You can also promote/demote posts with the little + and - in the post.

I don't remember a popularity score being here when I first logged on. Was this back in the late 90s? I had an account here back then, however I can't recall this.

Yeah back in Forumplanet days you had the ability to rate a topic from 0 to 5 stars.
That's why if you talk to Freak or other retrodungeonite people they'll say something like.
"This is a great topic.
5 stars"
or something.
Rating a post is new, though.

I think you should give it the benefit of doubt... for now. I can see this system emerging into pointless flame wars.
I'm still a bit upset about there not being a dislike button on facebook. There seems to be no way of making it clear for people that their status update is pointless and / or annoying without insulting them or striking an argument.

I gotta confess, I am far less than thrilled about a rep system. I mean, some people will get a bloated opinion of themselves with a high post count (not pointing fingers at anyone here), but a rep system has potential to take that E-peen comparisons to a whole new level.
If it ends up working, more power to you I guess. But until I see that it works over the long term, I'm going to play it the way I've always played this sort of thing and dial down my posts for a while. Because my ego is fragile.

We had it for years, actually. We only lost it for these last three because of the migration away from GameSpy/Forumplanet. But prior to that they were a staple of the forum.

Edit: Apparently it's a Firefox issue, I can rate topics in Opera. Absolutely insane.

Might be dependent on the version you use, I'm still on version 3 as it gets support till next month, then I'll have no choice but to upgrade like everyone else. But it's fine, I can use Opera and all that for that, though even in the past I barely used the rating system. Just wanted to make sure I had it handy if I find a particular topic outstanding.
I can rate your posts just fine, +1 you with no issues at all. Perhaps a cache clearing may be in the cards.
Edit: cleared cookie for this forum, nothing doing. If I need to rate something though, I have Opera. ;)

Try logging out and back on (though everyone else seems to see it just fine).
The Star Rating is at the top of a thread's page, in every page.

I believe it depends on version like Bloodreign said. I'm using the latest version of firefox which is 11.0

I think it might be more of a permissions thing. Bloodreign belongs to a number of membergroups. If one of those has star rating disabled, even if he's part of other groups that have it enabled, it'll be disabled for him as well.
However, all groups he's in should be able to rate topics. Hmmm...

Logging out then back in didn't help, and disabling adblock for the site didn't help (it did for Sega 16 forums for leaving visitor messages on friends account walls).
My thinking is, it's something to do with Firefox, can't even pinpoint what it is.
