Title: SPOTIFY!! (and those other piddling music services)
Post by: Lumi Kløvstad on February 12, 2017, 08:11:31 PM
So. I use Spotify Premium (https://open.spotify.com/user/chaiteabohemian). It's a phenomenal way to get my head in the game for... well, just about everything.

I playlist everything. Thoughts, feelings, notions, themes. I make playlists like other people take selfies. Music is just one of the biggest and most important ways I process the world and my relative position therein. I've tried Google Play Music -- it was good, but had a less favorable selection to my interests -- and Apple Music, which could have replaced Spotify for me but fell flat on app and playlist organization. And there was also that bit where Apple doubled back at the eleventh hour on their initial promise that paid subscribers would get access to the full iTunes content collection, instead trimming it back to somewhere between a half and two thirds of the content (to encourage people to still pay $0.99 a song, presumably, which is massively overpriced) just before they opened the service. That part burned the hottest. So, I stuck with Spotify, although this is definitely a duel of equals. Each service is just as strong as the others (screw Pandora though. I offered money and they still wouldn't let me pick which songs played and when. Bad form, ya big palooka).

Anyway, I think it would be kind of awesome if we compiled a list of what services we use and who's on what and where, and that could make sharing stuff like playlists even easier. Bonus points as Spotify and Apple both have a semi-social media aspect to their services (and Google just wants you to use Google+, but that's another thread entirely) which could be cool for sharing music with each other in real time.

If anyone's down for that, pop some links in some comments!

Spotify is pretty good, wish I'd had it or something like it when I was a kid. Living in the middle of nowhere and having no money, my musical choices were very limited in those formative years. Glad kids today in similar situations now have youtube and spotify to boraden their musical tastes.

I've kicked around the idea of making lists but never have. Mainly I've wanted to make a werewolf-themed songs list, but to be thorough it'd have be too heavily weighted in favor of one or two bands with werewolf themes, some of which I don't really care for and don't want to listen to/search the lyrics of.

Iced Earth and Sonata Arctica come to mind... But other than them, don't remember any other bands who had songs about werewolves.  ;D

Ever heard of Powerwolf?  :D  They're a lot of fun - think catholic werewolf power metal band where the lead singer Attila Dorn is a classically trained opera singer.  There are quite a few (LoS mainly) Castlevania fan mvs to Powerwolf.

As for what I use for finding and listening to music - youtube.  I discovered Malice Mizer (and Visual Kei) back in the early days of youtube before it became really big.  The Castlevania Dungeon is actually responsible completely for how I first heard of the band, thanks to Gackt's dressing up as Alucard for his solo debut Mizerable being mentioned.  I looked up the band, and the rest is history.  Through MM, I discovered loads of other bands, including my favourite band Versailles (who look quite Castlevania-ish themselves).  If I really like a band I've found and can acquire their stuff, I will then go and buy a CD or buy a proper download.
