drink a little Gold Schlagger, stuff was 150 proof and very very strong, contained gold flakes in it.

I'm a sucker for a good pint of Blue Moon Belgian Wheat Ale, mixed with a slice of Orange.

Also a HUGE fan of Cuba Libres late at night. Nothing better.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

I only ever tried beer once and it was just a sip. Needless to say I wasn't impressed on any level. As for wine...one tiny glass during Christmas a very long time ago and nothing since. My bro on the other hand has drinks during gaming campaigns with his buddies. The one beverage he told me never to try (and believe me I won't) is a chines alcohol called Jin jiu. I don't know how it's actually spelled but this is as close as I can get since the internet search isn't helping me right now  :P  Anyways his friend tried it and to him it tasted like sweaty Gorilla's feet. When my bro tried it he said it tasted like ass and not the good kind either. The beverage starts out ok. Smooth going down, etc. But then it hits you. the really awful aftertaste that sticks with you long after the drink is gone. And it makes you burp. And when you burp you taste that awful taste all over and over again. A terrible reminder to how bad the drink was.

I've heard good things about Blue Moon, I'm sure if I've had it or not, but does it have a blueberry flavor to it?

Tasting one beer is no reason to give up. Try higher end stuff, since all cheap beer basically tastes the same with few exceptions.

It's funny 'cause I actually got back from a local beer-fest. I was surprised to find out my country has some really nice micro-brews. So many different kinds and tastes of beer, it kinda opened my mind and I am now less beer-racist than I was before.

Who gave this a -1? Seriously? It's true. Try a darker import beer. You'll be surprised how much of a difference it makes.

I'm also fairly fond of Budlite Lime.

prolly a nerd who's never experienced a college party lol

I've tasted most of the beers listed in this thread, and honestly i enjoy almost all of 'em! Blue Moon I have everytime I go to Friday's. The orange makes it too citrus-y sometimes and can get you sick

sometimes i go to the beer distributor & pick up some Blueberry Ale. this thread makes me happy; i'm glad my fellow Dungeonites enjoy their HOPS every so often, instead of being a bunch of uptight "nope never tried anything alcoholic EVERR!!" prudes  8)

Not really. It's strongly flavored, and to me it presents an almost soapy aftertaste without the orange, which it's own brewers admit it was intended to go with.

I used to HAAAAATE beer.  I actually have a story about this, which I will share now:

I was vacationing down in South America to see some relatives and unwind for a few weeks.
When we got there, there was a water shortage due to the extreme weather season.  As a result, water was rationed to some periods throughout the day, and people were encouraged to bottle up whatever they'd get during that time.  Anyway, my family was having a major party that night at a relatives' house on their terrace.  However, because there were 40+ people there, the water became quite short.

All they had was a beer in a green bottle similar to a Heineken, only it was South American, just called "Club".  Because it was the only drink that was Ice Cold, and because the humidity and temperature were quite high that day, I had no choice but to drink it, despite my previous hatred of beer (I didn't used to like it because of the bitter taste and because the smell was odd).

It was the best feeling... a nice cold beer on a hot day.
The closest to that feeling, in the USA, is when I have a Heineken on a hot day in New York.... which I had today. ;)
