Looks nice, but I do have some issues with it. first off, the fact that the hero seems to be wielding the whip in 1776 and is a Lecarde. Even if the Lecarde family were related to the Belmont family at that time, the Lecarde family wouldn't have the vampire killer. Then again, it could be a different magical whip. My point is that this game takes before the Belmonts vanished and were unable to touch the whip until 1999 (something which was never explained).
If it was a Lecarde wielding the Alucard Spear after the year 1797, I wouldn't have any issues. That's just my 2 cents.

darkwzrd4 i see you've got great knowledge of the Castlevania history . :D
Thanks for your reply .

You're right ! that is why the  whip's name won't be "VAMPIRE KILLER" but "ALCARDE WHIP".

Judging by the video that actually looks pretty good. I'm fairly impressed. Nothing looks particularly lacking considering it is a fan game, be it visual, audio, or even stage design. Most fan games are terrible with stage design. I'll have to play it myself to get a total feel for it, but interesting so far.

Consider that I am saying this as someone who owns a video game company.

This looks really good man! I like everything but the title. Moonlight Opera just sounds so cliché for a Castlevania title. This game looks great, by the way. Almost reminds me of the screen shots I saw years and years ago of a game that never was called Castlevania Shin Dracula X (which was most likely a hoax).

Anyways, I'm sure it's too late to change your title and I'm sure a lot of people like it. I just hope it doesn't get lost in the mix of sub-par CV fan games that have titles just like that. I gotta say, this is one of the most promising fan CV games I've ever seen.

Great work! I can't wait to play it!
Title: Re: Castlevania moonlight opera 2013
Post by: X on April 29, 2013, 05:35:14 PM
I'll definitely want to play this. Please get this thing finished!

I also agree that the name is rather cliché. IGA has used music-based titles in almost all of his CV games that is does start to wear out rather fast. So rather then relying on a music-based title why not go with something that will describe what the game is about. For instance; The game is about the Lecarde family correct?. Why not call the game Castlevania: The Lecarde Legacy Or The Lecarde Chronicles.

I really liked what i have seen in the video, like uzo said, it's very difficult to find a good fan made game, but yours it's looking very nice so far.

I second that

Question: will this take place in the IGA canon or an original one?
Also, "Alcarde" in Bloodlines was a mistranslation of "Alucard", just saying.
Title: Re: Castlevania moonlight opera 2013
Post by: Belmontoya on April 30, 2013, 10:28:59 AM
I personally would not bother trying to jam the story to fit with the IGA canon. After all, it's a fan game. It can never really exist in the IGA story line anyways.

Just a thought!

:) Well well well...

Thanks for yours comments . They are heart warming to me .. I'm a great fan of castlevania and i spent 3 years to make that .

I have to deal with some minors changes and bugs.....I think the game will be available in a couple of weeks . I've said the game ......And not a demo . It will be a complete game with a begining and an ending .

What i like here , is that i learn lots of things .....

I did not know the ALCARDE world "history" .  ;D   .

Maybe i will change the game's name for LECARDE CHRONICLES . That is a good idea thanks MontoyaGraphics and X you will be credited in the game . in the "special thanks" part .

Thanks everybody .

I hope you'll like the game .

I did not spaek about the game . Only Jorge D fuentes and other  people i needed the music were informed . If i made a game with musics without asking for permission of the makers , they would not like that . ;)

I hope to not disapoint you , Uzo .I'm feeling very proud with what you did say .

I repeat that . I DID not ripped the graphics they were all made by myself ( with lots of castlevania inspiration of course . That will give to the game a unique looking . I wanted to avoid the DEJAVU looking effect of the games notably made with ripped graphics .

Other problem game's resolution is 640X480 . If i used ripped graphics they would have been very smalls  ;D.

I will give you the release date as soon as possible of CASTLEVANIA : LECARDE CHRONICLES.

I did not speak of the game so far ....Why ?
Because lots of peole do fan games demos ...The fans are waiting for ....Then the game is cancelled  :-[ it's is frustrating ; I could have cancelled for thousands of reasons .

MontoyaGraphics is right ... Is a fan game really need a storyline that enters the series canon ?

Nevertheless i think that the game has a storyline that will not a source of troubles.. I hope.

Now THIS is what a fan game should look like! It's great to see that you tried to put in some new surprises, and that you actually put in lots of new gfx (a VERY difficult task). You even went so far as to put in a map, movelist, and a menu.

This looks really impressive from the video. Hopefully it plays as good as it looks.

Also to be blunt: who gives a DAMN about the story or what he calls it. Just look at how good this guy's game looks.  ;D

LOL, how did a simple question about the story end up making you worry? Chill.
Anyway, I don't really care if the story takes place in IGA timeline or not. Even if the story is bare-bones, as long as it's sensible enough it's okay in my book.

Wow! Honestly I was not expecting this. Thanks for the mention, but you don't have to as I was only throwing suggestions your way. Still if you want to then it's okay by me :)

It'll be a first timer  ;D

This is art! I love the fact that you used the Bloody Tears music from CV Legend in the trailer. Also this game looks like a original game to me, you did everything right in my opinion. (some things can be improved, but you are certainly in the right path)

HOLY SHIET! This looks AWESOME.

I have to ask though, what style of game is this? It seems to have all the moves and upgrades of a metriodvania, but has some sort of stage select? Or is this some in-between?

Regardless of game style, it look as if a lot of effort was put into it. Congratulations on all the hard work! B)

Well !

It's a new concept ( i think ) of castlevania Games .

You can choose an area in the map . Areas are unlocked by completing previous ones .
You can enter a cleared area to get some items you could not before( lack of the needed skill  ).
Title: Re: Castlevania moonlight opera 2013
Post by: Belmontoya on May 03, 2013, 04:10:42 PM
This sounds like it's something akin to Castlevania Dracula X: Rondo of Blood. As far as the map with being able to revisit completed areas. Being able to upgrade your character and enter new areas of levels adds another dynamic to the mix for sure though!

Not exactly new, Order of Ecclesia's exploration system was pretty much like this. Still, nice choice though.

This hack looks pretty darn great! ;D

Although I must admit, when I heard the Lecarde part I was hoping for some spear combat, not whip. :-[

But that is just my opinion, but regardless of that the game still looks fun, keep up the great work guys. ;)

I have updated the first message you can now download the game  ;D

I CAN modify the game if it has a SERIOUS BUG  :P I hope it won't ; The final game was under BETA TESTING during a month . It should be BUG FREE. ;D ;D ;D

I have worked on that for 3 years ... I' am exhausted by the game  :P  :P :P :P . So please do not ask me to change things like" A red bone skeleton  more would be great in that stage ..."

By the way . How do you put a direct Youtube Video in a message ?  :-[
I only know how to put the link..

I hope you will enjoy the game . Thanks  everybody  ;)

This is awesome I played a little of the game and I must say that it is amazing!!! It has the feel of the Haunted Castle without all of its uncomfortable controls.

I must admit it is too hard for me because I am more like Metroidvania player but I will definitely play it again and try to overcome the levels!!!

I played up to stage 4, and I have to say that so far the game is REALLY fun, with some nice new twists in it! Great choices in music, and good enemy placement too. Looking forward to playing it a whole lot more over the next few days!

EDIT: lol at the baby stone roses! Ironically, I just finished coding in the stone rose from SOTN today!  ;D

It was a bit frustrating to get things setup the way I wanted it, but once I got it running good and with the controls I want, the game hooked me for a long time.

I got to the castle's first stage. I only took a break because the game glitched up (screen wouldn't show) when I tabbed out of it to check something resulting in the entire thing having to be closed.

It's a great game so far. You should be proud of the work you've done here. It plays really well, not many glitches that I've witnessed. Nice upgrade system, good boss fights, lots of neat ideas littered around every stage. I'll go over it all in more detail perhaps, but after I finish the game. So far I am very impressed. The attention to detail is really something to behold, especially for a fan game. There are a few issues I see but I'll get to that some other time.

I have not been this gripped by a game in some time. It has been a pleasure to play thus far.

Using Xbox360 controller on this gives a very shitty control scheme (X to jump, Y to attack)... how to change it???

And how do we keep the aspect ratio of the game with 19:6 resolutions? Ok, just did it. Now to the controls problem...

I didn't get very far into the game but I liked what I was playing. And yeah the control mapping is proving to be somewhat of an inconvenience. I never could get Joy2key to work on my machine so I stuck using controls where the jump and attack buttons are in the wrong place. for the microsoft pad, the X button should be attack while the A button should be Jump, And also the analogue stick shouldn't take the place of the D-pad. Other then that this is a great game.

Well, XBOX360 has the worst D-PAD of the entire world, so it's not like I really care about using it... anyway.

Thanks for the tip uzo. Doing that.

Hi everybody !

Thanks for what you said  :D

I did not thought that the game was HARD . But i cannot be objective , because i know the game by heart ...

 Here some advices :
-Do not forget "upgrade items" in previous areas wich could not be reached at first time because of the lack of a skill .
-Do not hesitate to use ITEM CRASHES they cause lots of damages
-The Whirlwind attack tears  enemies in very few time.If you are hurt by a boss do not hesitate to use that skill while you're invincible ( after the hurt  ;) ) .
-The game is fair there are not monsters or attacks that cannot be avoided .observe carefully enemies's patterns ,( especially Bosses ).

- There are lots of games that can be very difficult regardless your knowledge of them.
I think that in my game , the player can progress little by little . When you know an area , the 2nd time will be easier etc..
I don't wanted a game that could be done in one breath . I wanted a game with challenge but not impossible . The game is possible even if you are not an hardcore gamer ;) It is a promise .

I cannot change the joypad setup  :'(  THe game will recognize  the 4 first buttons of it )
But as UZO said there is a wonderful software : JOY2KEY  .It emulates THE KEYBOARD . You can with it , choose the buttons locations on your joypad . Do not forget to "FORCE KEYBOARD" in the OPTIONS of the game .

Exemple : Input that when you push the button 4 of your pad , it's like if you push the G button on the keyboard.

I have spent so much time on this game that i couldn't play another things .
I would like to discover new fan games . If anyone can give me advices of good Castlevania Fangames it would be great ..

Thanks everybody  ;D

Post by: Esco on May 16, 2013, 08:44:45 PM
All right, after beating the game I now feel that I have a LOT more to say about it:

The good:
*It's a really fun game that makes you want to go back and play it again, just to get better at it
*Mig proved that less can be more; by NOT trying to add 1001 extra moves, and just add in several, VERY useful ones.
*All new/redrawn gfx; nuff said!  ;D This was great to see, and I know that this had to take a TON of time and effort to complete! There were one or two (I.E. the horses) that could have used a bit more work. But overall the game just looks OUTSTANDING!
*Very creative stages, with unique hazards in each of them, that really add to the fun factor of the game
*EXCELLENT MUSIC! Tons of outstanding remakes!
*Challenging, but fair!
*An EXCELLENT length game! It gives you hours of enjoyment!
*Lots of references to other castlevania games! Gives you an excellent feel of nostalgia! You can tell a LOT of love went into this game and hard work.

Now for the bad:
*The ICON USED FOR THE DOUBLE JUMP PICKUP IN GAME IS WRONG! IT HAS THE SLIDE ONE USED FOR IT INSTEAD; IT IS CORRECT ON THE MAP THOUGH (not important; just letting Mig know)
*Up close to enemies/walls the whip totally misses: this is a hugely annoying issue.
*No scoring or ranking system for stage performance: this would have added a HUGE amount more depth too the game, not to mention quite a bit more fun factor too. It's a huge shame that this was not done.
*The last boss: WOW Mig, what were you thinking? You basically created a last boss that you have unlimited attempts to beat, by putting in a 1up right before her. Talk about pointless. As for the battle itself, for the first part you can literally just whip her until her shield shatters, then just use the whip spin to beat her instantly; the food she drops and the fly (WTF?) hives drop ensure you will have 100% health. The 2nd part of the last boss right was a HUGE disappointment. I mean seriously, what the heck man?
(click to show/hide)
*The typos in the text: holy hell are there a lot of them man! You really should have had someone else proof read them for you. They are everywhere.  :o This isn't really important though honestly, and it actually gives it a kind of simon's quest feel to it.
*Stairs: they needed MUCH more work; all kinds of stuff happened with them, from it being hard to jump on them, so me falling thru blocks because of them
*Hitboxes: several of them need to be messed with. and corrected. 2 perfect examples: the scarecrows, and the spike traps for puppet master; there were WAY too big to the point where touching blank space around them damaged me. I even got killed by a small white bat when charging forward, when all it looked like I hit was air.
*a FEW Cheap tricks: while I appreciated most of the dirty traps you put in (as I said above; it was challenging but fair) there were 1 or 2 that I felt never should have been put into the game. One perfect example of a very poor one: one of the last stages where you have to drop down, hold right; then drop AGAIN and hold right AFTER going thru a hellish room. Both times falling blindly. If you don't do this: you die and get to go thru a hellish room full of spikes again. Stuff like this is just annoying.
*Crashes: MMF crashed about 3 times while playing it; luckily never in the last few stages. ;) It was at different places, and gave a windows error each time. No idea what caused them, but I know how this goes.
*No way to skip cutscenes: not a big deal since there aren't many.
*No way to pause with the controller without joy2pad: no excuse for this NOT to have been implemented.

Overall, I recommend this game to ANY castlevania fan! It is an EXCELLENT piece of work, with only a few rather minor flaws (though the list of bad things above looks long, it isn't; I just went into great detail)! This game is exactly the type of quality stuff more people in this "community" need to put forth!

On that note: I'm off to beat it again!  ;D

Well  :)

Thanks  Esco for your constructive comment .You have spent time for it and i have respect for that .

I don't come back on good points you gave  ;D . Thanks !

The Bad points ! You are merciless ? No problem i like that  ;D
First i want to say that :

1 I will change things .
2 That game is killing me  :-[ I have worked so much that now is a real pain for me to work again on it .Additionally ,i have a lot of work with my regular job .. So i cannot change too many things ,only the most important ones . :-\

1 Double jump icon . Ok , easy to fix .

2 I will increase the Whip's hit box

3 The ranking system . It may be hard for me to settle this  :-[

4 Final battle . Many people say that the game is too hard , and i think they will  give up
before that point . So i don't want to increase difficulty . The battle with the very last boss may be a "mad house" , without a recovered life bar .
(click to show/hide)
That flies/wasp mess up ? Ok you're right  ;D But ... It is really important ? Anyway if someone draws a wasp to replace the flies i will input it  :)
The final boss appearance ? I think that is subjective  :-\ I wanted to do a reference to another Castlevania's boss .
(click to show/hide)
.

5 The typos ?  :P   Well.. English is not my first language . I'm french and my parents come from Spain . Anyway if someone Give me a good version of the texts that have flaws , i will change that .
Simon's quest is a great game  ;D

6 Stairs ? I will try to enhance that.

7 Hit boxes ? Strange because the hit boxes of that monsters are exactly their sprite  :o
You may have been touched by the bat while it's wings were deployed .

8 I don't see exactly what part of the game it is . Are you speaking of the RIP ROOM ?

9 Crashes ? Ok i see what they cause them . I will change that . fortunately they are very rare . Players . Do not forget to save as many possible.

10 The cut scenes are so shorts  :'( and there are so few .

11 Ok ! I will input a fifth button to pause the game with joypad . You can pause the game even playing with the joypad by pushing SPACE on the keyboard .

--------------------------------------------------------------------
By the way I'm going to make an easier version of the game for those who consider that the game is to much difficult . less monsters, less damages , more food , less traps more powerful weapons etc..

Those who think that the game is too difficult should play through Castlevania 1,3 and Bloodlines. Good games are supposed to be difficult. It's the challenge that makes the victory of beating a good game so sweet. There's little point to playing a game that offers no challenge and just hands a victory over to you. That's just lazy gaming. The Lecarde Chronicles is a hardcore Castlevania. And if you ask me, it feels damn good to be challenged by a Castlevania again.
:P

Excellent Jeu Mig. Vraiment, un vrai castlevania. Je vais continuer en anglais pour les autres. This game is great. I've reach the castle and just got the spike whip. I must agree with what has been said concerning the difficulty. The game is not for kiddies and this is what makes it great. For castlevania fans of yore, we all know how hard these games could be and yet, this is what made them so fun to play. You actually feel rewarded when you finally beat a tough boss or just progress to the next room. This could have been a professional game for all I'm concerned. Keep up the good work Mig. Looking forward to the updated versions of your other works!

Welcome to the Dungeon, Sabin! Speaking of him, he was my brother's favorite character while Edgar was mine. Kind of funny that the brothers picked the brothers as their favorite characters.

I know that feeling for sure!  ;D

3 The ranking system . It may be hard for me to settle this  :-[

Not really; all you need is three more things in game:

1)Assign point value for each enemy (you can make any enemy that spawns infinitely worth just 10 points so it cannot be abused; projectiles should be worth NOTHING)
2) A timer: this way someone can't infinitely stand around in a stage farming points. Just like in the old Castlevanias
3)bonus points for hearts left at end of stage: for those that want more challenge it gives an incentive NOT to waste them. Potential for higher score.

With those 3 things, you would just need to figure out how many points = which rank in each stage. That is if you actually want to put this in. You would need to also save the score each type the player hits a "checkpoint." So if the player dies, the score for that stage goes back to what it was before they died, so that player's don't kill themselves multiple times in a high point region, just to bloat their score. You would also probably want to put in a penalty for each death point wise.

If you end up choosing to do this feel free to write me if you need help figuring out a system that works.

4 Final battle . Many people say that the game is too hard , and i think they will  give up
before that point . So i don't want to increase difficulty . The battle with the very last boss may be a "mad house" , without a recovered life bar .

Giving someone infinite tries to beat the last boss makes it seem pointless; a little less food would be a good idea too. But like I mentioned, I didn't like the 2nd part of the last boss battle as a whole; it was very tedious and boring as a whole. First part would have been good, if it wasn't because I basically can get full life after. But that's just my 2 cents.

Also about having unlimited tries: in stage B, you have it set up at a certain point where you respawn right in front of a 1up, and a minute later, there is another. Yet another area where you have unlimited tries to beat it, and can actually accumulate an extra life each time by suiciding. Which kills the point of disabling continues; just having the 2nd 1up and erasing the first is still a lot.

It might be a good idea to implement something where 1-ups only spawn once per continue, instead of per life so they can't be collected over and over.

Quote
5 The typos ?  :P   Well.. English is not my first language . I'm french and my parents come from Spain . Anyway if someone Give me a good version of the texts that have flaws , i will change that .
Simon's quest is a great game  ;D

I could do that if I can find the time this upcoming week.

Quote
7 Hit boxes ? Strange because the hit boxes of that monsters are exactly their sprite  :o
You may have been touched by the bat while it's wings were deployed .

That would be your problem there; if you check other castlevania games you will notice that the player's hitbox is slightly smaller than the actual player. Same for enemies. But for 95% of things it was good; there were just a handful that needed tweaking.

Quote
I don't see exactly what part of the game it is . Are you speaking of the RIP ROOM ?

Lol, no (though that RIP ROOM was a NINTENDO STYLE DIRTY TRICK!!! But I LIKE IT!!!!!  :D ), what I was referring to was in the bugbear room (shattering windows from red blasts room). Though I was just giving a good example of what I meant.

Quote
Crashes ? Ok i see what they cause them . I will change that . fortunately they are very rare . Players . Do not forget to save as many possible.

I just got one near the end of STAGE B. I can't tell you how pissed I was. lol

Quote
By the way I'm going to make an easier version of the game for those who consider that the game is to much difficult . less monsters, less damages , more food , less traps more powerful weapons etc..

Personally I thought the difficulty level was perfect. People just need to practice more and use some thought and finesse. Rather than trying to charge in and ignore hits like people can do in the metroid vanias and survive.

I really like this game (which is VERY rare for me when it comes to fan works), and the things above were just suggestions and things I noticed that I felt might help make it even better. This is truly impressive work regardless.

Alright I sat down to play this and just...wow. The production value for this game is extremely high, and I can feel the blood, sweat, tears, and soul you've poured into this. The sound effects mix all sorts of stuff from Capcom beat'em ups, SNES games like Actraiser, and all sorts of blips and bloops from various Castlevania's (like Bloodlines). Great SNES/Genesis-esque game you made here. You have these great "jump scares" when the terrain unexpectedly changes. You've got scrolling environments in multiple layers (like the background isn't a static scrolling image. Each layer scrolls at a difference pace giving great sense of traveling. You've got false finishes to a stage (like when it starts raining in stage 1 I thought it was over).
My only MINOR issue so far is I did not know your entire control scheme uses the numpad keys, so it took me longer to get Joy2Key configured correctly.

Though i have not gotten deep in the game only 3 areas so far(damn mermans under bridge). I can confirm it does work on vista 32 os. It hangs with the vsync option though so just use d39. Grantged i have' played through all the way.

But yeah game is friggin' awesome so far. Interesting new style graphics. The most impressive thing so far imho is the landscape and level design. Wow Mig you really nailed it! Everytime i move i'm compelled to see what's beyond the player. Tottally awesome!

Thanks everybody  :)

SabinFigaro cela fait plaisir de voir un compatriote sur ce forum . Merci pour les compliments .

Well !

I have updated the game in order to change some flaws..THe new file is uploaded an can be downloaded at the same place . You can use the new one it won't affect the previous SAVED DATA  .

Changes :
-Enhanced whip's Hitbox . You can now strike a wall while being very close of it .
-Stairways are easier to get when you jump upon them .
- Game crashes . I have cleared the game of  corrupted  elements that could make the game to crash .( the most important )

I have no time at the moment to change other things .
I have noted what it has been said .I could do some changes other time .
Esco has said some interesting things ( too many lives ,rating system,etc..)
By the way , CONTINUES are available in the last part of the game ! It's the SAVE OPTION which is no longer available .

I tried to put the PAUSE on the default gamepad play . I won't enter into  boring explanations but MMF2 does not allow to QUIT pause with the pad ! the SPACE key must be pushed.. :-\
JOY2KEY is a great solution to set PAUSE on the gamepad . It's also allows to set the buttons's usage .
The game allows to choose different keys on the keyboard than the default ones .CONTROLS OPTIONS .

I'm reassured that lots of players say the difficulty is OK  ;)

Anyway I may built an easier , different file game  . The current game will still be the GENUINE one .

I hope you enjoy the game  :)

yeah i noticed Vista 32 bits with vsync on d39 doesnt' work well(certain areas hang). But regular d39 works very good. I dunno how windows 7 is. But older os's maybe don't use the vsync. It may help from causing the game to freeze.

Thanks for your comments  :)

Eryson,I see you know my previous games  ;)   Well.. You even know Silver Katana !!!  ;) ;)
The problem is that I have lost The Root file . So i cannot update it with MMF2  :-[

i see you have a trouble with Lecarde Chronicles ? :P
I looked at the picture and i know what is going on . Your Video card 3d functions are not strong enough !

1 I know how to modify the game for it to be OK on your computer .
2 I'm really sorry but i cannot do that right now , i am swamped with work and other things .

I will change that but later .I'm really sorry  ???  I would need a list of "VANISHED BACKGROUNDS" if it's possible . I hope they are few .

Anyway ,You can walk on the soil even if you don't see it . A bit weird , it's true  :'(

By the way i will Built the Engine of a new Castlevania Fan game . Montoya graphics will make the ARTISTIC part of the game . GFX,Story, Musics . It will be a real NEW expérience . 8)

I don't want to speak too much of that since it's the MontoyaGraphics's project .

He does himself his proper Musics  An they are Really GREAT !!!! He made some for Lecarde Chronicles . For exemple ; Ruins  1 , Introduction ,Ending , Basement 4 , Hunting ground 2 ,etc..

And some FX sounds too ( Efrain's death etc..)

Hey Mig!

It`s incredible that a Fan has made this Castlevania game. Congratulations!!! Good Work!
Programming a game is a challenging work and to do the graphics  :o Wow!
The Quality of your game is as good as commercial castlevania games.

Lacarde goes to Austria like in Circle of the Moon where Ethan Graves
went there too. "At an old Austrian Castle".
It's funny as I saw that, because I am from Austria.

In the town "Ruhigestadt" is a INN named "Die Golder adler".
We in Austria write it "Der goldene Adler".
And the INN in Ruhigestadt "Die Weisse Einhorn" to "Das weisse Einhorn".

Else, I've found no bugs in the game.

Sorry for bad english. :)

I've been playing this. Mig, this is fantastic! The graphics are beautiful, the ideal mood of Castlevania is very well captured (far moreso than most of the recent official Castlevanias). The story is cool, and the game is really fun! Very challenging as well. I've done a lot of dying, but as you've said here, it's all possible to get through. Great work! I've been sharing this with some of my buddies who are also into Castlevania. They've also been impressed.

I will wait till full release, unless it is full and he just didn't update the first thread. But I watched the video and gotta say just at a glance the layout looks good. Good level design is key to a fun game, IMO. If the levels don't make sense, it doesn't feel right. As for controls, obviously I can't say anything until I get around to playing it.  :P

Hi !

I've been asked by many people to input different languages in the game. The player could select . english/french/spanish/german .

I can make the french and spanish translation because i do understand both languages . I also understand  german but i am a beginner so it's more difficult for me .

If someone could make the german translation it would be great . Anyone who can do that will be welcome to MP me . :)

I can hook you up with a Swedish translation, have a Swede buddy. I kinda remember German grammar, but I've been out of high school for ... for... oh my god I can't even remember. Since 1998. How long ago was that? No, don't tell me. Can also get ya Japanese. Would say Chinese, but my half-brother's probably forgotten most of what he grew up with (was adopted from a Chinese foster center at 10).

Hi TheouAegis !

Your help will be welcome !
Don't bother with german ..Swedish and Japanese  translations would be really great. ;D
And Chinese ... :o...If it's possible that would be perfect but do not bother with that if it's a problem.

If you are ok for  that ; i'll send you the texts of the game . Take all the time you want there is no hurry ...

Hey Mig :)

First of all, I wanted to say that you have created a fantastic game. Every single inch of the game has more heart and soul put into it than most of the recent Castlevania games.  8)
I played through the entire game and I really love what you have done. There were many things I loved, and some I didn't love...

Pros:
*Content: For a fan game, this has more content than most full releases do. The numerous levels and the difficulty of the game make the game seem almost staggering in size. The many upgrades and powers you could obtain made Efrain feel powerful, but also balanced.
*Art: The game is beautiful, without a doubt. Every area is fun and well designed. My favorites were the Hunting Lodge, the Dungeon, and Epilogue B.
*Music: The game has great remixes. Many songs fit and there where none that I felt were irritating to listen to or unfitting.
*Gameplay: The game plays fantastically. Platforming is fun (save for a few areas) and the enemy variety is incredible. I think it actually has more enemies than Super Castlevania did.
*Difficulty: Although it spiked sharply at points, the difficulty was fun and fair. The fakeouts and traps in the game were fantastic.
*Story: Great story. I like that it wasn't Dracula for once that was the final boss, and the setting in Austria was awesome as well.

Now unfortunately... (I'm long winded, its actually just examples of such issues here). :'(
Cons:
*Technical Problems: Like any game, there are some problems here. For instance, in the science lab, I died frequently on the falling bookcases. Every time I tried to jump to one, I would miss the small jump box and fall to my death. Eventually, I had to just jump on the first three, then air dash to the fifth one mid fall so I had enough time to jump off. Additionally, on the same level, the chess miniboss was a bit finicky. At times, the Bishop (which flies diagonally) would get stuck at the top of the ceiling and would not come back down. If I had an axe this was no problem, but it would sometimes force me to suicide to try the area again.
*Hit-boxes: This is an extremely minor complaint. Some hit-boxes were too large for the areas they were intended. The golem boss's giant spike balls were difficult to dodge because the safe spot was so difficult to jump through on the first one. The final level also had some areas that I could never get past without hitting a ceiling spike or floor spike. I don't know if this is simply because I suck at dodging or because of a hit-box issue.
*platform visibility: Some platforms (in a few levels) were a bit difficult to make out. I actually died on the first level because I thought I had to jump down a pit. It wasn't until AFTER I died that I noticed the platforms blended into the gate and foliage a few feet from the ledge.

Other than the issues I listed (which are more long winded than extensive) I loved this game. I really can't complain about the issues too much (Despite my comments) because the game is entirely free.

You really created a masterpiece here, and I hope one day Konami will make something half as good as this again one day.

9.7/10. You deserve a freaking medal for this masterpiece.

Okay, this thing is amazing. Although I think I've run into a glitch. When I was in the North Mountains stage, the entirety of the first room had no floor tiles. I initially thought you did this intentionally, but the rocky backdrops were floating in most instances, so I'm assuming that the tiles just weren't showing.

And also, kudos on the difficulty level. Very few games can get me cursing at the screen, and this is one of the good kinds.

Ok OK !!!!! . I will fix that in the next "SMALL" update .

This update will have :

-Text correction . The English mistakes will be removed ( Thanks to MontoyaGraphics ).
-Graphical correction . The ground in North mountains part 1 will be visible even for those who not have a strong GFX card .

NEXT BIG update :

Language select : French,English,Spanish,German ....It would be really great if someone could make a Japanese translation  ;D . The game could be played by japanese people with the name :
Akumajo The Lecarde Chronicles.

I hope this is not a bad question, but have you ever given thought to potentially posting the game on Steam?

On the off chance you are not aware of it: Steam has a Green Light system that allows its fan base to decide which indie developers they like games from, and to "Green light" games for them to be posted for anyone to download on steam.

Additionally, the games that are green lit do not have to have a price: the game "Cry of Fear" is a free fan-mod game that was green lit some time ago, with no cost to download.

I do not know if fan games of a franchise are considered copyright infringement (and I pray they are not), but I simply wanted to suggest it for when you intend to no longer update the game. It would allow you to make more players aware of The Lecarde Chronicles through a popular gaming vendor, and it would still be possible to keep it a free fan game.

I do not know how the process works, so I apologize if my idea bears no fruit or even potentially causes problems for you down the line. I simply wanted to see if the idea came across as a good way to get the word out.

If you do attempt to put it on Steam, I hope and pray all is successful and this glorious game gets a bigger fan base, because it deserves one and I don't know how else to get people to notice this.

Sincerely,
EmperorZephyr

Under Steam's rules and regulations he would need written permission from Konami themselves to be able to post it for Greenlight. As well as pay a 100$ fee just to list it.

The first requirement is pretty much impossible, so it won't work.

I have to agree with uzo. Steam is a legit company and to feature a fan game based on a popular franchise would be next to impossible. However if it could be done then the implications of recognition for this game would skyrocket very quickly.

So, I'm not too far into this (and I mean not very far at all). I've only unlocked the ruins and hunting grounds. So, far I'm enjoying it. I like how it sparks your interest to go further. Pretty much from what I'm played is the way I want Castlevania to go back too. All in all I'm looking forward to playing more of it. One thing though and that's what do the green hearts do?

Green hearts will restore your SP.
You use SP to power things like the Whirlwind Attack, and other unique powers you find in the game. With the exception of the Whirlwind, the power drain from using the abilities is minimal.

Hey, good to see that Montoya finally found someone to help him in programming, cool :D

Also, I can translate this game to Brazilian Portuguese (Português do Brasil)? I cant guarantee that I can do this yet, since I need to check the amount of text first, but since its my native language it should be easier to me.

I was just about to ask this, hilariously enough. Motion seconded.

Any chance you plan on putting the soundtrack available for download any time in the future?

The game's OST? Why not?

Lots of themes can already be found among the Jorge D Fuentes tunes.

MontoyaGraphics has opened a topic with the musics he made. They can be found here in the fan section.
Anyway,i can put a download of the songs made by B.Busta,Kevin MacLeod  and my proper remixes.

By the way, if you like good remixes of Castlevania themes don't forget to check the topic opened by Richter Belmondo. They are really great.

I'm right now correcting the texts of Lecarde Chronicles.I will also make minors changes that allow the player to quickly exit an area (when he find an item that was the only purpose of revisiting the area).

Thanks everyone that offered his help for the further translations. I will send you by MP, a file with the game texts. There is lots of time before that BIG release  ( 2 monthes at least) so.... There is no hurry.

Akumajo GAIDEN  will be OK  ;)  thanks VladCT.

Also thanks to EmperorZephyr for the steam idea. But it will be hard.
I'm not very good for publicity, i am only someone who like to create.Untill now my games were only featured in DailyClick ( Community of MMf,MMF2 creators) Maybe i will try other things like Hardcore Gaming 101 Romstation,etc..

Oh, so all or most of the game's songs are in threads here already? Cool.

The only one I knew already was Jorge's The Discolored Wall, but a few of the others I didn't immediately recognize and wanted to have.

It's okay. I still haven't finished this game yet either. The aquaduct part is giving me a really hard time and I'm kinda still on a break from it due to VG rage, and that was almost two months ago. It happens with some games I play that i find to be a little too difficult. While it's a really good game and captures that near-forgotten CV mood just right, the frustration level is hell for me as it far outweighs the enjoyment of the challenge.

Maybe a Easy Mode could be patched into a new build. So basically you can choose Easy Mode if you die too many times, but you won't see the real ending of the game etc.

Another thing I think should be changed/worked on is the fact that you have to do the blue-orb thing over again if you die in the first part of the Condemned Area. I know, I know, it's just for the first two rooms, but I've been knocked onto spikes many a time by the little dolls and a couple of the skeletons' placement is cheap at times. Just a personal gripe.

Uzo is right you guys. The challenge level of this game is matched almost perfectly to the classics.

I think making an easy mode for Lecarde Chronicles would be a step in the wrong direction. It takes actual hardcore gaming skill to beat it, and that's the way it should be.

Mig and I will definitely be bringing a challenge with The Rise of Castlevania. We've even planned a special challenge mode that will allow players to compete by posting their scores online.

If I may, and if you aren't tired of working on the game thus far, would it be possible to add a way to replay bosses?
Some of the boss fights in this game were genuinely fun, and I actually wanted to battle them a few more times for the hell of it.
However, if you beat a boss, the only way to re-fight them is to either not save after beating the level, or to replay the entire game over again.

If there was a kind of Boss Rush Mode, where after beating the game you can battle all of the games bosses in quick succession, it would add even more replay value to the game. Additionally, if it was timed, it would create something similar to the score system Montoya discussed.

Or, maybe it would be in lieu with what some of the DS Castlevanias did, and you could unlock different rushes (sets of bosses) to fight by completing a specific rush quickly enough.

I can't do much to improve the game (I have no programming talent at all) on a physical level, but I do want to try and suggest ways to make the game better than it already is.

I hope my suggestion is not unwanted, unneeded or useless in your current agenda. Again, Great job on the game and I love everything you put into making it!

Don't even try to be like Esco, it's not funny. Back when I was playing the classics the internet was still new. My family didn't get internet hookup till around 97, so I was still playing games on my consoles. And yes I conquered them all (at least the ones I had access to which was the NES, SNES, Gameboy, Genesis). The only one I didn't have was Rondo cause I didn't own the turbo-due system nor did I know how to import from other countries back then.

Haha, fair enough. I'm just really rusty is all. Unless you challenge yourself or find new ways to challenge yourself, you become stagnate. The last challenge I ever did was play through all of PC-98's Rusty, and this was back in 2003. So yeah...ten years later and I'm hella rusty.

Hi everybody! :)

I have updated the game ( small update). It is available at the same link on my page.
The new datas can replace the former ones without problem with "Save files".

The texts are now corrected ( better professional looking ) ;D
-The soil in Northern Mountains 1 will be visible even if you not  have a "top" gfx card.
- Fast "exit way" in Cave 2 and Maze of curtains 1 after the item is taken.

The Katharina's theme can be found in the Kevin MacLeod site http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/?genre=horror (http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/?genre=horror)

Horror section.

Katharina.....
(click to show/hide)
Some ideas could be set up as timed BOSS RUSH MODE.
An easier game? I have already thought about that..........Why not but i'm pretty sure that the game is not that hard with a careful use of special moves , subweapons and item crashes.

"Condemned area" is the hardest level in the game. It's because it is the last level before the final part.

FireSeraphim, your problem is really odd! Have you still got the same problem?

kaonstantine i do not remember the game i have played. I have played "Lords of shadows" . It was featured in the early stage of Lecarde's advance.Great game overall but some parts of it are off topic for a Castlevania.. Some areas of the first and third part remember me most Lord of the Rings than Castlevania.Anyway the Castle Part is a Jewel. Some other stuff like Final Fantasy XIII PS3 or Shin Maou Golvellius on my MSX2 + ( I'm pretty sure that nobody here know that game  ;D ).It costed me about 270$  ;D.

Although I didn't have any trouble with the difficulty, I can see areas that (if slightly altered) would make the game somewhat easier. Not every area in the game would need to be dumbed down: simply altering small parts of a level can make a difference. Just some examples:

The Gardens: The platforming segment where you need to get to the other side of numerous switch activated platforms. If some of the enemies were removed, or an additional switch platform was put near the end, it would make that segment much easier for people who are not good at timing.

The Dungeon: The slowly moving instant kill spike wall is perfectly fine, but the numerous giant boulders (which can send you flying into it if they hit you) can be frustrating to get past. If you make an easier mode, reducing the rate they come out would make this area much less challenging to pass.

The Ghost Town: The section where you have to get to the door after hitting a switch and doing  roundabout platforming could have either reduced or removed bats. The bats spawn ridiculously fast, and considering that you get sent flying if hit while airborne (which is fine), this part can be made easier for less sure footed players.

The Golem Boss: The flying spike ball attack this boss does could have reduced spike balls, making timing a jump less challenging. it would also make the punishment for attempting and failing (which could lead to falling off the platform) much less difficult too avoid.

I hope these suggestions help make the games ease mode if it is to be created.

Making a harder mode seems like a great idea. Do you guys plan to add incentive to doing so?

Maybe making additional modes only unlockable after beating the game on the harder mode, such as a boss rush or a "Time Attack" where you try to complete the levels the fastest you can.

After learning the guy who made those old Haunted Castles made another game, I downloaded this in a heartbeat. A friend and I both played this and we were very impressed. To quote my friend, "Are you sure this isn't an official game?"

Personally, I've got to hand it to you... this is probably the best Castlevania fangame I have played to date. The challenge was just perfect, the atmosphere was astounding, and the music placements were very, very fitting.

I eagerly await any further games you whip up in the future!

Well, I finally managed to beat it (I blame the Condemned Area boss for keeping me stuck for two weeks).

I initially wasn't expecting that for the final boss, but it was quite impressive after a few rounds with it. Though, I personally don't think Toccata into Blood-Soaked Darkness "works" as well for it. That's just me though.

I do have a few bugs to report, too. During Epilogue Stage B, in the tall room with the wall-spears(that shoot out and can be walked on, sorry I don't have a screenshot), Efrain collided with one during a jump and instantly died. I don't know if they're instakill or not, but that isn't the problem. Efrain became invisible and the camera jumped downward. My guess is that he fell because he was airborne and became stuck in one of the other spears, but that's only a guess.

I also found that if Efrain collects two giant hearts (the ones worth twenty) at the same time, he will only gain twenty of them, rather than forty. I noticed this on the final area just before Katherina's first form. I don't know if this applies to all heart forms (since it's pretty rare for two candles to spawn the same heart every time), or if it's just for that one area; but it can and sometimes did affect whether I was able to beat her (in regards to item crashes).

But at the end of the day, though, this is amazing. Outstanding work, Mig, really.

try searching on your appdata directory (click in Start menu>Run...  then a window will appear, type "%appdata%" without quotes) since some programs, games and fangames put their secret archives there.

She's not the only one. I've been trying to find it so I can copy my progress to my laptop, but the only related files are the various config data files that come with it, and those didn't register the save file when I copied them, so I don't know where the saves actually go. I've not found any indexes in my Program Files either under the name, so I'm not sure how Mig planned this.

Well, last night I finally finished this game, and all I have to say is "Congratulations!".
You have set the bar very high for Castlevania games, just like Michmede did years ago with Dracula's Shadow.
I believe we Castlevania are the franchise with the best fan games. Let's be proud of that!  :)

Excellent selection of music, very good remixes, nice new tunes.
Beautiful, beautiful graphics. The ripped sprites blend perfectly with the new ones, and the same goes for backgrounds. Beauty is present throughout the entire game. It captures perfectly the essence and atmosphere of Castlevania.
Very good gameplay, with a great range of movements, upgrades and power ups. Excellent stage design and AI for the enemies and bosses. Animation by sprites is very fluid and the interaction with scenery adds another nice touch. We can find everything we can imagine from Castlevania.
Nice inclusion of some RPG elements and a little exploration and backtracking, and that's always a plus for games.
The challenge is very high. The game gives you plenty of power ups, max ups, weapons and lives, and it have infinite continues. I'd say the difficulty is at par with Rebirth in hard classic mode. I would advise to include a normal mode, and let the current one be the hard mode. Maybe some fans can feel alienated by the overwhelming difficulty, and they'd be skipping a hell of a great game.
And there's some idiomatic corrections that can be made here and there, in an otherwise story that really catched me and helped create a beautiful, haunting, gothic atmosphere, worth of the name Castlevania that carries.
Other than that, it's all praise for this jewel. It's the Castlevania game I've been waiting for since I beat Rebirth back in 2009.
So, in reply to the message that prays "Thanks for your playing" at the end of the game, I just have to say: "No, thank YOU for making this game".
Now I'm looking forward to the sequel  :)

Beautiful, beautiful graphics. The ripped sprites blend perfectly with the new ones, and the same goes for backgrounds.

Hmm, only a hint, but theres no ripped sprites in his game, some are made to be similar, but everything is done from scratch. I know because he said it even before launching a demo. :P

Thinking about that now, I need to restart translating the script to PT-BR, I've forgot damn!!!

Really? Wow, that's even more merit to them!

Are you going to make a portuguese version of the script that's going to be in the game?

That's great! I can make a similar one with spanish, if they want me to.

Try contacting Mig, I dont know if someone is already translating it to spanish. I knew about this because he said that he would be open to translation posts ago.

Hi everybody! :D

I'm sorry for the lack of answers but i was on vacation in August, offline. Thanks Pfil for your review ;)  The English texts are now corrected thanks to MontoyaGraphics ;D.

-I will start the multi language version of the game once i gather the translations:
-German
-Spanish
-Br portuguese

Thanks very much to translators   Lelygax, flaumi mcflaum and Pfil ( i guess?)

-I will make the french translation.

I will also make the possibility to choose the game's difficulty:
"Normal mode" will be the current one.
"Easy"  Less enemies, less damages and more recover items.
"Hard"  more enemies, increased damages and less recover items. Boss battles with enhanced patterns and extra "surprises"..............For the more skilled players ;D

Maybe some other stuff like: "boss rush mode" etc.

I see that some players were looking for the recording file. It is located in :
C://mydocs/username/AppData/MMFapplications    (this directory and the files within are usualy hidden but you can find them by searching "%AppData%" ) the game's file is named "saves".

In order the file to work on another computer it must be placed in the same directory.

As i said it will be really great if i could make a JAPANESE translation. Anyone that can do that will be welcomed ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Thank you Mig for the consideration of the Boss Rush Mode :)
As I said, I really loved fighting the bosses, but unless the boss was early on, I would have to replay the entire game for just one of them.

Also, I like the idea of mixing up the bosses patterns with a hard mode...
The games original difficulty had me swearing like a sailor at 1 AM in the morning the first time I played it, so I am sure I am gonna love playing the hard mode :D

I honestly hope more and more people happen upon this page and play the game. Even in its current state its a great fan game and is much truer to the original games than the more recent God-of-war-esq "Lords of Shadow" games have been.

See? No one really searched for it in the first place that I said you guys to search.

Also Mig, since you have corrected the English script, you can send it to me to use as a base for the translation? This older one is good, but a corrected one would be even better.

I don't know what the name was, but I know precisely one that's Montoya's. Did the name change from the original at all?

But yeah, this is pretty rockin'. *listens*
Title: Re: Castlevania The Lecarde Chronicles May 2013

The tracks I created are:

BASEMENT 4
BEFORE FIGHT C
BOSS C
EFRAIN'S THEME
ENDING
GAME OVER
HUNTING 2
OLD CASTLE 1

And I created a few sound effects as well. For example, every time you died it was me yelling "ahhhh".

So yeah, considering how difficult this game was for some of you, you heard my voice a lot. LOL

The Spanish translation of Pfil is awesome  :D :D :D

It gives to the game a real atmosphere improvement. I don't want too say to much because it's better when the player discover it. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I need about a month to make the next update.

I should have wrote  the default script that way. It was basically a mere pretext for an action game. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Mig, I'm a fan of your work from way back, I've played probably everything you've made. For awhile there I thought maybe you'd dropped off the face of the planet or retired from making games. I'm relieved to see your still doing it.

I share the love others here have for this masterpiece, it really is a work of art from top to bottom. I especially appreciate that the graphics were made at double your usual resolution, the results speak for themselves. Your games have a very arcade-like sensibility and for this one especially I'd go as far as to say that the atmosphere is even boldly cinematic at times. Did I mention I like the characters name and profession? I also thought the original title was fitting, but it's still the same game whatever name is used. Can I tell you that bees really freak me out? I mean, monsters I can handle, OK, but bees or wasps... Yeesh!

Incredible and unique visuals, game-play and play mechanics that make the character feel almost like an acrobat, well thought out level design, difficult but not too difficult, fantastic music... I recognize the ideas used here and you've made them your own, this is truly your game Mig.

For those here who aren't as familiar with his work, Mig has a tradition of putting in undocumented features in his games, Easter-eggs you might call them. I've actually found three already, but have a feeling there may be at least one more. The ones I've found aren't too exciting, but I thought I might mention it just the same. For anyone who might ask, I won't spoil anything so your on your own.

I enthusiastically look forward to your next collaboration.

Wow! I'll say you've been busy too.

The only thing that's concerning to me and maybe a few others depending, is that you have the multiple endings tied to the difficulty. While it might not seem like a big issue there are just some people out there that won't be able to complete a hard game and therefore won't be able to see the best ending. I personally would have the endings tied to some other game mechanic instead. They could be anything too, for instance; you could have history books on the Lecarde Family or even the Belmont family scattered throughout the different stages of the game. These books can tell you bits and pieces of the history of the families. These books could be well hidden and the only way to get the best ending is to acquire them all. Another best ending idea is with regards as to how much time it takes you to finish the game. Like it was in Simon's Quest. But it's your choice in the end what you decide to do.

I think mig has this set up right X. This games original difficulty was totally reasonable compared to other classic CV's. It makes sense to offer an incentive like better endings to players who put in the extra time and effort to beat the game on its harder settings.

I have sent a message to Shiroi Komori for the jap translation i hope it will be ok!  ; 8)

Well!

I already thought about the way that unlocks the different endings. There are lots of ways. I guess that a time based system for the main game will be too much "stress-inducing" for the player.

The books idea is really great!!! I keep it for sure for Castlevania The Lecarde Chronicles II, wich will have more exploration and a map system like in SOTN. ;D
I'm not jocking, i will do that X.
But players will have to be patient because it will be a 2015 or most surely a 2016 release  ;)

My next game is a project with Jeffrey Montoya.

I think that the ending difficulty linked system will be sufficient for most of the players who want nothing but to finish the game.
I think too that a player who have finished the game in Easy will want to see the average ending. Also the ones who will finish the game in normal will for sure want to beat the game in hard mode.  ;)

I forgot to say!!!!!!! The boss rush mode is unlocked once the game is fulfilled in HARD MODE.
There is a trick to unlock it without even finishing the game but i want to keep it secret in the early days of the update.

There are more monsters in Hard mode it has a friendly effect....You will earn more hearts.
Enemies ( including bosses ) have the same HP so it will somehow balance the diificulty.

I am extremely grateful that you put in the multiple difficulties and the Boss Rush. Now I can fight the bosses without spending 8 hours getting to the late game ones.

If you need help with any of the concept Ideas for Castlevania: The Lecarde Chronicles II, I'm sure most of us would be happy to be a sounding board.

The thing that really astonishes me has accomplished something that Konami has forgotten how to do: Create an original and unique experience that adds new ideas, but keeps the things we love intact. Whats more, Mig started and nearly finished it by himself. If he is serious about TLCII, I wish him the best of luck and will be happy to help anyway I can.

Hi!
I think that the game will be downloadable on November 3th or 4th. At worst on 5th I will post again once it's ok.
- Features added
-A new great song by Jeffrey Montoya ( In the boss rush mode )
- Sometimes enemies drop a ROSARIO, even bosses' helpers and bosses'fallen parts. Of course that will not occur every 5 enemies. It's quite rare but you will get for sure some DEUS EX MACHINA situations ;)
- The AIR FLOAT can be performed at anytime while you are airborne ( When you jump and when you drop). Previously it could only be performed while dropping. It's more technical now.

Hi! The Update is ready. It can be downloaded in my page.
Overwrite all the former files or open a new folder.
You can use your former save file and select the language but your saved game will be set up in NORMAL DIFFICULTY.
Here is the  “new features” recap:
--Now the game has 4 languages  ENGLISH SPANISH FRENCH GERMAN
--You can choose your difficulty level: EASY, NORMAL, HARD.
---Multiple ending system
The game has now 3 different endings depending of the difficulty selected
Easy--BAD ENDING
normal--AVERAGE ENDING
HARD--BEST ENDING

-The boss rush mode
-The red bones can now be annihilated with a PURE CROSS or HOLY CROSS attack.
-A new great song by Jeffrey Montoya ( In the boss rush mode )+ the unused song.
- Sometimes enemies drop a ROSARIO, even bosses' helpers and bosses'fallen parts.
- The AIR FLOAT can be performed at anytime while you are airborne ( When you jump and when you drop). Previously it could only be performed while dropping. It's more technical now.
-The puppet Master’s lances could appear an unfair way. I have removed 2 of the 6 lances.
-Some bugs corrected ( The golem dying animation was bugged if you crushed him before he engaged his “few HP” stance. Etc..)
-I have enhanced the whip's collision system. It can now strike things that are within your character's sprite ( good for striking candles while you're right on them ).Also the "slash animation" part ( the one before the whip is spread in front of you ) can now touch. Very useful for some annoying enemies.

I have tried the game in hard difficulty. It’s possible and fair. Nevertheless in this mode the player cannot for sure use the strategy”I’m out of control but it will be OK with some luck” ;).
I need some rest now ;)

Thanks to everybody that was involved in the update.  ;D

I am thoroughly enjoying the update, but there are some bugs of note that I've encountered.

- It seems if you jump too high, you can automatically die.
- On the big sword boss, when it's spinning around, if you use too many Level 2 Cross item crashes on it, the game can crash. Has happened several times in Boss Rush.
- No idea if it's on my end or not, but I noticed the game after the update seems to minimize occasionally, causing me to usually die before I can get the screen maximized.

Other than that, excellent job! The update adds a lot of replayability to the game.

Hi! :)
It seems you have beaten the game in "hard mode" Ralph. Congratulations it was not an Health walk.

-The jump/die effect !!! Interesting i did not notice that. If you remember,  please tell me where this can occur.
-I may have left a corrupted object in the sword boss battle. I will check that.
-I do not see why the game would sometimes minimize. If someone else has experimented this trouble please say it  :)

Has anybody besides me, tried the boss rush out yet on hard? So far the best time I have is 14:34 (I can literally beat the golem as fast as possible, which is before it is done doing its smashing the ground attacks which continue going on even if it is killed). I am using the dagger up until the vandal sword, then I switch to the cross, then switch again to the diamond for the final boss (it's level 2 is AWESOME against the wasp queen). Next I am going to try getting thru by switching to the axe at the first death fight and keeping it (which is harder without the dagger since 1 hit without the daggers level 3 = no more whip power up)

This is a great game, though it needs just a liiiiiiiittle more polishing. There are still issues with getting stuck off the edge of the screen on SEVERAL bosses (mirror master, the giant spider, experiment III, etc.) which is an INSTANT game ender and VERY aggravating. There is no soft reset, jumping too high off screen kills you (which is obscene), and MANY hitboxes need adjustment. He seems to have used the auto-precise method of collision, which just does NOT work. The game also crashes quite a bit on my win xp 32 bit machine, and THAT is a serious aggravation. Heck, there is not even a way to get the powered up version of the axe in boss rush until puppet master, and you can't get the powered up holy water until the last boss which is nuts. He should have put in at least more chances to switch sub weapons.

Hard mode was sadly disappointing; not many significant changes there compared to a game like contra 3 (which had the PERFECT hard mode compared to normal).

Still think its a great game, but Mig you really should have fixed those issues since the last release buddy.

Anyway, anyone else doing good at boss rush on HARD mode?

EDIT: best time is now 13:30 with the axe's lightning crash being heavily used.

The only problem i keep having is random crashes.
Out of nowhere it just gives and error and closes.
I like the game over all, but a lot of times took cheap hits.. and 2 lives each time you start feels like too little.
I start getting used to a levels layout, and what to expect.. and right when i have it figured out and what i need to do or where to go.. i die and have to start all over again and by that point, i have forgotten things i memorized in the level.

Took me a bit to figure out how to get past this one area in the science level.. i came across a spiked pillar coming down from the sealing, and all the while it took me a bit to figure out i had to drop down.. hover a bit, wait for the other platform then dash across.. and often times.. i am STILL messing up that part... i die and lose all my lives and start back over again.

So frustrating.

But like i said, it's over all a great game.

Yeah the crashes are a nightmare at times!

But as for the difficulty, sorry but I think you just need to practice more. This isn't one of those games you can just pick up and rush thru like most of the modern trash put out. You actually have to practice and memorize it a bit. But its really not that hard; on the hardest setting I can easily get to the castle gardens without losing a life.

I think we can all agree that Mig has done a fantastic job polishing this game. He has continued to do updates and add features at the requests of players even after he has moved on to the next project. I think he has gone above and beyond the expectations of a fan game. In fact, I would say that he has transcended the concept of a fan game and released something Konami themselves would have been proud of.

I'm honored to be working with him on our CV reboot called The Rise of Castlevania. We will be unveiling some details about the project soon. :)

First of all, sorry for my bad eng :P

I want to say thanks in a special way MIG and everyone who worked on this wonderful chapter of Castlevania, for me much more than a simple dōjin/doujinshi game.
In this era that has seen our favorite series rolling and rumble, until around europe (I'm Italian but I do not approve Akumajo Dracula ends in Europe, many reasons, but, ok...this is frankly OT)

However, in these days, I was able to play Castlevania: The Lecarde Chronicles, and I was amazed, mesmerized by this game. Everything is just perfect, absolutely Castlevania, so that seems to be made by a Japanese devteam,  (the first boss, the arm-bone OMG). I know I exaggerate, but ask yourself if this is more Akumajo Dracula or Lords of Shadow.
There is a feeling that only makes sense that those who have achieved is very far conceptually from Castlevania Lords of Shadow or played in these years (apart CV: Rebirth)
The music, the remixes are just amazing, show a very refined taste, some are just perfect, others are evocative, unique, not to mention the level design or the gameplay. I'm a player that hardly satisfied, I am very picky....but this is superb. And then, the idea, the "Austria", at the time, the noble german family...
The idea of giving a voice to Lecarde family/clan...
I would like to learn more English to be able to post hours of this great game.

It 'a sign of Fate that just when Konami stopped making Akumajo Dracula (the real Akumajo, I know you understand) their fans realize the best games of the series, or one of the best.

I have played many Castlevania "Dojin" but there is nothing like this.
Of course, I also noticed some of the enemies "ripped" from some previous chapters, but overall, this Akumajo Dracula, is a Akumajo Dracula.

I'm loving it.

That's all.  :)

Thank you Mr.MIG, I have already recommended it to many Akumajo players.

I keep wanting to make my own CV game.. sadly though i'm not a programmer.. i'm more the artist designer type.

I love the game but.. i already played through it in easy mode... and i barely made it.. plus you can't even get to the end in easy mode... which infuriated me.
Hard mode will most likely drive me loco.
If a game stresses someone too much.. it becomes less fun.. and if it's less fun.. it's not worth playing.. because games are meant to be fun.
The sad part is we all have our different skill levels.
I felt punished for playing easy when i was not able to get to the end and it had the player "retreat" after fighting death.

I will say this though.. LOVE the graphics... LOVE the music.. and for the most part i LOVED the ideas behind the different levels.

I just felt like i was taking a lot of cheap shots left and right.. and i have HELL memorizing things.

Wow! The game is awesome! Definitely one of my favorite Castlevania games. Reminds me of my two favorites at once - Simon's Quest and Order of Ecclesia. And I haven't seen better level design in the series.

But I agree with Mikepjr - allowing only hardcore players to see the final level is a bad idea. I would play hard mode like 20 years ago, when I had plenty of time and too little games to play. Now... I have about 30 minutes a day to play video games, and about 100 good games, waiting to be beaten. I'm too lazy to memorize anything, not related to my work. You could add a trick of some kind, which would allow to play last stages in any mode. Like "a+b+up+down+right+right..". :) Would be very oldschool. I can't remember when was the last time I needed to enter a code like that.

Anyway, I'm really glad I had a chance to play this game. Hope to see more.

Hi!
I was aware that the premature end in EASY mode could frustrate some players. The idea is to encourage the player to improve his skills in the Normal mode wich is the same game as Easy but with more damages.

Do not forget the pleasure wich is given by the completion of an hard challenge. ;)

Here is a Youtube video of the BOSS RUSH MODE  in HARD MODE completed in 11.20 min.
The player is my brother Alain.  :D A great player!!!

Do not see this video if you don't know the game and want to play it. It would be a spoiler.

It's not that he doesn't care. Castlevania used to be a very unforgiving game that only skilled players could beat. The difficulty of this game is on par with what Castlevania games used to be known for. To me, this is one of the things I love about Classicvania games.

It makes no sense to reward players who take the easy way through with the same ending as players who put the time in to become skilled. It's a matter of ethics. CTLC is a game with integrity that doesn't give itself away to whoever decides to play it.

But then again, I was on the other side of the fence before Mig did the update. I don't think the option of a easy, medium or hard mode should even be given to the player. I think there should be one mode of difficulty. The idea of taking the challenge out of a game or watering it down, doesn't appeal to me at all, and I would not choose to cater to people who think they deserve to beat the game without putting in the work. The idea of that bothers me in a way that goes even beyond video games (expecting rewards without working for them).

If you can't beat the game, then you simply need to improve your skills.

If you can't beat the game, then you simply need to improve your skills.

The thing about this, though, is that sometimes people just can't become skilled enough to play on the standard difficulty level. My girlfriend in particular really wanted to play Devil May Cry 3, but the Normal difficulty was just too much. She was happy that there was actually an Easy difficulty in the game. People shouldn't be punished for picking the easier difficulty, simply because sometimes they can't get accustomed to the normal difficulty. They should also be able to enjoy the game all the same, even if they aren't as skilled as other people.

And as for difficulties above the Normal difficulty setting, those are there for replay value. When a game doesn't have a harder difficulty level, it can be annoying. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands in particular was piss-poor in terms of difficulty, with the game being REALLY easy. I was mad there was no Hard difficulty to unlock.
Title: Re: Castlevania The Lecarde Chronicles May 2013
Post by: mig3 on December 03, 2013, 05:52:13 AM
I've also played Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands. It was full of good ideas but i also remember the lack of challenge. Apart from that, the main's OST theme and "Final climb" remix were very good  ;D

Well.. I do not make games that punishes. I do make them in a way that rewards the persevering players. :)
I think that overcoming the normal mode is possible once the easy mode is cleared because it's basically the same game. A player who has reached the easy ending already knows most of the traps, monsters positions and other bad things. He only has to imrove a little his skills.

The hard mode is really another thing  :P but in normal mode the game is complete  :)

I have considered lots of players' requests; The current game has got a lot of differences with the one of May 15th 2013. So I do care about players' proposals.

I may update the game but i've got lots of things to make first.

Hi all,

i have been playing the game for a while. It's a nice old school Castlevania game, quite challenging.

Yesterday, i bumped onto this secret screen (see file attached). There is a big "RIP" in the middle and spikes all over.

This occurred while on the last stage, with the hands from the ground emitting laser and a lot of skeletons. I was hit by a skeleton bone and then transferred into this place.

Is there a bonus in this place.? or you cannot escape and you die on the spikes.? How can end up in this position, if not by accident.?

Thanks a lot in advance and... mig3 keep up the good work.

I don't think RIP room has extra hidden secrets, once enter the RIP room there's no other choice but perish current life; laser traps all have a timing that red laser will vanish, rush through before red laser restored (timing is not that tight)

Kinda miss that intense Whip action of LC1 after a long time spent in LC2...

It seems unfair to undust the article so old that is more than a decade, but we got maintenance role from MIG himself and we're working on modern compatibility of the game in order to cover the original version's discontinue after it got smashed by DMCA. LC2's remodel was pretty successful so I myself think at least I should do something in order to make the game (LC1) not being "lostware" forever.

The Issue We Need Additional Helps

- Add in-game GUI and functions to freely edit controller input in the game (like in reworked LC2)
- Make the game's data compatible to 289.3 or higher versions of Clickteam Fusion. This is because the game will break in following places if the game's project file is loaded in 289.3 or higher versions:
   - One background will break in Hunting Ground part 2 sub boss (the hive)
   - At several places contain large swinging spiked balls, their collision will break (Science Hall part 1, part 2, Katharina's quarter part 3 have them)

- Several music clips and sound effect clips are needed to be replaced in order to get around copyright infringement risks (the original game got panned by DMCA takedown request in 2018 so unfortunately the changes to sound clips must be made, regardless how they fit so well into the game). This case needs additional helps from composers/sound effect creators.

Check our (rework) progress and do not hesitate to make feedback:

Thank you! I've been waiting for this  :D

I did try my XBOX ONE controller with this game, however the controls were all over the place. The button layout was limited and scattered, and the D-pad did not work at all. So hearing about revisiting this game with plans to re-work it as well as fix up some of the code is very inviting. Told ya I was patient at waiting  ;)

If it wasn't the UI graphic stuff I could easily port controller code from reworked LC2 which I also had maintenance rights to it. But as investigation going further I feel too uneasy about the controller code structure. In worst cases the vanilla controller code might need to be ditched for the LC2 rework one or if there's even better choice. So it's a serious problem that we need every single drop of help from all over the world.

We did found a dodgy way to freely edit keyboard mapping though! It was Clickteam Fusion's built in mechanic so for keyboard users this version is more playable than original. Some keyboard hotkeys were also tweaked to fit modern user preferences more and avoid griefs.

We need 2 testers to see if the engine upgrade and file compile of Lecarde Chronicles 1 is successful.
If somebody not intended to take too much time and want to cut short to the locations that might have problem, here's save file placed right in the attachment of soft re-release page:

https://github.com/Aceearly1993/lecarde-1 (https://github.com/Aceearly1993/lecarde-1)

bug may happen in science hall part 1, part 2, and Katharina quarter part 3 in original where the game offers spiked ball hazard, if the build version of the engine is problematic their hit detections will be extended to wrong places upon walking to right side of the hazards (UPDATE 231102 bug should be solved which was a mistake in one of spiked ball's animation frames in original, relatively easy to fix. Still needs players to ensure that its indeed ruled out):

UPDATE 0.3.0 (https://github.com/Aceearly1993/lecarde-1/releases/tag/v0.3.0)

Also provided in main lobby are save files, they may want themselves to be placed at: C:/User/(User name) (hidden folder)/Appdata/Roaming/MMFApplications
(extract the save file zip first.)

Progress update: The source solution to spiked ball collision bug had been found and the fix is underway.

Once everything is OK, the game will be 100% compatible, playable, finishable on modern OS. The only things left will be 1) stuff to get around DMCA in order to not get them eaten out the game quick and 2) Try to implement key reassign GUI (or more accurately, port the pre-existed key assign stuff from LC2 rework to LC1).

For 1 we will need every inch of help from every possible person in the world!!!

I shall organize the sound list very soon in the following days...

So as for now, Lecarde Chronicles 1 newly had control remap function! Sad is the game had been targets of DMCA because of some sound samples it uses! Cannot do anything to avert now until I organized a list of affected sounds and any reworked sound samples for the game arrived.

Remember this port of remap function is still in its early shape and did not get throughout tested by now, I will double check if the remapped key layout works for the whole game but I have to cost some time to recover my sanity.

I feel like I missed a lot. Lecarde Chronicles 1 is getting another pass?! It sounds like spike balls are being worked on and remapping controls, maybe even with an XBox controller?

I haven't had much time lately, but I had started a Hard Mode quest on LC1 with the old build several weeks ago. (Which was hard to get when there are so many virus versions out there.) I am progressing well--Hard Mode seems totally doable with the skills I built on Normal--but I have had a glitch where the Xbox controller jams up when walking sometimes. Like, the character just stops moving as if you've let go of the stick. I don't know if you've seen this in the new build or if you're working on d-pad support. Anyway, I'm intrigued. (Maybe Konami will see the light and release a Lecarde Chronicles 2-pack. ;))

And I saw an old comment where you said you missed the whip action of LC1 after LC2. I felt the same way. LC2 was absolutely amazing, but there is something special about LC1, too.

The controls remap is now here, the support to xbox gamepad is now in place and the plugins used by the controller events are reworked, they (normally) should be all OK in the latest build.

At the "Release" pages, Download the largest .zip file which is the game binary contains the game's exe file. The .mfa files are the source codes requires by the game's engine (Clickteam fusion 2.5) to generate the .exe of the game.

If you grab the .zip file successfully, extract it and you will get multiple .exes. The "CTLC Binary.exe" is the base game while the rest are different launchers required if meeting incompatibilities in video side. (This was how MIG himself dealt with the video settings in original game. Although not necessary in my sight, there're a handful of people requested to make the original video option screens come back.)

Is my reply crisp and clear by now?  If you're still confused, we had a discord and we can guide you to get closer to the progress step by step if you're still having troubles.

LC1 & LC2 REWORK (http://"https://discord.gg/yuS7VjPfYM")

Why host files like this is necessary because Katriel wants a safer method to archive our progress without getting hammered by DMCA too quick, please understand.

Why make the games open source is because the reworking of games are still in WIP state with a lot of issues needing to solve by people more skilled with Clickteam fusion than me, and to gather music composers around the world to get rid of DMCA issues with sound effects which is a lot harder without opening the task wide open to the world. Too bad the other people collabed with the rework project are all troubled by either life or other game project and are less active with the lecardes, so all I can do is to proceed some very small maintenances, I cannot do all the major changes I myself unless more people joined the reprogramming task.

You were detailed with your instructions. I'm sure I can figure it out. I've got a lot going on in my own life right now, too, so it might be a little bit before I get to it. Please know I didn't mean to suggest anything was disorganized, it's just that I am ignorant about these things. Always been more in the consoles side of things with gaming. I felt shocked I could get LC1 and LC2 to work to begin with. :P I know this is a labor of love and wish you all the best! While the Lecarde games have only been an experience for me in the last year, they've made me very disappointed how Konami has handled the series over the last two decades. They were that good.

Ooops! A bug newly happened by plugin swaps is found out of nowhere and freaked me out for several days. Fixed.

No real progress, but still managed to find out a vanilla bug and eased it.

Hotfix several reported issues overlooked in previous builds.

A good Update on situations: Belmontoya will exclusively rework the sounds as an attempt to get around DMCA troubles! (After all CotW sound works are done) The need of external resource is gone.

Everyone please spread the message to the world that Lecarde Chronicles 1 and 2 are still receiving community updates at github!  A plenty of people still only know the last original release that contains bugs and result in false impression to the games, which caused the community updates hard to gather public opinions.

As for DMCA argument or other risks, just as the previous posts stated: most of the game's sounds will be replaced in order to get around the troubles (matching the style of sounds in LC2). We can only hope the devil hand didn't stretch that far.

We noticed a weird bug about text in dx11 mode which text size will go incorrectly if set windows display scale to higher than 100%. Will have to leave this case to future roadmaps because my body is not in 100% perfect shape despite the body recover is going good.

A demonstration of how far the community goes on the attempts to rescue the fan game from the abyss.

More goodies will join the fun in the future!

After this point, the rework progress to LC1 will be temporarily frozen until music/sound DMCA problem is solved. There won't be any function-wise update unless new bugs are reported.
