I don't care about the bitching so long as it's warranted, which sadly isn't often the case when it comes up.
That's debatable. Most of the time it is warranted. All that "special snowflake" talk is absolutely true, for instance. As is what Clint Eastwood referred to as the "pussy generation"

To be fair, Ive never heard much of this millennial bashing in person. Although there does tend to be a certain stereotype of the Millennial.

I'm fairly conservative, (I came out of college more conservative than I went in). We had some family over some time ago before Christmas. My cousin came over. Gen X I suppose, raised traditional Italian, VERY conservative. Like, Fox News Conservative. We were talking about my first car I had just bought, (2003 Grand Marquis) and I mentioned how I wanted something with a V8, and that I liked it because it was a very "American" feeling car, last of the large, V8, classically styled sedans.

He quips, "I never knew this side of you! I had you figured for a Prius!"

There is a very unfortunate stereotype of the Millennial. And as with all stereotypes, they tend to come from somewhere.

And like all stereotypes, perpetuating them doesn't really do much of anything but be an annoyance, regardless of how much source validity may or may not be present.

And yeah, dude, it happens way more than you might think. We are, it seems, responsible for literally everything wrong with the state of the country--the deficits, the recessions, the market rate drops, the hyperinflation, all of it's the millenials' fault. Because a lot of us are bitchy with smartcars and weird haircuts. Those things definitely totally correlate. Apparently.

Perhaps you've just been lucky to have more surroundings of reasonable conservative/previous gen. groups than I have, I suppose. Gotta a whole slew of "young people suck and ruin everything MAGAMAGAMAGAMAGAMAGA!" folks around here.

Also, consider the definition of warranted less literally and more based on situational context.

Is a millenial being a stereotypical shitlord? Then call them on it. With my fucking blessing.

Is a millenial simply in your presence and bothering you with their mere existence regardless of how they're actually behaving? Then shove it.

Three guesses which one I deal with more.

My folks are Immigrant Boomers from Argentina.  I find that many times, Immigrant Boomers have more in common with the Greatest Gen than with most American Boomers. Probably the upbringing. While in the US, Boomers were rebelling against their parents by growing their hair and doing drugs and protesting on school campuses, in Argentina they were dealing with a military dictatorship that wouldn't allow that sort of thing, thus leading to a more conservative lean on society at large, since communistic ideas were not allowed, while they thrived in the US in hippies.

Ah, that most definitely explains it, then. First-generation immigrants, I believe, get a bit of a pass on such things since their base cultural upbringings and priorities/ideals were and are very different from those in the States.

The general gist of the problem with US Boomer mentality simply chalks up to the rebellious lifestyle not lasting forever. Obviously it doesn't apply to every single Boomer, but I think Carlin said it best:

Quote from: Mr. Conductor
A lot of these cultural crimes I've been complaining about can be blamed on the Baby Boomers, something else I'm getting tired of hearing about...whiny, narcissistic, self-indulgent people with a simple philosophy: "GIMME IT, IT'S MINE!" "GIMME THAT, IT'S MINE!" These people were given everything. Everything was handed to them. And they took it all: sex, drugs, and rock and roll, and they stayed loaded for 20 years and had a free ride. But now they're staring down the barrel of middle-age burnout, and they don't like it. So they've turned self-righteous. They want to make things harder on younger people. They tell 'em, abstain from sex, say no to drugs; as for the rock and roll, they sold that for television commercials a long time ago...so they could buy pasta machines and Stairmasters and soybean futures! They're cold, bloodless people. It's in their slogans, it's in their rhetoric: "No pain, no gain." "Just do it." "Life is short, play hard." "Shit happens, Deal with it." "Get a life." These people went from 'do your own thing' to 'just say No'. They went from 'love is all you need' to 'whoever winds up with the most toys wins'.

The only thing I hate about all this shit, quit making it mandatory to have to have the shit. I don't want it, don't force me to have it. I haven't had a personal doctor in 13 years (my childhood doc is long dead, the other is long retired), and haven't needed one. That's money I could put to my bills every month, but nope, forced to put it on something I'll probably not need for another 10-20 years barring a disaster, and I don't do stupid shit that could make me have to see a doctor.

Simple, you want it, you pay for it, you don't want it, they still force you to pay to have it. Bullshit, I don't need your or anyone's fucking healthcare plan.

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.
