Finally.
So that was something. The Nintendo Mini Direct barely gave it the time of day by comparison to the in-depth announcements they gave everything else, but yeah. Huh. Dark Souls is finally landing Nintendo-side. Kind of stoked. I've never been great at the Dark Souls games, but I always enjoyed the aesthetic and the fandom that surrounds them and being able to practice Gitting Gud on the go will doubtless be very helpful for me. Also, to anybody who has ever loved Castlevania, Dark Souls is in that same broad genre of action game, and thus should be relevant to most of our interests.

Bloodborne is basically "3D Castlevania done right for a change," so yeah, seconded.
I'll be waiting for a Digital Foundry analysis because as much as I'd like to get the game on the Switch, I'm worried there might be performance issues. There shouldn't be with a proper conversion, but we'll see. It's pretty cool having multiple current-gen systems to make that decision with multiplat games.

I already have Dark Souls on PS3 and PC, and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin and Dark Souls 3: Gold Edition on PC. So I'm already as multiplatform as I probably need to be, but I just can't pass up the notion of keeping my skills up to sharpness on the go.
To be fair, they probably could have gotten Dark Souls 1 working on the Vita if they really tried -- it's at about that level of polygons vs textures already, so I think the more powerful souped up Tegra X1 SoC in the Switch should be able to handle it with aplomb -- it's a little more powerful than the CPU/GPU combo in the PS3 so in theory, anything you can get to run on the PS3 should be able to run on the Switch with few problems, and coding for it is infinitely easier because ARM architecture like the Tegra X1 uses is far easier to work with than Cell.

Well, the number one sin committed by the Wii U for most of its lifespan was "anemic to nonexistent third party support" and Nintendo has already shown in the first year that they are out to correct that mistake in a BIG WAY. I'm super excited to see the Switch go all the places that the Wii U should have gone.

Not really
Outside of Cainhurst Castle there's absolutely nothing about it that really screams Castlevania

Though I'd KILL for a Castlevania with that Moldy Low Dark Fantasy Regency/Victorian Gothic Horror aesthetic. Like, seriously, dear god. I would whack a granny in the head with a mallet TONIGHT if it 100% made that happen.

So long as the Soul series difficulty is left out I wouldn't mind see this either.
